Lexus or ‘Lectric?

As reported, you can now buy an electric sedan for under $40K - not a subcompact or smaller - but a family sedan. It's tempting to make the move when you pay $100 for each fill up.

I bought a Ford Mach-e in late 2022. 25,000 miles (40,000 km) later, and I'm thrilled. My Lexus doesn't get much love anymore. I have roughly 300 miles of range, and no longer pay $100 per week to fill up my car. Also, here in Los Angeles, I get access to the HOV lanes, which I use daily.

This I got new Prius 0-60 6 secs, 60 mpg, under $30k, looks way better, and proven reliability

Quite agree had a few hybrids as courtesy cars.very impressed..but full ev no way not impressed

Do not buy and EV. The Tesla has a good powertrain, but the build quality is horrendous and the resale value is terrible. The KIA and Hyundai models are notorious for high battery replacement costs - $60,000 (more than the car new!), there have been three cases in Canada now, I believe, look it up on the net. There have also been numerous battery fires and some have exploded in garages and burnt down homes (Jeep Wrangler EV and Renault EV's) as well as sunk huge auto transport ships. In your climate, the battery heater will run all the time and since you will have defrost, defog, lights and most high draw items running as well in the winter, it will have an effect on your range. Some say cutting it in half. Then you have to install a level two 240 volt charger in your garage, which is about $1200 (they only give you the 120 volt unit when you buy the car which takes about 12 hours to charge it). Engineers estimate it would take about 10-12 years to get your money back vs a gas vehicle and by then, you may have had two battery changes. To me, they are just not viable yet. Buy a good used Toyota or Lexus hybrid (they started it all!) and enjoy the extra power, fuel efficiency and resale. Maybe in 10 years when the solid state batteries come out things may change, but right now I would avoid an EV, especially in Canada.
