I think this one needed the visual element of all of the cards so we could agree/disagree on the descriptions, sometimes a mystery element is needed but when the game lacks a board I think the audience needs something to watch. I was much more interested in Laurie's take because of the visual

I'm generally in agreement as KZbin is more about the entertainment of it all, but a small part of me enjoyed trying to put together the facts based on the descriptions of the rest of the team. Then again I'd play it with my international friends who all speak good English but as a second language and watch the chaos unfold :D

I had a hard time following the game, and a big dry erase/conspiracy yard board visual on the table i think would help both the players organize their thoughts and help the audiance follow. You'd have to make rules about not just drawing the pictures on the cards, but i think it's solvable.

That could defeat the purpose of the "reveal" card mechanic, for example Sully could have drawn what the stencil looks like in part 3 or Tilly drawn the map in part 2

A few days later, I realize what the stencils were actually for! They don't make fake ID cards. They add lines to the names on *real* ID cards. Lines across the top and bottom turn K into B. One line across the top turns H into A. etc.

If I remember from playing the game, I don't believe you are supposed to read the four questions until after you read the overarching question and work through the details of your cards, as the four questions more or less guide you as to the details worthy of your attention and how to progress through the logic of answering the final question.

Also, in case anybody sees this comment and doesn't realize upon playing, you are officially allowed to attempt to draw things you see! They could have reproduced the ID forging marks in case three, for example, which could have helped inspire a more accurate understanding of the situation.

I'm really not sure what to think about games like those, they seem relatively popular from the amount of different 'oneshots' like those lining up the shelves at the boardgame stores, but it always felt weird to pay a hefty price for something I could pretty much play only once, because you can't even replay it with different people, really, I don't think. Does anyone have experience with them? Would a single session like that really be fun enough?

Really depends on the game, but also what your game group / the people you know are like. I've found that, especially for games like this where there are a couple scenarios included, if you have friends or family that like to loan games around to each other, you can get a lot more mileage out of this kind of game. You play scenario 1 with a group, one of them borrows it and plays scenario 2 with a different group and you still get to play scenario 2 unspoiled, repeat for however many people in your group might have another group they'd want to play the game with AND however many scenarios there are. Works especially well if it's _the group_ buying the game rather than one individual person. Everyone's paying a little less and more people are getting enjoyment out if it. (Also applies if you'd ever consider reselling or donating the game after you've played through it) Of course, if your group isn't the kind to do things like that, then it's much more about whether you think the single or few experience(s) is/are worth the 50$ or whatever it costs. I very much understand the trepidation to pay top dollar for a game with little to no replayability. You know you best, but since you seem unconvinced of how "worth it" they are, my reccomendation would be that, unless the game seems *absolutely amazing* to you, it's probably best to steer clear of "limited number of plays" games, at least if they're on the pricey side.

Investigative-style entertainment media is always much more difficult to craft into a "replayable" experience; not just board games but other media as well, things like whodunnit movies are most entertaining on the first watch because knowledge of the content sort of spoils the curated experience of the whole thing (even though movies are better about reapproachability for a curated experience in general since there's always little details you miss that you pick up on a 2nd or 3rd viewing). There are certainly ways to create replayable investigative entertainment, such as with randomized or building-block elements but they aren't as engaging as a one-shot experience. With all that said, the value of a one-shot entertainment media needs to ensure that the satisfaction you get from piecing together all the clues needs to greatly overshadow the satisfaction of playing a more traditional replayable media, and honestly I'm not sure if this one hits that mark (of course without knowing what the other scenarios contain) since the only objective in this game is to answer a few questions on a card. Seems a bit anti-climactic. The objective needs to be more engaging in entirety, like Decorum requiring players to deduce what the other players' hidden objectives are with limited information sharing.
