Hey there curl friends! I hope this video is helpful! It really took me a long time to realize that some wet frizz is actually helpful in achieving the washday results I so desire! Do you really really struggle with wet frizz? Or do you find that some wet frizz is ok?

My hair is newly curly (a year into semi CGM) and is coarse and salt and pepper. I struggle immensely with wet frizz and flash drying. I have to wonder if the grey hair porosity coupled with the non-grey make a hostile environment?? No combo of products over the last year have eliminated or improved it so I live that fuzzy life. 🤣

I don't think I've ever not had wet frizz, even before trying to help my waves/curls. Starting out, everyone saying wet frizz is something to be avoided has been really frustrating because nothing I do change it. I honestly think it's just because I have really fine, thin, and very fragile hair that dries very fast, completely naturally growing out of my head - no heat damage, no dyes or bleach.

Courtney, between you and Mel, I am getting SO EDUCATED on curls! This video was so thorough. I appreciate the work you put into this. I will have to modify how I do my curl clumping. You've changed my life! I never heard of "wet frizz" before but that is exactly what I was experiencing, and after trying your method shown in this video, my hair looks SOOOO much better! NO FRIZZ! ZERO! I'm in shock. I've been trying the curly hair method since the lockdown started and was just about to give up on it. I've watched so many videos and tried so many different things. My hair would look pretty good at about 80% dry, but by the time it was 100% dry, it would look and feel brittle and frizzy even on day one. Luckily I have a few days off works, so thought I'd check out a few more videos before giving up and just lucked upon yours! Today is the first day since I've been on this journey that my hair looks REALLY good completely dry, no frizz, soft and shiny. I had to come back to this site to thank you! Thank you, thank you, thank you!! 💙🧡💚💜

Hi Courtney. I started brushing in my leave in after watching one of your videos and all the wet frizz disappears like magic! Then I apply gel with praying hands and get huge frizz free clumps. But as soon I start scrunching the gel into my hair, curl clumps break up and I get lots of wet frizz the more I scrunch. what do you recommend in this scenario?

Use your water bottle to spray your cotton t shirt or micro fiber towel with water. Then scrunch with the damp part of your towel/shirt not your hands. I swear it works like you wouldnt believe!!!!!.

I started the wavy journey about two weeks ago. All has been good until today when I washed. My hair had so much wet frizz and it dried poofy and frizzy. I realized I had never final washed. So I picked up the head and shoulders detox shampoo with no silicones, but a gentle sulphate. I made sure to really cleanse my entire head to make sure all those silicones were gone. I styled with the Cantu conditioner, Blueberry Bliss leave in, shea moisture curly custard(a little), and the NYM gel(a small amount). I’m plopping for 30 minutes and waiting to see how it looks after😬

I've discovered my hair doesn't like aloe, glycerin AND cocamidopropyl betaine (derived from coconut oil), which is why I was getting a ton of wet frizz. As these 3 ingredients are in almost EVERYTHING, it's been very difficult to find good products. I've been using Inahsi's Mint Shampoo (glycerin and aloe), Jessicurl's Deep Conditioner, Aloeba conditioner and both Giovanni's Tea Tree shampoo and gel -- all have aloe! Ecoslay Marmalade? Aloe. No WONDER I was having wet frizz. So I'm posting the products I've been able to find in case I have fellow wavies suffering from this problem. Let's hope this is a transition problem and not permanent! For US and UK audiences, so far the only conditioner I've found that are suitable for wavy hair that don't have glycerin, aloe, or cocomidopropyl betaine is Kinky Curly's Knot Today. I'm going to try it next and hope for the best. As a sulfate-free shampoo, Kinky Curly's Come Clean doesn't have glycerin or aloe, though it DOES have cocomidopropyl betaine. Likewise, Jessicurl's Gentle Lather misses out glycerin and aloe but does have cocomidopropyl betaine. For gel, Jessicurl's Spiralicious Gel doesn't have any of these three troublesome ingredients. For folks in the UK, Faith In Nature's Tea Tree or Seaweed & Citrus, or Jojoba Shampoos are all excellent clarifying shampoos without these three ingredients. They have ammonium laureth sulfate, so not CG-approved, but I find they work great for clarifying. The search goes on...

