Lexus LX470 Oil Change - The Toyota Landcruiser's Favorite Cousin With The 4.7L 2UZ-FE V8

I purchased one of the cheapest, clear title, running and almost rust free 100 series Toyota Landcruiser. The catch is, I had to settle for a Lexus LX470. This SUV has the Toyota 4.7L 2UZ-FE V8. Several of these engines have reached one million miles. This one has 328,000 at the time of this publication.
It's time for this truck's second oil change.
The vehicle was purchased for $4,200 USD plus an additional $2,600 in parts. The final cost, thus far, has been $6,800. (No labor costs because I did all of the mechanical and repair work myself.)

Word to the wise. Never ever use a filter wrench to install any oil filter!! Only use your hands

I lube the drive shaft zirks every oil change. Cool sled. Mine is almost new at 214k. The night vision still works perfectly!

Great video on the oil change! I sometimes question Japanese manufacturers on their positioning of oil filters. This one kind of reminds of the oil filter position of the 2000-2009 Nissan Elgrand with the VQ V6 engine. Actually the Elgrand's might be even worse. Glad you were able te get that sucker loose!

Good video with valuable info. FYI....In all my LX/LCs I change the oil when it gets dirty. And that is usually 5000-10000 mile intervals. Really doesn't matter. Also, I use Walmart Super Tech or the next cheapest 15w40 diesel oil. I like it because of the cleaning additives it. In the hot summer months I may use 20w50 in my 80 series LXs due to more prone to leaking. My '96 LX has only 490,000 miles so I wonder how many more miles I could get if I used expensive sythetic oil? The "thump" you mentioned.....look at front drive plates. Jack up tires, take off dust cap and check slack between end of axle and drive plate. It is probably significant and may be your thump.

What oil would I pick for a vehicle with 130,000 miles on the engine? I'd use the same oil that is recommended in the owner's manual. There's no reason not to. If your engine is burning or leaking oil, then you might consider a high mileage oil of the same grade. Personally I have used synthetic for many many years. Now I use 0W-20 Super Tech.
