I buy fighting games all the time because I love them but I'm not very good because I just button mash or use specials because I love the animations, but when I played online I got frustrated so I decided to watch your videos and man have they helped, I mean I'm not amazing at it but just knowing the basics of how to play is really helping out and when I lose I don't feel bad because I know it's a learning experience.

Fighting games are the most rewarding kind of game because you can always truly track your growth! There is no crutch like blaming your teammate its all on you for better or worse. The low points kinda can be frustrating sometimes but when you see yourself grow nothing is better!

@@JoNNyCLOUD171 I’m curious how’s your progress?
@JoNNyCLOUD1713 жыл бұрын
@@salmo436 TLDR This is a long post with a bit of ranting and my thoughts on the game. Progress went very well Thank you. I smashed the game for months learning about the way the game works and certain mechanics and terminology across many fighting games even if I only play this one. I have had a slew of fact based debates with folks about how some nerfs that are overwhlemingly looked down upon which were in fact a good nerf for that point in time. SSJ Goku's 2M was one such point. This was also vice versa on nerfs that came far too late (UI Goku) and nerfs or buffs that were bad objectively. However I wasn't overly impressed with Roflmongers reply to one of my posts. It was indeed quite rude. I also feel it came after a pretty arrogant point in his "career" where the fame over took the quality. This is ofc specualtion. But the post was regarding adding multiple assists to characters. The thing was I felt it wouldn't change the core issues of the game or the individual characters. I was ofc correct. (For the most part) The best on screen characters had very VERY unfair stuff. The game overall was quite balanced but the top tiers had unfair stuff and the best characters stayed the best and unless the lower tiers got much better assists nothing would change that. To which Roflemonger replied "wrong", nothing else, which tbh annoyed me because I used facts and he flat ignored that. That's not how you should treat fans but we also know that many "content creators" get arrogant as their fame increases as well. As they say money talks and BS walks. Again this is speculation but it would make sense. Z Broly - Neutral / Block String Pressure Kid Buu - Block String Pressure / A Assist Bardock - Damage From Any Hit / Lariat Speed And Distance Cell - Damage From A Perfect Attack / Block String Pressure etc etc. Now obviously Cell isn't as good as Z Broly but they encompass the same problems that are "unfair". I also thought Goku Blue would be more prevelent and probably would be if UI and "easier" characters that did the same thing didn't exist. The assists changed basically nothing at the top end of the game or the bottom end. Beams are still the best or equally the best in every situation and Kid Buu A and Bardock B were free 50 / 50s on every character. So giving Krillin a "beam" changed nothing becasue other beam characters had better on screen power. So to be hit with a simple "wrong" shows a lack of etiquette towards the fans and community but also a lack of appreciation to the growth and income literally from viewers. I have streamed on some occasions testing moves out and the facts of everything but I have a lot on atm with decorating and prepping for a baby but I would like to go full time as a stay at home dad to show people what they might be missing becasue I love this game. With regards to the new patch well I am enjoying it however ......some characters that were already very good but kept down by some overpowered stuff are now tearing up the game but at least there is variety now. Anyway let me know your thoughts, I love debates and learning new things and if you have a sleeper OP character that migth be worth using.

This was fairly informative, but I was looking to understand more of the basic mechanics and details. My main question concerning block strings is how normals work in sequence with each other. I already know that lights generally string into mediums, and mediums into heavies. I also know that I can go for standing normals into lows, or vise versa. Is there anything I'm missing here at all? One thing I would like to know specifically (though it may be too generalized a question to ask) is: what is usually the consensus on how many normals of one particular type I can use before I lose my chance to string in different normals? For example, if I start with standing lights then how many of those can I string together before I should move on to lows or mediums? Then, by extension, how many mediums/lows/heavies can I string together before moving on once more, and in what sequences do they work? This is of course assuming that I just want to apply the max amount of pressure on block. This might not be the most practical inquiry, I'm only asking to sooth my curiosity.

A character that helped me with general block strings in fighting games is Robo-Fortune in Skullgirls. Her lights and mediums are are mostly even or slightly positive on block(0 to +2), her heavies are monstrously unsafe, although one is an overhead, and she has a slide kick whose frame advantage varies with spacing(-12 to +9). Jump cancelable air move are also important in that. An excellent character to learn about block strings and frame traps with.

Happy to help friend! Fighting games are about the most difficult game you can possibly get into, much more so than any Shooter or Moba. The roads a long one to get decent, but its the most rewarding. There's a reason why you see 20+ year vets (myself included) in Fighting games, because no other genre can keep people interested as long. More lifers here than anywhere else.

As far as fighting games go yes this is a much faster paced one. There is a lot of different speeds of fighters, street fighter being a bit slower but more scientific, where a lot of playing this game is with your heart. The one ting though even though many games are different, skillsets and finger speed you build do travel over from one game to the next.

