A Welshman, an Englishman and a Pakistani man all have children born in a hospital, but they have all gotten mixed up, and no-one knows for sure who's baby is who's. The nurses say "well, how about you go in one at a time, and pick out the baby that you think is yours?" They all agree. The Englishman goes in, holding what is quite clearly the Pakistani baby. The Pakistani father says "Hey, that is quite clearly my baby! Give it here!" The Englishman says "well one of those babies is Welsh - I'm not taking my chances!"

Eh, just centuries of warfare, occupation and cultural assimilation, sometimes forced. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Welsh_Not As a welshman myself though, I don't think anyone cares all that much, we just like taking the piss out of the english.

I heard this joke very often, but i never knew how most people interpred it. My first interpretation was that an irishman never *walks* out of a bar because he's too drunk to walk. But there i have another interpretation that an irishman never walks *out* of a bar, he practically lives there 24/7. So, which do you prefer? Or do you have a different one?

He grow potato whenever he want. He never starve". Second man laughs bitterly and says, "my son better. My son join secret police. He simply TAKE potato whenever he want. Never hungry". Last man guffaws and says, "my son best. My son dead. For him, struggle is over." All men laugh. But all am are sad.

When the train drove out the tunnel Passengers see a big red mark on German man face. The German think: a Pole grabbed young lady and she slapped me instead. Lady thinks: German wanted to grab me, but he grabbed a nun instead and she slapped him. Nun thinks: German grabbed lady and she slapped him. Pole thinks: When we will be in tunnel again, I'm going to slap German again.

My high school friends and I were a very diverse group. My town is in Texas and mostly Hispanic so we had three Hispanic guys, a Native American, a Black guy, a Japanese guy who was born in America but his parents were from Okinawa, and me being the only White guy in the group And we told race jokes all the time! So many supposedly offensive or taboo jokes. My friend Jose once told me “You buddy, we Mexicans use to own Texas. But now we just mow it.” We’d also call my Japanese friend “Hiroshima” and her even out that on the back of his letterman jacket as a nickname We told tons of jokes like that and didn’t care because we never actually meant any of it. We knew we were all just friends having fun and I think if the rest of the World can become like that toward race, to where e can actually joke about it and not care about it any more, then we’ll actually see some long lasting and hopefully permanent racial progress

@Pneumonoultramicroscopicsilicolvocanoconiosis I mean, the only ones coming here are coming for a better life instead of trying to improve their own country. With the west pulling out of many contested regions like the middle east and africa, there really is no point for mass-immigration. There was none in the first place really. Never shall Europe be muslim, never shall Europe belong to non-europeans. They are incompatible with our societies and bring nothing but extra weight to the west.

@Pneumonoultramicroscopicsilicolvocanoconiosis If they are powerless to do anything to improve their home countries, how did anyone's home country ever get improved beyond caveman standards? That's honestly a more racist opinion of their laziness than any far-right winger I've ever heard. The most racist people I've ever met still seem to think the races they don't like would do just fine in their own country. If they leave their homes for greener pastures how can we invest in the poorer areas they typically inhabit? I guess we still could but that wouldn't be very useful to the no-longer-there inhabitants. Also, even if it was successful, don't we usually call that gentrification? I thought that was a bad thing to do?

I well recall the moment when in the changing rooms after games, when I was thirteen, nine dark-skinned boys openly planned to beat up me and the other pale-faced child in the room. The teachers had all left. Fortunately for me, the nine were were not formed into a unit with a single purpose, but were sufficiently diverse in type to stay disunited.

The other side of the coin is that jokes, just like any form of communcation, can be used as propaganda. Like here in Hungary, a lot of people are insanely Anti-semitic, and their favourites: Jewish jokes. They nicely help reinforce their beliefs. "But they are adults and they know it's a joke!" No. They don't. As painful as it is to realise, they make no distinction between oke and reality.

