The year this album came out, I spent countless hours learning to play the piano parts to this song and about half of the other tracks on it. I was 15, and Motley Crue, Metallica, GNR were great staples to learn solid chord progressions but also the use of registers and dynamics to effect within that basic musical structure. Only now that I hear it again do I realise how much Floyd-like form is underneath... when your son commented on the multiple guitar solos, it made me realise how much more compositional form underlays so much of GNR's work--it's part of the re-listen-ability of their music, I think--I just never noticed before. I've always felt like they were a bit of a 'guilty' pleasure, but that writing's tight. :) Thanks for the fresh listen!!

GnR will always be the best band in the world to me. Zeppelin were great too but I grew up on GnR and Aerosmith etc ✌😆🤘

GnR Are legends even in their short time. Civil War is one of the importants songs I know by a BAND! GnR had no clue how good and right they where with this Epic Song!

I think the fact that Zeppelin came first holds a lot of weight, GNR took a lot from Zeppelin especially Axl. The quality and the developments of sound recordings is a huge factor also. Also it’s apples and oranges🤷🏾♂️

Axl wouldnt have had his chops without Zep. Vote Zep

The speech at the beginning of the song is from "Cool Hand Luke". Axl Rose is the singer. (you both are just too adorable!)

And yes Guns n Roses is one of the best rock bands ever. Personally I hate Axel Rose, the singer..as a person. He was on tour with Metallica years ago. And James Hatfield, lead singer of Metallica, was burned badly by the pyro show. They asked Axel to keep going to finish the show. And Axel was a drama queen and pitched a fit. Anyways he is legendary of pitching fits and screwing over Slash and members of the GNR. With all that trash talk said..Axel is one hell of a great singer. Always down for GNR

Yes james was hurt badly by pyro, but im kinda tired of the Axl had a hissy fit narrative, that whole show had issues, guns have all stated that the pa system was playing yp that show too and they couldnt heard properly, tried to keep playing dispite this, also they had posponed a fes show befor this because axl had problems with his throat. So not being able too hear himself properly due to the techicall problems, they all said it was the best to finish early so as to not damage axls voice and they couldnt hear what tgey were playing.

@@teganfreya4645 and Axl was throwing his usual Diva fit that he was known for lol. Lots of factors involved, Axl was one of them.
@teganfreya46453 жыл бұрын
@@Luke26945 im not saying Axl didnt have issues but this wasnt a diva fit. As a vocalist being worried about damaging his instrument after comeing back on tour from having problems with his and then not being able to hear himself properly due to tachnicall issues with the sound system is not having a diva fit, but its ok most people just listen to james narrative on the situation and take that as fact lol

This is my favorite GNR song and one of the best songs ever made!! The intro to this song was one of the first things I ever tried learning on guitar.
