Les Misérables is a musical adaptation of Victor Hugo’s great humanitarian novel of one man’s determined survival in the face of another’s vengeful persecution.
Set amid the social and political struggles of 19th century France, West End favourite Les Misérables tells the story of former prisoner Jean Valjean, who is pursued for decades by his policeman nemesis, Javert. Their epic cat-and-mouse journey will take them from the French fields to the gritty Parisian sewers, amidst an enthralling story of broken dreams, unrequited love, passion, sacrifice and redemption - a timeless testament to the survival of the human spirit.

Happy birthday, Victor Hugo ! I'll never forget the evening I attended your fabulous performance. It was on 16 February 2016. It was simply brilliant, I found it so hard to fight back my tears for oh so many reasons. By the way, I was not alone, I was with my younger daughter who had booked the seats online as a present for me long before our departure for London. Thank you from the very bottom of my heart !!!

I was fortunate to see this cast in the west end a few weeks ago. It was, by far, the best performance I have ever seen, and expect to see, in my life. The cast was outstanding. It was phenomenal. Flight tickets to the UK would have been worth it if that was all I’d been able to do/see - that good. It’s a good thing I don’t live in London or I’d go broke seeing it repeatedly.

I saw it yesterday at the Queens Theatre with my grandson. This the fourth time I have seen it over a 35 year old span and is the best production i have seen. I know it is done for comic relief . But by the end I get a little tiresome of the reprise of "Master of the House" . We are at times in this great musical into the realms of opera. And of course any of you who love Puccini will hear the similarity to one of the shows finest songs " Bring him Home" to the humming chorus from Madame Butterfly. But of course Puccini has been an "inspiration" to other composers of musicals as well. such as Andrew Lloyd Webber.

This is such a minor thing but it annoys me that Marius doesn't have a tailcoat. It makes the costumes look cartoony and non period to me. I liked when he and Cosette wore black because they're supposed to be in mourning for their parents. Also I don't understand why they rarely wig the students but when they do it's an anachronistic ponytail?

Compared to the 10th anniversary concert in 1995, which I was able to attend, or even 25th anniversary this is not on a par with the old talents. Not at all up to par! It is lacking in musical talent and quality. I greatly dislike the forced and artificial "diversity" prioritization over talent. The woke agenda seems to have taken west end and gosh, I must admit, I wont be spending another penny to support it if the quality is just decent enough.

This is laughably, pathetically racist as well as just ignorant of the show’s history. Les Mis has done racially blind casting for ages - the concerts you cite both featured Lea Salonga as Eponine and later Fantine, and the 25th had Norm Lewis play Javert (who, it might be added, is a man of color in the novel); productions from around the world have cast actors of all backgrounds and ethnicities for as long as the show has been going on. Criticize individual performances on the musical ability and acting all you like, but if you don’t bring up the “woke agenda” when a white actor isn’t up to par (like Nick Jonas’ lacklustre Marius in the 25th), that is simply racism. What strikes me as particularly ironic is that you’ve formed this opinion on a story about oppression and the fight for equality, values which permeated the works of Victor Hugo, a lifelong advocate of human dignity (and who was censured for it - no doubt you’d be calling him part of the “woke agenda” were he around today). It’s curious how you’re such a big fan of a show whose message is clearly lost on you.

@@crisscross6227Not the comment you think it is. Like Les Miserable is all about the separation of wealth so accusing someone of not understanding because they “went to a public school” is really reductive and misses the entire point of the musical and Victor Hugo’s novel.
