Lexus GX 460 Snow Day!

We took the GX up to the snow to test it's winter off road capabilities and throw some snow balls. This one is a bit experimental since I'm usually in the studio on script. Let me know what you guys think in the comments below! We'll talk about whether you should use Toyota Atrac, low range, airing down or even 4 wheel chains in a slippery winter driving situation.

Lo range doesn't make the engine move faster... it's a gear reduction... thus slower speed, but more torque... In slippery situations use 4H with 2nd start... that will put down less torque

What kind of rack do you have on the top of your GX. I have a 2014 GX and I would like on like it. Do you have the flush rails or the Prado rails? Thanks.

Great video and there’s no way the GX is a poor mans Land Cruiser. It is a Land Cruiser 150 Prado in a posh suit. Just a pity you don’t get the Diesel engine and manual gearbox.

@@WastingTimeInTheWoods Sorry I’m a Scouser. Where I’m from the 200 series is discontinued and the 150 is called a Toyota Land Cruiser. They’ve just brought out the new 2.8 diesel with 204bhp. I think you can still get a manual but it’s the absolute base vehicle with steel wheels and vinyl seats. Can you guess where I’m from?

@@WastingTimeInTheWoods 200 series got dropped about 4 years ago. It wasn’t worth updating the emissions for the amount they were selling. Probably 500 Range Rovers to every 1 200 series. If you spot a 200 in the UK it’s always a guy in his 60’s driving it.

Well that depends on the brand of the tire, if you carry it inflated and how determined you are. Check the GXOR tire database I linked in the description of the tires and wheels video I did.

265/70/17 and 265/65/18 often fit. But it depends on the tire brand and which style hitch you have. One trick with factory hitch is to loosen hitch attachment bolts and push the hitch out so those sizes fit. You can also slightly deflate. Don’t forget to re-torque to spec.

Rob did a much better job of answering that than I did. Thx Rob. The other consideration is the factory hitch. I hear you can get a 285 in there with out a hitch if you deflate it and ratchet strap it. Not a great option, but gets you a 285 without a spare carrier. You'll just need a compressor to use the spare. No worries though, I've got a video for that too : )
