Today, we're gonna talk about Little Miss Perfect | aka the "13 Reasons Why" TikTok Taylor Louderman song. And yes, I know that sentence sounds like it was Mad Lib-ed together.

hey theatre friends! I've been seeing your requests to talk about "Little Miss Perfect" so that's what we're finally doing today! In this mini deep dive/ramble, we're gonna break down why it got so popular, a little bit of the controversy surrounding it (and some brief thoughts on 13 Reasons Why), and why I think we need more songs like it!!!
So if you don't know, "Little Miss Perfect" is a song by Joriah Kwamé that came to popularity through the Write Outloud competition. It was performed by the competition's co-founder, Taylor Louderman! Taylor is, of course, an actress most well known for originating the role of Regina George in " #MeanGirls the Musical" on #Broadway . The song was added to "Tapes: A Song Cycle", a charity project inspired by the controversial young adult novel and subsequent Netflix series, "13 Reasons Why".

Like, sometimes tik tok really boosts songs in a positive way, and people make some great content with them. But other times, we get weird straight girls not knowing what the song is about and grossly misusing it.

OK MISS STEELE LISTEN UP!!!!! The Owl House is Disney’s first show where the main character is part of the lgbtq+ community. Luz Noceda is Bisexual!!!!! Her rival and then admirer is Amity Blight, and she is 100% adorable Lesbian. The song is perfect for her because she was always being forced to be perfect, while all she wants is to be with the girl that she loves. This is honestly SUCH a good show (btw I’m not a fan of newer Disney, so that says something!) I can proudly say that this show could be the next Gravity Falls. I MIGHT ADD this song also matches a MLM couple in the netflix show The Dragon Prince! Their names are Runaan and Ethari, and they are honestly revolutionary in terms of MLM representation in cartoons. Both are masculine guys that aren’t afraid of being outwardly affectionate, and have a lot of depth and are practically essential to the story line. Runaan is the leader of the Moonshadow Elf assassins, and because of that he’s discouraged from showing practically any emotion, and is very stiff and uptight. Ethari is a craftsman, he’s very laid-back and in touch with his feelings, unlike his husband. we don’t know their canon love story yet (but we are getting it in season 4 WHICH CANNOT COME SOONER) but most people theorize/headcanon that runaan and ethari has a very similar love story to Amity and Luz (with runaan being the canon dork/gay disaster and ethari playing oblivious). plus... most people call this one the next ATLA... 👀 GIVE IT A WATCH IM BEGGING YOU

When u said it was related to 13 reasons why my heart got sad. I read the book for a class back when it was said Selena Gomez was going to be Hannah and it was going to be a movie. I really loved the book. I listened to Hannah’s poem on repeat for a month because I discovered the playlist of parts being read aloud. I am so disgusted with how the show was handled on its sensitive parts that I refuse to give it the light of day. I’m glad someone is trying to revive the amazing and powerful story through song. I can’t wait to see what the musical will be like!

I really did not like the show 13 reasons why, I do however love the song. When I heard it I thought it was a cool and relatable song and at the time I didn’t really notice the connection to 13 reasons why. After I realized where the inspiration came from my feelings didn’t change mostly because my main problems with the show were not mentioned in the song. For me it’s just a don’t punish the kid for what their parents did type of situation.

i found this song a little before it got big and right away i loved it and connected to it. the only thing that makes me a lil upset is SOME people will hate on theater and theater kids and then turn around and do a tiktok to this song! i’m not trying to gatekeep it but i just wish people would stop hating on theater kids for being passionate about something!

I saw this video in my recommended and she asked for more info on TOH so let's go- "The Owl House" is an animated series on Disney Channel, basically following a socially awkward teen named Luz on her journey to become a witch. The song "Little Miss Perfect" got so popular with The Owl House because this song relates so much to Amity, a recurring character on the show. Amity was at first an antagonist, but later on becomes one of Luz's friends and is seen to be showing her soft side. Now that you know a bit about the show, I'll explain why it relates SO MUCH to Amity herself: 1. Throughout the beginning of the series, we see Amity literally being "Little Miss Perfect". In episode 3, "I Was a Teenage Abomination", we find out that she is the top student in her class, and that she get's straight a's. Throughout the song, the person singing constantly says "straight a's". Adding to number one, we see in episode 7 "Lost in Language", we see that Amity doesn't want to be mean. When Luz finds her diary, there is a page revealed to us where Amity says, "I don't want to come off as rude, I just..can't show weakness". When she "doesn't show weakness", she can appear rude, or more so, blunt and straight forward. 2. In episode 15, "Understanding Willow", we find out that Amity stopped being friends with Willow due to the fact that Willow was behind, and a late starter with her magic abilities. However, she was forced to stop being friends with her because of this reason due to her parents. Her parents set such a high expectation of her, she believes she has to be "Little Miss Perfect" all the time. 3. In episode 16 "Enchanting Grom Fight", we find out that Amity's deepest fear was being rejected by her crush. Later in the episode, we find out that all along, her crush was none-other than the socially awkward human Luz. This, relates to the LGBTQ+ shown in the song, as the girl singing talks about how she has a crush on the girl. However, because Luz is a human, I can see a possibility where Amity's parents are unaccepting. This could relate to the voice, as Amity's parents could be that voice. I also see a possibility where Amity herself is the voice or face, as said in the lyrics, that tells her it's not worth it. Near the end of the episode, we see Amity looking kind of sad and unsure about something as she sits in her window. 4. Amity's straight hair is the only thing straight about her, am I right? There are MANY other reasons why this song could and does relate to Amity and the TOH fandom in general, but these are the big ones. Thank you for reading, and I hope this helped you!

How did I not know this song got popular? I’ve loved this song for a while and I’m on tiktok, how did I not hear about this earlier?! I’m so happy more people love this song as much as I do, and I’m glad the young person who wrote it is getting more recognition. I first learned about the song because I had heard about the contest, unfortunately after it had already happened or else I would’ve entered. And immediately fell in love with it. I’m so happy for the writer and that they’re working on a musical!!! The contest idea was so amazing and I’m happy for all the winners and I hope their songs blow up like Little Miss Perfect did.

At my school I have been called little miss perfect for over a year (I go to a really small school). There’s so much pressure to get things right and I get so stressed out when I screw up because my classmates will call me out on it. I recently discovered I was bisexual. Listening to this song I just heard myself and it means a lot to me. This song is one of the first ones I have heard that I can really see myself in.