Try just using a gel without the creams etc if it feels greasy. Not everyone needs heavier products. Either that or use a smaller amount. I don’t know a ton, but it is possible your hair is low porosity and needs tons of moisture and very little protein. If it were me, I would remove all proteins, do a clarifying wash, a really good deep condition, and then try your normal routine but with no protein. You may need to deep condition every wash or every other for awhile to get moisture into your hair!

Hi. Courtney has said that although a gel cast is fun, it really has no bearing on how well your hair turns out. I would say to find a gel that you like and see if it will give you the results you’re looking for and forget the cast (at least for now). Good Luck.

@littlered63404 жыл бұрын
@@adeca5052 well having just looked at the ingredients of thst Jessicurl stuff (I make my own hair products) the heaviness is probably from the polyquaternium 69. It's cationic so it binds to your hair and it's a pretty strong hold (hold doesn't correlate to film/cast. I learned this when I started working on making hair gel.) that is waterproof. It's a very good holding agent but I bet as the second ingredient it could be weighing your hair down. Their gelling agent, hydroxy ethyl cellulose, I actually own and it is incredibly mild and has no holding properties on its own, it just makes things thicker, for example HEC is a common ingredient in micellar gel (I also make body products 😂 I like chemistry.) So honestly, the first three ingredients explain everything 😂. I don't have any tips because as you can see we have VERY different hair, but perhaps look for something with PVP or pa/vp, which is less aggressive but still quite strong, and then if you want a gel cast maybe something with more gelling agents instead or in addition to hydroxy ethyl cellulose. Hope this was even a little helpful!

Another great video. I have a question about other topic. How is it with coloring? I know, the CGM doesn't approve it, but some curly girls do color their hair. Are there some instructions? I'm almost 50 and have some greys. I have had color my hair with pure henna ( I have had hair long to the waist) and my hair turned almost straight. (Naturaly it is from 2b to 3b.) Now I have short hair (20cm), I did color it with permanent chemical color and my curls are looser. Can I avoid it? Thanks.
@jflo20124 жыл бұрын
You’re probably looking for an answer from Courtney, but here’s my two cents. A semi permanent hair color is not as rough on your hair. I’ve had pretty good results with Natural Instincts, after using permanent hair color for years. Natural Instincts doesn’t seem to affect my waves. It doesn’t really fully cover gray, but helps it blend. Good Luck!
@jflo20124 жыл бұрын
Christina Obert In the beginning I expected it to be pretty much washed out after 28 washes as noted on the box. However during quarantine I waited 4 months between colorings and that was over 30 washes. Although the color did fade a bit it did not wash out. I did of course have the new growth at the roots, which is why I finally broke down and colored my hair again. Please let me know if you have any more questions. I don’t mind.
@lorainemcgillivray774 жыл бұрын

Quick question that I Never understand about this method, namely, usually When I dry my hair, I hold it in a towel for a bit to soak most of the water, and then dry it with heat, and even so it takes about 30-40 minutes to dry completely. So my question is: how it God's world do you guys manage to dry it by starting when the hair is soaked in water and you just scrunch the water out of it, cause I swear, every time I see people doing this method and getting such amazing results I wanna cry, because I don't get it :(( Also, P.S. I like your haircut a lot, is it just a U-shape or what do I tell my hairdresser if I want it to look like this?
@SwavyCurlyCourtney Жыл бұрын
I gently scrunch out the water but also use a microfiber towel (100% cotton t-shirt works too!) to scrunch out the water or when my hair was longer to plop it. This helps so it's not soaking wet before blow drying. Also, I don't straight blow dry I diffuse it and only to about 75/80% then let it air dry the rest of the way before scrunching out any crunch and root fluffing!

What are some of your favorite products for your hair?? I have wavy/curly hair that’s really long, so throughout the day my hair loses definition and gets frizzy. I live in Florida so humidity is also an issue.

Please guide me. I have wavy hair 2b type..My hair tangles a lot and doesn't have any volume. And i get so many fly ways. I don't want defined waves. I just pre poo, shampoo, conditioner and diy deep conditioning.

It’s supposed to help with volume. Some people love it and some don’t 🤷🏼♀️

I hate wet frizz. It translates into dry frizz that I can’t deal with.
