Roger Daltrey - 1977 - One of the Boys - Say It Ain't So Joe HQ

Roger Daltrey's cover of the Murray Head classic, featuring the Who's (late) rhythm section - John Entwistle on bass & Keith (at least he's wearing *something*) Moon on drums. Guesting on Guitar is the late, great Jimmy McCullogh (Thunderclap Newman, Wings). Wait.. this whole backup band is "late" - say it ain't so...
The original file was found on an FTP server, it was a very poor quality copy. I cleaned up the video a bit & re-proportioned it, being that it looked squashed. Replaced & re-synced the muddy audio. Not perfect by far, though. Until a cleaner looking video is unearthed, this will have to do for now.
I would like to thank you all for sharing this & leave a nice note. If you use it on your site or page, it would be nice to get a little credit. Took me many hours to make this video watchable & worth listening to while using pre-historic rendering software from the mid 2000's.
For best results, watch in HQ with headphones/earbuds on (or with really good speakers!)

One of the best songs ever!! My brother in-law died April 23rd 2004. He loved The Who and Roger Daltrey. After he died this song was a real comfort to me:) his name was Joe. He's in Heaven now..11 years ago today..

I got hip to this song on a mix tape from brother who was in the Army! He was gone a lot and left this tape behind so it had Vanhalen the doors and this song by Rodger Daultry came on and thought it was the WHO and after some research I found out most of them helped out by playing for this track!!! After loosing my bro to cancer and cov I now see why he put that song on his mix tape!!! The resolve he had and determine smile!!! P.S. I have been playing drums since I was young playing with paper coat hangers on old bar stools listening to various artists and then one one day I was inspired by Keith Moon in a poster I bought and the many tapes and albums and cd's!!!!!!! I still play ! If you get in a rutt remember say it ain't so and the WHO WITH KEITH MOON DRIVING THE BAND!!!!!!!!!!!! THANKS RODGER!!!!!!!!P.S. I do have a set of Premier Drums!!!!!!!!!!!!

Thanks for the time and effort you put in to restoring and sharing this video with us. Saw The Who recently at the RAH for the Teenage Cancer Trust fund raiser. Daltrey had just turned 80 and was in magnificent form. I was also fortunate to see Roger's live solo concert at the Palladium a couple of years ago where he sang this wonderful song with a stellar band supporting him. Roger keeps threatening to quit live performing. If he does, the music world will be a much poorer place.

I never heard this on the radio when it came out, and I was living in DC. I had tons of friends, and not a single person ever mentioned this song. Funny, as it came out when Nixon resigned, and you'd think the stations would have been playing it. Thanks for a fantastic job of remastering it!

Daltrey had the most powerful voice, not in pitch or volume, but it was like a hammer blow to the emotions far and above all those heavy metal and rock vocalists who all followed The Who who were essentially the template for that whole genre of music anyway.

The "bridge" in this song is absolutely fabulous, and this version is as marvellous as Murray Head's one. But, the song was composed by Murray, and the lyrics too. I'm a f...... froggy, and Murray is "un grand ami de la France", he came here, for a lot of shows and played in french movies, too. He is very very popular here and has a lot of fans. Not just Watergate, but the coup in Chile, the murders of 15,000 in a soccer stadium, including Victor Jara, who was their equivalent of Bob Dylan, the assassinations on Embassy Row in Washington, DC in broad daylight in 1976 that killed a friend of mine, the 4 students killed at Kent State and 3 more at Jackson State, and so many more things that Nixon was responsible for. Daltrey seems to inhabit the spirit of ever student protester from the 70s in this song.

I lived this "epic" and incredible period, in France, at the belgian boarder, i was born in 1947. And now, I look at this "brave new world" ...... sorrows
