In the 80's there was a trend that became synonymous with 80s metal bands, and that was that small town people would come into LA from off the bus, thinking they would make it because of their talents. However, the city ended up eating them alive because they have never been in a city before, let alone a city like LA in the 80s. This song was a very accurate depiction of what those unsuspecting people had to look forward to. Everyone was out for themselves or to make a quick buck, no matter the consequences or at whose expense. There was rampant drug abuse, exploitation, and homicide, but everyone wanted to go to LA because it was the epicenter of 80s metal.

I wouldn't put November rain as an "early" introduction. They should stick to appetite for destruction for atleast 3 or 4 songs I think. November rain was like 5 years after appetite for destruction. This was the song that introduced GnR back when I was in middle school. This group really defined those years for me, and even to this day I'm still getting new meanings out of their songs. Axl the lead singer actually does have a 6 octave range in his voice which is amazing so the high parts aren't actually part of a character or anything. For my money, Slash on lead guitar is easily one of the top 5 greatest guitarists ever, his solos are amazing and especially when you get into their longer songs they actually enhance the lyrics. Here are some of my ideas for you all to try out. From their first album Appetite for Destruction - Paradise City, Sweet Child O' Mine, My Michelle, and Mr. Brownstone From the Use your Illusion double album - They have a trilogy which is Don't Cry, November Rain, and Estranged. Others on those albums that are must listens are Coma, Civil War, Breakdown, Locomotive, The Garden, Don't Damn Me, Bad Apples, and You Could Be Mine.

Came across this song which turned out to be a band back in 87 on a movie called "Dirty harry and the dead pool" it really had me hooked from that day, i was 9 going on 10, and i went back to see the same movie just for that song. But a young Jim Carrie was posing as the singer in it. Oh, and i had a closer look at the movie years later and saw that the band had a cameo role in it as well in the boat yard scene.

Others may have commented on this already, but I like the song because it gives you a very specific idea of what a large city does to you, especially if you're there looking for fame. I have to say, I love the lyrics because they are powerful, sleazy, sexy, and everything you'd find along your way tot he top, only to be chewed up and spit out by the city itself. It's pretty hardcore, for me anyway. Great lyrics. I hope you take time to analyze them. Love your videos! Rock on! \m/

The concrete jungle. His interpretation of the city streets. Slash is one of the most famous guitarists in the world. His iconic bolo and hair made up his iconic style. Guns and Roses was on of the most popular rock bands of the 80's. They were crazy partiers and were known for destruction. They still tour today to a packed house.

Yes it's a real shame they can now only pack out a house, i remember the good old days when they could pack out a stadium.

Lex was 100% right, Axl wrote this about his experience of hitting the streets when he got to California for the first time.

This song was written in response to Axl Rose's experiences after moving from a small town in Kansas to Hollywood and encountering the drastically different culture there.
