It's not about money. Sometimes mb, but not mainly. Art is supposed to point to God, to remind us to rise up out of our animal nature and become more. On the way out of the classics section, we stopped in front of the only 'abstract' artwork and stood among the typical 'artsy' types, gazing with admiration at this mess of colour. In the silence, my daughter's voice rang out true as she asked... "daddy, did the kids do this one?". Still though Banksy is an artist. As a "kid" who would do the same work would also be an artist, age certainly does not define who is an artist. Thousands of laborers need to demand a raise as shoveling dirt is now clearly valuable modern art
@googleprofiel68146 ай бұрын
Yeah, but those laborers don't do it in a way that shows they've clearly never used a shovel before. The utter lack of ability to handle the shovel there is what is the art.

Sweet, my seven year old can make millions with her drawings, just got to find the nearest gallery - We will call it, 'An Innocent View' a journey into the present as seen through the eyes of a child, a multi-piece exhibition in coloured pencil on A4 paper. I'm sure I can figure out some kind of symbolic meaning for each drawing.

The degradation of man....we haven't produced high art since the renaissance... approximately 600 years ago, let it sink in. Now, we tape bananas to walls. We are living through a dark age and dont even realise.
@robertstaples32566 ай бұрын
Ok that's nonsense. Plenty of high quality, timeless paintings, sculptures, and other works have been produced all throughout the 18th, 19th, and early to mid 20th centuries.

@@heroicjourney2508"It only counts if I say it does." Splendid reasoning, ol' chap. 🙄 Let me guess, gender studies major?
@robertstaples32566 ай бұрын
@@heroicjourney2508You do know that even among high quality art, it's appeal is subjective, right? If that is your favorite work of art, or if Renaissance art floats your boat, nothing I ever say will ever be good enough in your mind. Nothing will ever "top" it. Art is varied, even among high quality works. Someone might prefer the likes of The Thinker, or the surrealism of The Persistence of Time, or heck, the sculpture of your own profile picture, which is from 1824. To say that the Renaissance saw the absolute peak of human artistic expression, you'd have to quantify human expression itself, to put it on a grade scale. Gather a thousand artists, or students of art history, in a room, and you'll have a thousand and one grade scales.

Art is more interested in being metaphorical and philosophical than it is concerned with being appreciable as a metaphor or philosophy. That's why modern art sucks, its like writing that the moon has a dark side and a bright side and pretending there's incredible depth to that idea, and when someone points out that while there might be, simply saying so isn't enough. That what all these displays are, saying there is meaning without backing it up with any substance. You want to talk about the "sound of butter" as some sort of environmental message, how about naming every cow within a documentary about the life of a selection of cows, show mother cows walking into the slaughter house after saying goodbye to their young, how about putting a camera on the young crying for its mother. THAT IS FUCKING ART. It hurts, it makes us think, it makes us question ourselves. I'd still eat beef, but at least I'd appreciate that an animal had to die for it. I'd also possibly be in favor of more humane slaughter methods. But slapping pile of butter with a mic is shitty substanceless art.
