Love it. The 18-105 gets underrated by too many people because it is "only" f4. I find it a wonderfully versatile video lens that gives superb results as seen here.

@@CrystalJFarmer If you are like most of us who buy it, you will love it. Goes brilliantly paired with the 10 to 18 f4 OSS, Later you can add the Sigma trio of 16, 30, and 56mm f1.4 primes to get the fast prime goodness, and a macro, and you will have the perfect kit. But, whatever other lenses you get, the 18-105 is thye lens that will probably get the most use.

@@CrystalJFarmer Enjoy. The power zoom is very handy. Hard to get smooth zooms by hand. A tip for getting very slow zooms (doesn't work for all subjects - depend of the action in the shot.) is to shoot at a higher frame rate, then halve the frame rate in post. I had a question years ago about whether or not it is parfocal, so I emailed Sony support. The answer was that because they didn't know they asked the engineering team at headquarters who said that while it is not parfocal per se, it is designed ti work with the AF focus motors as it zooms, making focus adjustments on the fly, so that it behaves as though it is parfocal. It seems to work well in that regard. The f4 aperture advantages are that it is a constant aperture, and that it dramatically reduces cost size and weight. An f2.8 version of the lens would be only one stop faster but wouyld be at least double the price, weigh at least 50% more, and be way larger, and/or have a much reduced zoom range. All lenses are compromises, and the reason this lens is so likable is because the compromise is that it is f4 and relatively affordable. But in having the constant aperture, it delivers the same benefit of an f2.8 zoom, of an aperture that does not change as you zoom. A tip for blurry backgrounds. Where it is doable, step back further, and shoot at a longer tele length. Enjoy the OSS. In-lens stabe works better at longer tele lengths than in-camera stabe can. It is very useful.

Amazing footage... so simple yet so powerful. I'm trying to figure out which picture profile to use... Cine4 looks good, but I can't achieve that quality. Have you changed cine4 settings? Thanks! I only change detail to -7 and overexpose a lil bit, because cine4 highlights go to 109%. So you can regain some highlights in post.

I didn't use 'active' stabilization, just the OSS of the lens. In Premiere Pro I used 1-10% of warp stabilizer to make some shots more stable.

Thanks! it depends on the footage but mainly it's a S curve with the highlights brought down and a creative lut at 30%

Thanks! it mainly has some quality-of-life improvements like better battery life and it's brighter screen. I don't really miss the stabilisation because it wasn't that good in the first place and I often use stabilized lenses and the new active stabilization can be handy although the crop is pretty big.

Man, I keep coming back to your videos because they're so beautiful. I have the same camera (a6500) and lens (18-105 f4) but my footage doesn't look nearly as good. What program do you use for colour grading? Also, how do you handle the camera and lens combo in low light? I find I have to crank my ISO up which ruins the image quality. Thanks!

thank you so much! I Use Adobe Premiere Pro to edit and color grade. In general I don't shoot in lowlight that often but if I do I use a prime lens and never crank up my ISO higher than 800 or 1600.
