Root rake on a bulldozer blade works ok but super slow. Using a Track Loader like a Cat 953/963 works great for grubbing and cleaning / stacking debris. Being able to turn the bucket teeth at approximately 30 degrees to the ground while moving forward and slightly lifting the teeth to keep excess dirt out of the “push” pile is a fast way of “raking” leftover brush etc.

That's a good job pushing if you had a bigger dozer you would have the whole thing done you know your one of the best operators I have ever saw and I've saw a bunch over the years 45 years of working

I think Chris realizes he needs at least a D6 dozer OR a large rubber tire frontend loader...........but his Uncle is also an Owner in this company ! WE don't know what percentage of the Business Chris owns , so he may not have much decision power when it comes to purchasing new equipment .

Last clearing job I did the landowner tried to "help" (save himself money actually) by cutting 3 to 5 inch butt scrub down to ground level between my bid and arrival. Each would stop my JD 450G in its tracks on a straight push.Bid the job based on hours and nothing else. Spent hours popping each one out of the ground with the corner of the blade. HOURS equal money. When I bid the job it was a straight knock down, push, and pile for him to burn: no rake required and I left it at another site 62 miles away. You've got some serious skill (REALLY serious skill) but a rake will always get dirt into the pile. Just no way around it.

With the way you load the haul truck is would seem to be more economical to use the truck, to move the piles of brush, than the dozer.

With all the backing up, it seems that you are being productive only 1/2 the time. Is it of benefit that instead of backing, the doozer turns 180 and pushes the other way?

I fully agree with you that it would not be cost effective to buy a wood chipper. However have you and your boss considered buying an articulated wheeled grapple to move large piles of debris instead of using a dozer and an excavator as you did on this job ? I'm speaking of one similar in size and carrying capacity to the one you are often shown using at your friend's lumber mill to unload logs from trailers.

Can’t help thinking with all that “stuff” a chipper and shifting to a biomass plant would be an idea...BUT the economics of your part of the world may not stack up...... would it also reduce your work and so your income ? I would like to see how the economics stack up. The unknowns are .......distance from a biomass plant, the availability of a chipper and access to the site / plot for trucking stuff oot ( sorry out) Love to see how it’s done. If any client ever says why it took so long or why it is so expensive..... it is come here and watch, argument over. Amacf from Scotland

My dream job is to operate equipment. But finding someone to teach me how is almost impossible. people forget where they come from. And that at one point. They didn’t know how to run equipment and someone taught them. Or they learnt because they was able. They won’t train people to run it. Like me and it sucks. Because that’s what I want to do
