Hey, just thought of a good point. I don't think it was "plot" necessarily that prevented Maki from going for Sukuna's head. Maki most likely knew that if she went for the head Sukuna wouldn't have allowed her to land the strike, but he would, at least subconciously knowing that he can survive it, care less and therefore allow an attack to slip past his awareness/guard and go for his heart. Since Maki isn't stupid, she likely thought about this, and just figured that it was the closest thing she could land to a fatal blow, and even if just a little, having him spend some cursed energy and awareness on pumping his blood would be another slight chip at defeating him.

(idk about the Sala tree part, that might also be Japanese mythos as well, because Siddhartha wasn't born from a Sala Flower, he was born from his mother who was grasping the branch of a Sala Tree, and Siddhartha would later pass away between a pair of Sala Trees.) The Pali Canon quote is thus, “I am the highest in this world; I am foremost in this world; I am the best in this world; this is the last birth; there is no further becoming here.” (ofc it can be slightly different with other translations, but it still generally reads the same).

They went for accuracy, instead of damage: I think sukuna could still get some periferal view if a sword cut came from the sides, specially with the extra eyes. But a straight stroke is the hardest to detect coming directly from the back. As for why not the neck, why risk he dodging at the last second, center body of mass. Maybe they just aren't swinging for the fences, with karefulkabe on the planing.

@fernandotrevinocastro1018 Nah I don’t buy it. A far weaker version of Sukuna survived with no heart at all. And they’d KNOW that. There’s going for accuracy and careful damage over maximum damage. But stabbing his heart is literally pointless and they’d know this. Maybe he could have detected her going for a decapitation, but it still would have been the better call even if it was a bit Riskier. Hell a clean stab through the back of the head would have been just as sneaky and far more damaging. Or cleaving straight down on top of his head. Just as long as she’s not going anywhere near the side of his field of vision. I also don’t buy the idea that Maybe Maki was still trying to save Megumi as OP mentioned, as Yuji was stressing that they NEEDED to reach Megumi and end everything in Yuta’s domain as it was there only shot. He straight more or less says it’s now or never. So nah, I’d say 100% Yuta and Yuji were on the saving Megumi mission and Maki was the emergency “end it all” back up plan in case they failed.

My money is still on a yuji power up (massive power up). I've been thinking about it, yuji's abilities are about as much mystery as sukuna's. He has blood manipulation after consuming the death paintings so using that logic shouldn't he have sukuna's abilities to? WTF is that soul swapping panel plus what technique did he apply on his hands, it straight up looks like a monsters arm. My point is there's still a lot of questions about yuji's abilities to be answered so I'm not ruling out a massive power up. As for gojo, I don't know, perhaps a gojo yuji team up.

I’m wondering if Yuji has some sort of muscle memory to be able to perform feats his body has done before? P.S. I am not a Botanist nor do i deeply practice Buddhism myself, but this may be my guess on the flower as someone who enjoys touching grass and research JJK's mythology and religious symbolism behind everyone. The flower on volume 26 may represent two flowers, either being the Lotus Flower or the Tsubaki, Japanese Camellia flower. The Lotus flower symbolizes Buddha, which ties connection to Gojo as, well... he proclaims himself as Buddha and quoted a well known Buddhist quote of "Throughout Heaven and Earth, I alone am the honored one." The Tsubaki or JP Camellia flower in Japan symbolizes ""noble death among Japanese warriors and samurai,'' as well as self reflection, inner strength, perseverence, love, and gratitude towards friends and family. Those meanings can tie into Gojo believing in his students and their influencial growth in the fight against Sukuna and his talk with Geto in the airport; his self reflection and decision to go North. They're also known to bloom during December to March, tying to Gojo's birthday being December 7th. A theory here, but it may also hint to Gojo coming back because they're known to also survive the harshest conditions of winter. Edit: Looking at it now, its most likely the Tsubaki as it is snowing in the volume cover. It also wouldn't make sense for it to be Lotus' as they grow on lilies so unless Gojo is floating above a pond full of Lotus' then its more than likely the Tsubaki.

artists tend to use imagery with multiple meanings so i doubt its unintentional. another example is that the snow is in a specific blue. one could look at them not just as a clear heaven with snowflakes but also being underwater with bubbles. even if gege didnt do it intetionally one has to admit that gojo is a constant dichotomy of things.

It's camellias, odd the are in the same frame as Gojo due to his status, they're are not normally gifted to anyone while they are ill or injured because, as they wilt, the flowers “behead” themselves. For someone who is healing, this does not send a positive message. A late-winter or early spring flower, the camellia is also considered to be an auspicious symbol during the Lunar New Year and is often incorporated into the festivities.

If Sukuna wins that would just... suck, not only because we always want the good guys to win but also because it would mean that all the chapters past Gojo's death are essentially useless, like I am reading them to see how they can manage to turn it around, not for them to just get destroyed. Sukuna is just not as cool as Gojo (especially heian era/Megumi-Sukuna, Yuji-Sukuna is my goat ong fr fr) so watching him destroy sorcerers just how Gojo destroyed the disaster curses for example is not as satisfying.

He clearly wasnt referring to Yuuji’s ability to attack the soul directly (cuz, you know, otherwise 1. He wouldn’t have referred as him being the one undergoing special training and 2. Maki couldn't go for the head, her situation was even worse than Sukuna's, she wasn't blocked by the domain but she still couldn't see through it, and she needed to attack as fast as possible or she'd miss her chance. Her senses might've told her where Sukuna's body was, but probably not the specifics of what his head/arms/legs/torso were. Or, she just didn't have time to angle her sword anywhere else but straight, since that would take more time and precision.

I think at this point they don't necessarily need Gojo to win (Although I would love for him to come back) I'd say if Kusakabe can pick up a little bit, and then Hakari can hurry up and turn Uraume into a paste and join the fight, Hakari could have a serious chance. But what do you think?

For the heart strike: Their goal is to kill sukuna, but if maki wildly swung at sukuna's head, its possible he would have dodge THAT, less the faster STABBING attack. While the heart strike wont kill, it still weakens sukuna by a bit. How much we don't know but..

@galatic-wyvern2993 Nah a far weaker Sukuna at the start of the series survived with no heart at all, and it didn’t slow him down that much. And they know this. They’d know going for the heart is almost pointless and yet Maki did it anyway. Who ever thought of going for the heart caused on the biggest fumble, wether it was Maki in the moment or someone else who planned it, it was an outright terrible call. Even if it’s riskier with lower odds, going for the head is 100% the play. As the only reason Maki would need to step in is if the boys fail. And if they Failed they’re either dead or out of action making her the final real challenger. And if Yuta, Rika and Yuji couldn’t beat him common sense would say Maki alone ain’t touching him. So you’d be gambling on the 1 shot decapitation every day of the week as the odds of her winning a straight 1 on 1 would be terrible.