Have you considered looking into/giving your thoughts on the metagames of other regions and giving your thoughts on why they may have differences in playstyle or character choices (i.e. SSJ Goku being more prominent in Europe and Japan compared to North America's frequent use of Black)?

Unfortunately I don't know much about other regions playstyles :( But the easy answer at least for that is North america loves the evil guy/anti-hero. Anyone who wears a lot of black and is all evil will always be more popular in NA.

Advantage means they can keep attacking, negative means there is a point where there's nothing they can do other than assist, and neutral means... you get distance?

I swear to god, I block videls full blockstring, and when she ends it with that one where she elbows overhead then punches like 4 times at your chest, and I am blocking every other over head right before it, and then sometimes when she does the overhead elbow, it doesn’t say I blocked, and sometimes i block that but then I still hold back and block with out pressing any buttons, and she hits me with those punches that follow afterwards it hits me everytime, is it an invincible move?

Hey man i love your content your the best dbfz youtuber. I wanted to quickly ask Whats the best option to recover from a soft knockdown. Im not sure if its a soft knock down but i referring to momements like when you recover from a light god slicer or light specials in general in the air and start back on the ground or even after the light auto combo. I try to up tech but i gusse because im not completely knocked down i get hit in the jump animation. If i block on the ground i get grabed and if i push a button i lose nearly all the time. When i get hard knocked down im good since i know my options but this is honestly how i lose most of my games. Thanks to any future replys
@rooflemonger6 жыл бұрын
Down tech is generally the safest option of all the tech options in the air. Also for the most part a lot of the time if their stuff isn't tight it will let you recover and act before them.

Has anyone ever thought about how blockstrings in this game are unfair? Been playing fighting games for years and this punishing more complicated than it needs to be. Come to think of it, you dont punish in this game. You counter. Games like KOF,SF, MVC, Tekken teaches you to be cautious with what button you press so you dont get punished. This game has punishing in it but you are rewarded for pressing more buttons rather than pressing less. It throws me off.
@rooflemonger6 жыл бұрын
I don't think its unfair. Its easier to block in this game than the more savage stuff in MKX. No game with assists has punishes until the assists run out, that's how all tag games work.
@Made2Slash6 жыл бұрын
rooflemonger Ok your right about that. But what annoys me, is punishing in this game. The options are limited. And i know i sound backwards but i got so used to having dragonpunch motions to do an anti-air. You feel me? There are too many fighting games to learn!!!

Well 8/10 times the jumpstring "starter" is whatever attack you did that got blocked. As you would transition into your combo, then you notice you got blocked and then you made due from there.

So a blockstring is usually 4-6 attacks( 5L - 5L - 2M - 5M - 5H or qcf/qcb L/M/H/S) with a gap in between that can only be either deflected/lvl 3/invincible special moved right? But some characters are able to extend it because they have minimal gaps making it tricky to counter it? Whats the best way to practice block strings?!
@terryterry49346 жыл бұрын
Just set the dummy to guard all and practise string at first, then set guard random and practise confirming combos from your block string.
@terryterry49346 жыл бұрын
Also cover your gaps with assists
@rooflemonger6 жыл бұрын
Well a blockstring can be many things, I use the longer ones there as a good baseline. The base of the blockstring is built from the hitconfirm, although hitconfirms in dbfz are a lot longer than they are in say a street fighter game. Not all blockstrings have gaps, some do some don't. If you perfectly time your assists some characters have no gaps through like, 15+ hits on block. As for practicing it just set your dummy to block all and go to down.

The best assists shouldn't be attached to the best characters, it should be balanced. Goku Black shouldn't have the second best assist and be a top tier character to fight with. For ex. Ginyu should have a better assist because he isn't top tier. We really need/want a real balance patch that shakes up things and gives characters the tools that allow everyone to be a potential pick instead of why would I want Ginyu when I can have goku black is better in every way

In a perfect world, but that's the way the cookie crumbles.
@iAmCalypso336 жыл бұрын
Cole Bodine Every character is viable in casual but not in tournament. This game is not balanced in that way. For the top tier characters 2 solo combos and you're dead, for the rest it takes 3 combos with assist extensions to get a kill. Plus the top tier characters have more tools in their arsenal. I'm not saying you can't win with a low tier character what I'm saying is that if you take out each characters assist and just look at them that the top tier is the same. Likewise if you look just at the assists the top tier is the same. That shouldn't be, some characters shouldn't get the world while others struggle for peanuts. You have a beam assist one of the best in the game, well maybe you shouldn't have the best 2 h in the game. Additionally, they could allow us to choose the assist for each character like Skullgirls.