In school, I used to make jokes about my own ethnicity (Asian stereotypes) and go so overboard with them and be so openly racist against myself that people were shocked at the way I portray my heritage. But it opened up conversation and gave me friends I would joke with. I never really felt as uncomfortable with Asian jokes as I did with people shying away from acknowledging my Asianness (which is a word now). One teacher I used to respect once did just that and denied my Asian roots when I brought up the clearly different phenotype. I felt so uncomfortable when she was trying to be nice, telling me I look like everyone else. I was so baffled, I dropped my chopsticks and gave her a roundhouse kick to the chin. My mom had to commit sepukku the next day to restore the family honour. Good thing there are millions of women who looked like her so a replacement was quickly found. We celebrated with roasted Yorkshire Terrier. Honestly, fuck that minority taboo shit. We're all humans that can take jokes. And if we can't, then it's our fucking fault for being dumb. Teach us some manners and humour. Pretending black / red / yellow / gay / disabled / midget / female / religious people are in need of protection from bad words is ignorant and does not allow them any freedom to speak for themselves. tl;dr: Lindybeige is correct.

Imagine you being in a wheelchair or having any other disability, would you want your friends to treat you different and not ever make a joke on your expense or would you want to feel like being one of them. I mean, you would trash talk your perfectly "normal" friend, but if you consider someone in a wheelchair a friend, you should act the same around him. Point being, it's those well intended morons that don't get that that's how life is, people joke around and you will strip handicap people (or anyone) of this status by turning them into a tabu.
@nehcrum
@nehcrum 9 жыл бұрын
Cri354 Yeah, but you are making a mistake that is fairly common nowadays. And that is that you think that everyone is really the same. A quite popular opinion, and one that is quite wrong. There is something called "gelotophobia" or "the fear of being laughed at". As it turns out, this is a trait that differs greatly between cultures, being very uncommon in western society but being very common amongst arabs and muslims (One researcher claiming it might be as high as 1 in 3 amongst that group). These people do not ever want you to make a joke on their expense, for any reason whatsoever, and get mighty angry if you do. Something that greatly clashes with an old western concept of humour and satire being important tools in western democracy for criticizing things.
@MrPobanz
@MrPobanz 9 жыл бұрын
Nehcrum So how should one deal with those people?! Is it the best choice to accept their unacceptance of our behaviour, or should we are the ones unaccepting their unacceptance (i'm feeling like messing with the english language here quite a lot, excuse me if thats the case)? Since i am a huge fan of "live and let live" i think i dont have to mention my opinion about that case.
@nehcrum
@nehcrum 9 жыл бұрын
MrPobanz That is what is called a culture clash. Either one has to give, either we stop making jokes and satire, or they stop being offended when we do. You can't have both at the same time, side by side. Unless you want the current day hypocrisy where it's OK to offend certain groups but not others. Since we are in the west, and our culture has shown itself to be superior when it comes to creating good living conditions (evidenced by people from outside the west wanting so desperately to move here) then we should fight for those western culture values. If we replace western values with third world ones, then society will soon also look like the third world. Many of our values are based on freedoms, that are essential and necessary in order to create a free society where justice is equal for all. If we give up those freedoms, then we will soon also give up our society and replace it with despotism and dictators. Satire has been an important weapon with which to criticize those who hold power, and when that is taken away, soon other things will follow.
@nehcrum
@nehcrum 9 жыл бұрын
MrPobanz For a shorter answer on how we will deal with them? These things cannot coexist, so we have the choice between fighting for our values or giving them up. Because it's quite clear that they are fighting for their values, and are unwilling to give them up.
@MrPobanz
@MrPobanz 9 жыл бұрын
Nehcrum With "live and let live" i meant: i am okay with people "feeling offended" about something (seems like thats "the thing" these days, people just like it) as long as they dont think they have to hurt/kill others because they feel offended. People tell jokes and others dont like them, some should just grow up and think about some "mean jokes" themselfes instead of crying a river or worse.

