Years ago I asked my friends to try any position they liked for an under snare mic. The studio had no glass window so I couldn't see what they were doing. I suddenly shouted ": STOP!" and told them not to move the position until I came into there live room. When I walked in I was convinced they were pranking me.. been doing it ever since and that was 20 years ago. Only drawback is doing it live is the number of people who move it thinking it's a mistake!. Pro Tip.. really deep snares often don't sound good with this technique.

That's a great way to get drum sounds or, really, sounds on anything.

Would you still try it if you only had a sm57? Sounds smooth

I think so. I'm kind of tempted to try swapping to a 57 to see if it reduces the hi-hat bleed.
