Love it! I did 2 cups steel cut oats and 4 cups water. I like how that cake out a little better than when I did the 5 cups water. It was a little runny for me. Thank you for the video! Love your style! Straight to it!

I occasionally cook steel-cut oats the old fashioned way in a pan of water for 30+ minutes so I don't cook them very often. So this has a lot of promise. I never thought of cooking steel cut oats in the instant pot.
@LetsEatPlants4 жыл бұрын
I think you’ll really like it! Let me know what you think when you try it. 😁 I need to do an update on this video because I’ve also recently started cooking them in the instant pot (on slow cook) overnight and I want to show how easy that is too! It’s so great to be able to put everything in the instant pot at night, and wake up to ready to eat oatmeal. 😊

This looks super good! I typically make oatmeal in the microwave because it is what I was taught, but I think that this may need to be something that I try.
@LetsEatPlants5 жыл бұрын
Rabbit Food Fitness I always used to use instant oats myself! But after reading up on including more whole grains vs. processed grains I decided to give steel cut a try! They are chewier, but still good. Def give them a try. 🤗🤗

Yesss! I love to batch/prep as well! The new baked oatmeal I just did (search persimmon oatmeal on my channel) is great for meal prepping as well! I just baked a double yesterday (you can sub the persimmon for any fruit you like) and it will last us a few days in the fridge. Just reheat when needed! (Works as a healthy dessert as well. 😉😉)

I love the final texture of the oatmeal from this recipe, thank you! It's fluffy and chewy. Instead of 5 cups of water, I used 4.5 cups of water + .5 cup of milk. (I heard putting in too much milk in instant pot might cause "burn" error). I have one question - did you ever store this oatmeal mixed with apples & berries, just like the recipe, in the refrigerator? How long can we keep them there and eat?
@LetsEatPlants3 жыл бұрын
You’re welcome and I’m so glad you’re enjoying! Yes! I do add the berries and/or apples and keep it in the fridge all week. I find it lasts 5-6 days just fine, even with the added fruit. 😊😊

Hello from France. I just got an Instant pot so trying to learn how to use it. Am a little confused, do you not have a Porridge/oatmeal setting??
@LetsEatPlants4 жыл бұрын
Hello there! 😃 I do have the porridge setting, but I find that the settings are just pre-set times. Kind of like “bookmarks” or “saved settings” for those dishes. So if you make this porridge a lot, you can set *your* porridge setting to the cook time you use for these oats. (I.e. press porridge button and it should already be on high pressure, set the timer to 4 mins and then let it start. Next time you can just press porridge and the time will already be saved for your preferences.) I think you might find this article helpful! simmertoslimmer.com/instant-pot-manual-for-buttons/#:~:text=The%20buttons%20on%20the%20Instant%20Pot%20can%20be,Instant%20Pot%20at%20the%20touch%20of%20a%20button or this one: www.pressurecookrecipes.com/instant-pot-buttons/ Let me know if you have any more questions! Would love to help out if I can. 🤗🤗

Great Video! Where does Old Fashion Oats fall into all of this? Are they processed a lot ?
@LetsEatPlants4 жыл бұрын
Thank you so much! 🤗🤗 I believe “old fashioned oats” are the same as rolled oats. But I have also seen steel cut oats called “old fashioned” before (but they should at least be labeled with the words “steel cut” on there somewhere if they are!). 😅😅 You can also always check the oat itself. If it is a large rolled flake, that is “rolled” which is more processed than steel cut, but still a better option than quick cooking oats. If they are hard & chunky they are probably steel cut. Hope this helps!

I guess I had too much water in my 6 qt. I came all out the release valve when I did quick release. However I did place a towel over it, could that cause it?
@LetsEatPlants4 жыл бұрын
Good question! Usually I wait at least around 10 minutes to let some of the pressure release naturally, and then release any remaining pressure left. I’ve done quick releases before and have had the same problem as you! (Good thinking with the towel.) I think waiting at least 5 mins will help, but 10-15 would be better! Hope that helps. 😊

Buy from bulk bin. Even more affordable and much fresher!! You can taste the difference. 3 to 1 oats to water. Cook between 5 - 10.

You didn’t show how you make your breakfast in the mornings. Do you microwave it? Do you have to add extra liquid due to any drying while in the fridge?
@LetsEatPlants4 жыл бұрын
Yes! I usually microwave it! You could also heat it on the stovetop if that's your only option (or just eat it cold! 😮), but microwave is definitely the easiest! 😁 You can also add some plant milk once you heat it to make it a bit creamier. I usually don't, as I feel it's still pretty wet even after a few days in the fridge. Up to your personal preference though! 😀

Steel cut oats are not the least processed. Unharvested oats would be the least processed. But, those would be a challenge to prepare and consume. The least processed oats I've eaten are oat groats.
@LetsEatPlants3 жыл бұрын
Yes!! I didn't know oat groats were a thing until after I had made this video but you are 100% correct! Thanks to Dr. Greger's BROL (barley, rye, oat groats & lentils) I've put them on my list to try. 😁😁 I assume they're similar to spelt berries, which I love! Thanks for the informative comment! 🙏🏻

Hmmm🤔 everyone says to pressure cook for a different time for same amount, 2c oats, 5c water... one guy said 10min....
@LetsEatPlants Жыл бұрын
Yes people like different textures that’s why. 😊 It’s not really about how “cooked” it is (since technically you can eat oats “raw” like in overnight oats) but more so about the consistency. It can also depend on the brand of oats. I now use the “quick cooking” steel cut oats which cook in only 1 minute in the Instant Pot.
@terriefaber54464 жыл бұрын
I made this and it was a disaster. When I released the pressure as you suggested at the end of the one minute cook time I had oatmeal spurting out the vent and all over the kitchen. I think it would have been much better to wait for a natural release.
@LetsEatPlants4 жыл бұрын
Oh no!!! I am so sorry to hear that!! I can see now that I wasn’t very clear in my video.. but I do usually wait a bit of time after it finishes cooking before doing a release of pressure (usually about 5-10 mins of natural release and then releasing any remaining pressure). That was the time in the video that I was cutting the up the apple, but I should have been more clear. I’m so sorry that happened to you! It’s happened to me too actually. I just quickly closed the valve again and waited longer for the pressure to come down further. Anyway, hope it all turned out ok for you in the end. 😔😔
