So...I have news. And I'm excited. But I'm nervous. And I feel like I'm not gonna fit in...like being the fat friend. But different. Ugh.

I work in LA in a celebrity based environment and for so many years hid out in my house -- and now I feel so at home in my work envirnonment and all those opportunities I used to turn down I am jumping at and dont feel out of place at all. You will fit in and get comfortable -- as you are. And just so happy you are back.

Though I am disabled now, I worked in the medical field previously. I remember choosing the field, partly because I expected to receive less fat shaming/ judgment (which I think was pretty much true). You exude confidence, Sarah! I'm really proud of YOU! By the way, I'm very curious about your products... my brother and his wife and another friend and I have all had WLS in the past 6 months and are planning to start gardening with hydroponics in barrels. Your starters sound very interesting and are sold locally in San Antonio.

Awww, we both designed wedding invitations (I have a BS in Visual Communications and an MA in Graphic Design). "Working with brides is difficult." Truth. So much truth. I did it for a while and then I gave up. I just couldn't handle the seasonal pressure and then the crazy mood swings of the clients. I always worked as a in house designer doing web design in conjunction with my side company, though. So I didn't fall into that portfolio trap that you talked about...but I know exactly what you're talking about. I did find an events niche working with organizations that really appreciate my invitation experience, though. The struggle was real finding a job in the creative field. People are very visual and walking into a job interview at 350lb was very detrimental to finding work. It's a total mental mind fuck. I know for a fact I was turned down for jobs I was qualified for because of my weight in the past and I know that opportunities were opened up to me because I lost weight. I still feel a little weird. I'm very open about my WLS journey and my plastics journey for better or worse but I'm still not the thinnest person around the office. I think if you project the confidence in your work it will show through. You're in a much different place than you were as 400+lb Sarah.

as someone who does both design and marketing I know how big a deal this is! Congratulations!! 🎉🌟🎉 I'm so happy for you to get back into the game. I agree that being judged on your weight in these fields is super common if not intentional. one thing I've always done is feel apart from others in my sales team. a lot of that is self imposed. really take a minute and evaluate if that's self thoughts or real.

Congrats on the promotion🎉 I made the decision to stay home with my guys when they were young too and put the career on the back burner. Then chose to be under employed to keep my schedule and life flexible. My youngest will be a senior next year and wonder what I'll do next since I can focus on next career steps. I get it. My industry (healthcare) is very people-oriented. But I work in an office, by myself for 80% of the day. I do ventured out to see people in my department but I'm just as happy to stay in my office and do my work via phone and email. I wonder why I'm getting the attention now, how did these people see me before?!
