Having been a mechanic, fabricator, got my mech e degree, worked as a product development engineer for 20 years, then into managing product development teams and engineering/development departments, a guy like this would be a diamond to find. Might not be a true engineer, but anyone who can be assigned a task like this and land on his feet is 10 times better than an academic champion in an engineering program. What I discovered over the years was that finding a degree'd engineer with practical experience was much more productive than finding a PhD.

John Tomasik I have been a mechanic for 38 years. Got my training in marine corps institute and we had to learn everything from all the different welding types to rebuilding engines and transmissions and we had to fabricate parts on our mill and lathe in the recovery vehicle. Even with all the training and experience of working in different units, I stilll couldn’t land a job as a mechanic in the civilian world so I opened my own shop. Seems that in this country,unless you pay someone offf,you can not get a good job anymore,it’s that or having a friend refer you. So now I collect my disability and work in my own shop privately and videos like this give me ideas. I have one for powering a go kart with an electric motor powered by a generator head connected to a small engine because the electric motor has more torque and instant speed than the gas Motor and it revs so high you don’t need a transmission. A superior Gokart. A hybrid!

@@grokster9ontheroads174 Way cool! I was working for Cat when I went back to college. I'd run across the academic types, who knew little to nothing about how sharp mechanics and tradesmen can be. Many mechanics at Cat had numerous patents. I'll never forget I was at a party and a bunch of college people were there. They were talking about their degrees and I mentioned I was a mechanic before talking about my major. One girl piped up and said, "oh, yeah, well we need those people too." Cracked me up. My son's a cert'd master tech for Lexus. It was amazing to see his logic improve drastically as he gained experience as a wrench. My dad got his engineering degree in what was Czechoslovakia. What was really cool about their engineering programs were the students would be in class in the morning, and in the shops working in the afternoon,. That practical experience really set their students apart as apposed to many who come from our programs here and the only thing they can do are the problems in the back of the chapter.

I have been welding over 20 years in America, I have gained certifications and lost certs. in many processes and materials through A.W.S. I'm mechanically inclined I if I ever have a shop I would like my Measurements to be metric, reason is because most of the Engineers firms Canada, Mexico and America metric for products. Company's Engineers draws it on a Cad in metric then transliterated in the Standard Impreal measurement. Alote of the time it's the Welder Fabricator becomes the Engineers best friend. Countless hours of wasted time redoing math and materials.

I wish more people had your attitude. EVERYONE that's got a job listing around me for a welder/fabricator/mechanic requires a 2 year degree. I get turned down all the time for positions even though I hear it all the time, "your portfolio (a bunch of pictures I've taken of my work over the years with detailed explanations) is very inpressive, you're a more consistent welder than our lead." They always tell me that they can't hire me because I dont have a degree.
@johntomasik1555
@johntomasik1555 4 жыл бұрын
@@casey360360 It's gonna depend on what you're applying for. I couldn't hire a non-degree'd engineer for a true engineering position unless he had proof he could do that work. A lot of people confuse mechanical design with engineering. It isn't the same. Engineering, at least many of the disciplines, is the use of the laws of science to predict what a design requires to do the job. As a n example, I did a structural analysis on some wind turbine blades. Without my training in statics, dynamics, physics, and materials engineering, I couldn't have done that work properly. This is in no way a jab at you. I don't know what you're applying for. There are most certainly situations where I'd take experience over a degree, if it's allowed. But, there are engineering jobs that do require the academic training. It's just that those with practical experience AND that degree far outshine someone who was just an academic.

For fuel a 2stroke doesn't work the same as a 4stroke so where his reed sits it wouldn't get fuel to the top of the piston without him doing that normally on 4 stroke the carb goes to the barrel top end & a 2 stroke goes to bottom crank up so if he didn't channel it fuel would never make it to the top of the piston as it's a 4 stroke abit complicated to explain but in that kind of way is how it works what he done was needed for sure

That would be much more difficult, 4 to 2 your simplifying the engine, if you go the opposite, your having to add a bunch more things that simple engine didn't have before, you could do it, but it would require a completely new block (or heavily modifying the original) and many new pieces (basically the entire rotating mass) and not to mention valves and valve trane, much more difficult to do in reverse

As someone who has ported over a half dozen 2 stroke engines, I was half surprised that it ran with that small of ports. If I were you, I would triple the width of the exhaust port and enlarge/reshape the transfer ports. You could easily triple the power if you do it right.