I am Polish, and there probably are more jokes about Poles than any other Europeans. The question is who gives a damn? Have we as a "race" given people reason to make those jokes? Honestly probably yes. What is relevant: A. No Joke can hurt you, for words can't hurt you! Words, no matter how offensive, are just words. The person who offended your, is the man in the mirror. As long as nobody is using any force the best thing that you can do is either lough yourself (and thereby disarm any real offense) or walk away (if the group isn't to your likening). Either way the best way to ensure you are an outsider is to be offended by it. B. You are in another country, it is your duty to become member of that society, not other way around. If you loved your country so much, don't leave it. Whenever you came to someone else society (except of course as a Slave) you should have at least enough respect to shut up. For instance, I hate how most Americans eat. I swear vast majority can't seem to close their freaking mouths. So what do I do? Not go to Lunches/Dinners typically. Either show up later or politely refuse to go. I won't, however, go on a campaign to yell how offended I am! C. If there is perception that you are from some Stupid/Drunken, whatever group Do your share and ensure you aren't Stupid/Drunken or whatever. As a final note. I despise the phrase "This offends me"! You are offended? GREAT! that means you now live in a country with the right of free speech. Be happy you live in a country where that is possible. Just grow up, for Pete's sake!

In America, if there is a TV commercial that shows someone doing something stupid or being ignorant, it is almost always a white middle-aged man. Let's say the commercial is for car insurance, and some dummy is overpaying. Then his neighbor is shown leaving for a vacation, and the dummy asks how he can afford such a vacation. The smart neighbor says he switched to a better insurance and saved $2000 and drives off, while the dummy is left sitting there in one of those little plastic pools while the sprinkler sputters next to him. In that example, the smart neighbor can be of any race or sex or age, but the dummy in the pool will almost always be a middle-aged white dude.

Excellent point. We will truly have reached a race-blind point when the idiot is black and nobody notices or complains. I can't see that happening for a very long time.

***** Of course it will as long as it gives other races something to hang onto. If you walk around with a great big step on your head you can expect that people will be happy to use it. A small minority of white people a long time ago did other people down. That is over now. It wasn't you, it probably wasn't any of your ancestors either, I know it wasn't mine. I am no more guilty for Jim Crow, apartheid or slavery than I am of eating the forbidden fruit in the Garden of Eden. I have an excellent alibi: I wasn't even born then and my ancestors were bloody miles away and too busy working.

***** Only if you allow it to haunt you. Those who would dispossess us want us to feel guilty and shameful and apologetic for something we didn't do so we won't defend what we have and what we are.

***** To be honest, in history everyone caused harm upon other races and religions (if they had the power to); the mongols surpressed russ, indian..., the arabs forced there religion in most of north-afrika and treat them live slaves (even today in some parts of sudan), atztec etc hunted underdeveloped tribes, the black slaves were mostly captured by local kings/leaders, china annexed Tibet...

***** And? European nations which lacked an empire lacked the opportunities to have one, they did not lack the ruthlessness or choose not to do so out of respect for the right to self determination of heathen savages. If your ancestors shared a land with also-rans that is nothing to be proud of.

Thank you for this video. I felt this for a very long time. In my case, it most often came up when people objected with me treating women equally - in sports, in university, in computer science. It always boiled down to: "Don't you know that that's not how women should be treated?" And I thought - what do you mean? Equally? Letting this individual make their own choices and be part of this like everybody else? But you put better words to it then I could. Erecting taboos on behalf of others means separating them from the rest of society and exerting control over them.

I make jokes about all races and religions equally. It doesn't make me a racist, it just means that at best I'm an asshole.

Always baffled me why I can make fun of Finn's for being dour drunks, Scotts for being the opposite kind of drunks, the French for being surrendering, frog leg eating cowards who smell like onions, the Welsh for that thing they do with sheep, hell - just about anyone in Europe seems fair game - but the second it comes to someone with a different skin colour it's suddenly racist as if them having darker skin makes them a different species. Are Scotts just not a race or what? I've had my suspicions.

An Irishman an Englishman and a Scotsman are on the run from the police, the Englishman hides in a toolshed, the Scotsman hides in a doghouse and the Irishman hides in a sack of potatoes. When the policeman knocks on the shed, the Englishman says "Clank", when the policeman knocks on the doghouse the Scotsman barks. When the policeman kicks the sack of potatoes the Irishman says "POTATO".
