I was walking by a cemetery earlier today when I noticed a man on his knees in front of a gravesite, sobbing and pounding his fist on the ground. He loudly moaned, "Why, why did you have to die? Why did you have to die?!" The sight of the fellow in such misery caused me to feel sympathetic and walk over to the man, offering a hand on his shoulder. I then say, "I am so sorry for your loss. Was it your wife?" "No" the poor soul responded with a loud sniffle, "It was her first husband. "

I didn't exactly work in a cemetery, but older folks would hire me to tend to their loved one's grave sites. I worked in a flower shop so I would deliver wreaths, plants, bouquets etc and keep the plots looking manicured(outside of the regular landscaping and grass cutting. Sometimes I would be there up until the cemetery closed. I always thought cemeteries, while definitely quiet, were kinda creepy. I did this side gig for abt 3yrs and I have changed my mind abt them. After I became more comfortable wth my eternal surroundings...lol...I starting talking to the deceased family members when I was there. It was like free therapy. I considered those folks my heavenly friends. I admit I saw a few questionable things but nothing ever scary...maybe more sad if a passing was recent. I could feel a lot of good juju around me if you know what I mean. I felt honored to be around these folks who had gone b4 me. I was able to make their forever homes a little bit more beautiful and I really felt that they appreciated my hard work❤.

I worked in customer service and through conversation with one of the customers, found out she was Emmett Till's first cousin. She told me the story and how it impacted his family. That whole ordeal seemed so demonic and evil. The family is still haunted by it and this woman was in her late 60s at the time. People can be so cruel.

That last one was insane! I have twin brothers and they have a tendency to frequent the same stores and restaurants. One shoe store clerk was bringing a pair of shoes to one, only to find out it's the other twin, they were both at the same store by complete chance. It's hilarious to hear when that happens, but to see a stranger whose an identical copy of a deceased relative? I'd probably end up fainting.

The oldest cemetary in my city has a high hill and under that hill is hundreds of yellow fever victims because people were dying too quickly for singular graves to be made. While there, I stepped on the hill and felt like I just stepped on a power line I took the hint and avoided the hill.

I work in the funeral industry. Work in the morgue, and pick decedents up from where they die and take them to the morgue/ funeral home and, occasionally do graveside attending for burials. Had many weird experiences that I just can’t really explain, and some that I can. Seen a lot of stuff in the job, but I love it. You’re really helping people when not many other people can.

The fact that him and his father both died the same way shows how horrible and pervasive racism was (& still is). No, French are not all rude, some in big cities are rude, just like in America or Britain or anywhere in the world. French are very nice overall, they love it if you can speak their language but are usually surprised when some people do, like us Aussies, I blew them away with my knowledge of French. I wasn't sure if the rumor that French people are rude was just an exaggeration or not and then my niece and I made a trip to Europe a few years ago. We had Euro-rail passes (you just ride any train you want for as long as you want, to anywhere you want, get off, stay off as long as you want then get back on...it's a really neat way to see Europe) and we went to the Netherlands, Belgium, Germany, Switzerland, Denmark and France and the ONLY country where we were greeted with rudeness was...you guessed it...France. We went to the Visitor Kiosk in the train station to ask a question and they acted like none of them could speak English. If we had approached someone on the street that might have made sense because first off we actually might have approached someone who could not speak English and second it is not the job of the man on the street to answer tourists' questions so I could perhaps understand why we would coldly be told "We don't speak English" but if some of the people (maybe ALL of the people) in the tourist kiosk did not speak English I will eat my hat. They just simply did not want to answer our question. BTW, our question was not complicated. We asked when the next train for a certain country would come through. We ended up deciding that we didn't care where a train was going, we would just take the next train OUT OF FRANCE and then from that other country we would figure out how to get to where we actually wanted to go. That is exactly what we did so we spent a grand total of about one hour in France and that was about an hour too much. Our trip was great and the only country I can honestly say I would hope to NEVER set foot in again is France! BTW, my award for the friendliest person we encountered (and we encountered many friendly people) was the cab driver in Germany who spent a great deal of time telling us what sites we should see and the best time of day to go certain places and where we would find the best places to eat, etc... The things the rude people in the tourist kiosk in France COULD have told us even though we didn't ask any of those questions of them. We didn't actually ask the cab driver any of those questions either. He just saw that we were tourists and volunteered a lot of information that he thought would be helpful.

This is a nice compilations of stories. While my 30 minutes break from work I always sit on the cemetery. It's calm and beautiful. I enjoy to sit under the willow between the graves of soldiers who died in WW2. But it's also never silent. There are always people or worker who tend to graves and there is always that couple that meets in the little chapel to kiss without being seen. The most creepy cemetery encounter I had was in France Normandy. It was near D-Day (I think the 4th of June?) and two friends and I had rented a small house in Colleville-sur-Mer. It wasn't really dark and I decided I needed to take a walk, down to Omaha Beach and up to the american cemetery (the famous one we all know from "Saving Private Ryan"), past it along the road and back to the house. Everything was fine until I was halfway up the cliff, when I saw a shilouette (it had gotten dark by that point) of some guy. He was on that one platform a little bit down the cliff and was acting like he was going to defend the cliff and bunkers from the approaching Allies. As said I only saw his shilouette and I have no idea if he was really dressed as german and if the rifle he was aiming at the sea was real or not but I booked it. Continued my walk up the steps to the monument as fast and silent as possible. Beside that the French people in Normandy are all very polite and super nice and also speak english.

(Story 2) So back in the early 80s I had an employee (he was still in high school) break into a mausoleum and break into a coffin. He stole the skull that was in it and took it home. Removed whatever bits of flesh and hair were still on it and put it on top of his stereo. About a week later he got busted and we didn't see him again. 39 years later I was thinking of my old work place and googled his name. He had been arrested for counter-fitting about a year ago. Still a screwup. He's also the reason I can't stand Tom Hanks because he looked just like him.
