Technically, they're incomplete sentences, but they sound very natural in conversation and in informal writing. Can you tell me what's the difference between "the new is more an addition to the old here" and "the new is another addition to the old here". I usually use 'another' for single countable noun. Why use 'more' in the above?
@Englishwithjennifer5 жыл бұрын
Hi. The meanings of those sentences aren't very clear to me. The first sounds more conversational. We use "more" or "more of" something when we explain or identify something with a degree of uncertainty. For example, I saw an object in the sky last night. It wasn't a plane. It was more of a disc, like some of the UFOs we see in movies.

You always answers my doubts I found a sentence in a newspaper "I know about these kinds situations because i have been a soldier."(from an interview) So i want to know here have been used in what sense because he is not a soldier anymore ,he used to be a soldier. Can we use" have been" in this sense where we used to be something which we are not now Please answer ma'am Please
@Englishwithjennifer5 жыл бұрын
It makes sense in context. Context is everything. If you simply state, "I have been a soldier." or "He has been a soldier." I wouldn't understand the need for the present perfect. To identify someone by profession, we use the simple present. It's a fact: I'm a soldier. He's a soldier. Personally, I think he could be more accurate and say, "I know about these kinds of situations because I've experienced war." It's in his general past experience and he carries the memories and the knowledge with him.
@ritusonii21975 жыл бұрын
JenniferESL so can we use present perfect in this context: I know how to handle kids because i have been a teacher.

Be prepared to explain what you've trained for and what you're looking for. How do you fit into their company? What can you contribute? How do your strengths position you to add value to the company? Don't focus much on weaknesses, but you can describe areas in which you wish to gain experience and skill. Study the salary range before the interview and be prepared to name a range that you feel you're worth. You can also ask, "What is the salary range for this position?" Good luck!
@nawarnawar58225 жыл бұрын
Hi Jennifer, I have some questions hanging over me. Not wanting to waste your time, I'm going to ask you just one question today hopping to help me get over it The question is: I know that there are three types of verbs in English language transitive, intransitive, and both transitive and intransitive vrebs, there is no problem with transitive verbs and intransitive verbs, but the problem is with the verbs that sometimes take an object and sometimes don't. to make my question clear enough I'm going to lay out some examples : The colonists preserved despite......etc We can say: for example something preserved the colonists can't we? so, the colonists were preserved by something. what is the difference ? Another example she suffers a disease or she suffers from a disease. also the verb force for example Sailors forced to change their plan. we were forced to go. There are tons of verbs like these. I know you might find my question easy or let's say silly, but as a non-native English speaker it's definitely not.
@Englishwithjennifer5 жыл бұрын
Use a learner's dictionary to confirm possible usage. Examples: www.learnersdictionary.com/definition/persevere www.learnersdictionary.com/definition/preserve Read the examples. Note the contexts. For example: www.learnersdictionary.com/definition/suffer You suffer FROM a disease, an illness, etc. People in general can suffer. (no object) A group can suffer defeat . (suffer defeat = common collocation) I'll consider making a video on this topic. I know it's a challenging one. :)
@rakfun40455 жыл бұрын
why we use ing in throwing?
@Englishwithjennifer5 жыл бұрын
The present progressive helps us talk about actions happening right now. Do you see the man? Yes, he is throwing a snowball. Why is he throwing a snowball? Because he's playing in the snow. Because he wants to have fun. (THROW is an action. WANT is not an action.)

@Englishwithjennifer5 жыл бұрын
You can add a time period: He has been a wrestler for more than five years. (This is more natural. Otherwise, I'd use the simple present to identify his profession: He's a wrestler.) True in the past, but not now: He used to be a wrestler.

'Because' is just one of many joining words that connect clauses and the reasons, explanations and opinions for a statement. In the list below we see how these words also act as joining words: for, so, and, nor, but, or, yet, while, as, which, that, when, if: however: I am at school, for I need to learn. I am studying, so don't interrupt me. We are practicing our English vocabulary, and my sister is assisting us with this. Advanced English doesn't assist those who are new to English, nor does any advanced teaching of any subject at the early learning stages. Tim had to read the book and summarize it for Monday's lesson, but he found it hard to find the time. All the modules had to be completed, or I would have fell behind the other students. Kate struggled with her spelling, yet she still managed to pass her English exam. i am going to the college on Monday while Kate studies for her exam at home. We finish early on Fridays as the teachers do the marking on this day. I wrote down all that I learnt this week, which turned out to be a total waste of my time. I don't have respect for anyone who writes a numeracy exam that doesn't include questions on percentages and fractions. I will begin the redecorating when I have the time. Can you please slow down if you don't mind? I didn't understand all of the lesson; however, it was still helpful. There are more!

Conjunctions are a big topic. Thank you for the list of examples. Happy to see the coordinating conjunctions in their own group. I'm thinking about a new grammar topic for an advanced lesson. Should be a fun week of research and filming. :)

@@Englishwithjennifer It's great to have a knowledge of conjunctions because it makes our writing look more professional and less choppy. I do understand my list may be a bit overwhelming for those learning at a basic level, but we've all been there. My list should be viewed as a level to strive for. My advice to students is this: Don't let conjunctions get the better of you. You'll grasp how they work with practice, and will be writing like Jennifer and I write before long.

Good effort! 1. Because she WANTS to have A memory OF THE place she visited. 2. Because he is EXERCISING. 3-4. Because they are doing A SHOW. Because he is going to speak LIVE. (Or: speak to a live audience) 5. Because they are having FUN (or: a fun time) and they love BEING together
