I actually did the same and it ended up working out really well for me on most dates. I put up mostly mid, unphotoshopped pictures of myself, and my dates often commented "I hope this isn't weird, but you look better than your photos" lol. My now husband didn't say it out loud until later in our relationship, but even he admitted he was pleasantly surprised I looked better than my photos. 😂

This happened to my friend! My friend was cheated on by their bf. The other girl's best friend made a fake account and followed my friend, me and a bunch of other friends. This happened after they had suspicions that WE were stalking them. She had made up a whole ass identity and I even had a friendly chat with her. Ultimately, she texted my friend saying "I took the info I needed" and went on to insult my friend's looks and wished them to rot. So a catfishing/stalking situation

This is actually becoming quite the issue now. I remember a few years ago in Germany a girl named Rebecca Reusch went missing and on her missing poster there was a Snapchat picture with such a heavy filter on it, she was absolutely unrecognizable. It took them like a week to release a realistic picture of her. By then, millions of people had been looking for someone with a completely different face. To this day, I think that was one of the worst mistakes to be made in the case. She still has not been found to this day.

I remember the Katy Perry episode and if i recall correctly the craziest thing about it was that he never did realize he was being catfished, he wanted to be on the show for an opportunity to prove it was real and set up a meeting with her or something. So they obviously ended up finding the person catfishing him and even after talking to this girl he went home and emailed the catfish again like "you will not believe what just happened" because he still believed he was talking to the real Katy. rollercoaster of an episode

Yeah, I can definitely understand that fear. The thing is that it sounds like his PERSONALITY is completely genuine, they met over shared interests, they like talking. It’s literally only his appearance that’s a lie. She’s in love with someone who’s emotionally real, just not physically. I think if he just tells her he sent her fake pictures because he hates his appearance, things might be able to work out. Especially, if the pics were sent early. But maybe I’m just optimistic.

Story time ladies 🌚 I had an online relationship with someone I was talking to online for a year who I was convinced I was in love with and going to marry. He was way older than me and always seemed purposeful yet peculiar with how carefully he presented to me. I pushed aside the small voice in the back of my head that I wasn’t wildly attracted to him but was convinced our emotional bond was too strong to give up and that I just needed to stop being so superficial. I begged this man to come visit me and he always said no because he would be bitter for the rest of his life if it didn’t go well as he already had two negative experiences flying to see a lover (massive red flag). But I managed to change his mind and so for my birthday, he flew to my state finally to stay for a WEEK. When I met him, I was so taken off guard at how many differences I could see when we met compared to how he was presenting to me online. First irl red flag was hugging him for the first time and he smelled so bad :( I ignored it and continued the visit but the connection immediately felt off as the longer I spent with him, the clearer it became that he not only not my type visually but was also a delusional misogynist. I pushed that out of my head convinced the intimacy would change my mind, so after talking about it for so long, we tried to sleep together and it was easily the worst sex I ever had and I realized he embellished hard about specific things (and crazy edited his photos) too. I was mortified when I realized he wasn’t the man I thought he was in any way, shape or fashion and felt like the most horrible person alive when I broke up with him that night saying “it didn’t feel right” and we both went back and forth all night before I told him he had to leave early on day 3. The next day on my birthday he got a new plane ticket and went home and I cried all day long lol.

Catfishining is not just mean and deceitful to the other person but also to yourself. The amount of self hatred. And even if i edit the part of myself I don't like, okay other people will see me that way but how will I look at myself in the mirror and how will I accept myself right? Therefore I have always tried to accept my features even the ones that are not necessarily attractive for me like my flat nose or my acne or my rolls and all of my 90 kg weight. And eventually i grew to love myself the way I am. And i find myself pretty and beautiful and for me at this point that's what matters

I am a very ugly 24 yo female, I have curly hair but I’m white and I have a lopsided face. I met a guy called Liam online about two years ago and we got along so well he was lovely! I went to Bristol to meet him and when I got there he was very stand off ish and weird with me. I asked him if there was an issue and he said I don’t look like my photos and that my face is ugly and lopsided, he complained about my pale white skin and said he was hoping I’d be mixed race. I called my friend crying and he said to calm down and to have a drink then leave as he said the guy was a shallow bully. After 2 drinks Liam said “you are sort of pretty from certain angles” he then harassed me asking me to have relations with him to which I was a bit confused and insulted, I then went home. About a year later I saw his profile again and I finally had to let it all out, I asked him why he was so vile to me and the things he said were truly disgusting and harrowing. Despite him sexually harassing me after the 2 drinks he really did find me repulsive, he told me to off myself and said he hated ugly white girls. I have never had an experience like this before or after it occurred. Really unbelievablely painful and damaging for me. I wish beautiful people could just treat ugly people like we’re human too. Our daily encounters are almost always negative, it wears you down. I hardly leave my house now and when I do I have to cover my face to avoid abuse. On buses people move their children away like you’re diseased, people who use TikTok film you and laugh in your face, bus drivers and workers are unkind to you because of the connection they’ve made in their mind that because I’m ugly I must be evil or disgusting. It’s so tiring, it’s not easy mode that’s for sure.

As someone who was catfished, it is one of the worst feelings in the world. In my case, my irl friends in high school created fake profiles on twitter and followed my fanaccount I had on there. Seeing as I was a depressed teenager who was being left out of everything to due with her friends, i was quick to accept them as my friends without hesitation because I wanted friendship and I felt like I had no one to talk to. This all happened during summer break between my third and fourth year in high school. One week into the new school year, someone asked me if I was interested in this one girl still. Which was strange, because I had never talked about me liking girls at school before. Went down the chain of 'who told you this' and then figured it out. They confessed to it a week later, but to this day i've never received an apology because they 'did nothing wrong in the eyes of the law'. I try my best to boycott filters. They're an easy fix to feel confident, but in the long run, not only to they hurt your self-esteem so bad, it also hurts other people's self esteem when you show only enhanced perfect versions online It's tough but I'd like to do my part to still be someone attractive and interesting on social media, even with pores and zits etc!

I got catfished twice. I am already demisexual so appearance is so unimportant to me. I had partners who looked like the beautystandards and some they absolutely didnt. But these two didnt edited the pictures. One was 33 and posted Pics from him where he was 23/24. He was a skinny tall guy with full blond hair in this picture. When we met he was still tall but he weighted 150kg or more, was balding and he didnt knew what hygiene is. The second Guy had a picture in his profile that I dont know until today, if it was an old version of him or not even him. He was muscular, with long hair in a bun, wood cutting guy and he said he was 1,85m tall. But when we met he was as tall es me 1,58m, weighted 120kg, not muscular at all, just a big belly, bald and full of really big and heavy ''Plates'' of skin. He had an heavy psoriasis illness he didnt wanted to care for. Plus he lied to me about having cancer and at the end he had two kids I didnt knew existed. I never got catfished by a woman. It where two 33 year old guys who where lying and making up a whole different persona of themself online. And not even that, they lied about their life too, even when I decided to give them a chance and were in a relationship with them. I am conventionally attractive so never wanted to catfish someone. But there where times I was not attractive, so I know how it is to feel ugly and feel that society treets you different because of that. But everyone deserve TRUE and HONEST love. And you cant give someone a chance to give you what you deserve, when you are lying. I persolanny will never give a catfisher a chance again. From my own experience, when they are lying about their appearance, they will lie about other things too, that are actually important (for me).
