I like minimalistic designs and stay away from all the gamer stuff. Especially since all of it is plastic and thus, inevitably, looks cheap. Some plastics can look pretty good, true, but I'd really like aluminium more. Simple shapes endure, too. Like designs from Apple, starting from early 2010s. They do not look like they're from early 2010s, they still look good even now. Gamer stuff? That will eventually grow outdated, just like all-glass cases already have.

I like both single player games with breathtaking scenarios and competitive shooters. At this moment it is still too early to play competitive games in 4K and LG has unveiled an all in one solution that could solve the problem of those who, like me, find themselves in the middle ground, torn between the choice of image quality of 4K and the fluidity of Full HD at a high refresh rate. Great review.

I tend to agree, but I'm also used to playing competitive games on a 27" 1440p monitor. @@thedofflin Honestly the issue for me is that the refresh rates are just too high. Barely any game is going to push 240 frames at 4k even with a 4090, and having tried the 540Hz PG248QP at my friends house, I couldn't tell the difference between it and my 360Hz monitor.. Hopefully LG or someone releases a middle ground 120Hz 4k & 360Hz 1080p, not being able to utilize the full refresh rate on a monitor would just be too frustrating for me and considering the hardware to run at those frames won't be out for another year at least, it just seems like a novelty feature that you can point your finger at saying that you've got it.

I have this below a 42” LG C2 oled for video editing and color grading with the bonus of having an incredible gaming setup. Built in color calibration is really nice, using my i1 display pro makes this monitor very accurate just make sure you go into advanced settings and use the max number of patches. Matte display is NOT an issue on this monitor people saying so don’t own it and aren’t using it next to a glossy screen. The pixel layout is so much better for text, it’s really a relief to not have color fringing around text! All around love this monitor, I think it’s the best for my needs and I would 100% buy it again!

I'm absolutely going to get one of the 240hz oled monitors. I probably won't get this 480hz dual mode, I really don't see myself using the 1080 mode at all, but the oled and high refresh rate upgrade from my current 4k monitor is going to make an enormous difference.

Would be amazing to see some of them reviewed in your quality standards. Sending regards from Slovakia ❤

Might get this. Seems pretty solid at what it's trying to do. Not sure I'm patient enough to be waiting for the 39 or 45 inch 5K2K 21:9 version, that might even not have dual-mode. I like playing immersive single player or more on the relaxing coop games too and then 21:9 is ideal so long as I can set a 16:9 mode for competitive games. Ideally by now ultra & superwide screens would have Picture By Picture with no downsides so one could play 16:9 with a long sidescreen for whatever when desired, but they still halve the refresh rates in PBP mode for some reason. I really thought we'd be further along now. I remember a dual-mode 4K-1080p monitor was implemented and sold as kits as far back as 2017 by the engineer Zisworks as a hobby project. The industry is very slow at adding conveniences that are already well figured out how to do.

I really hope this feature becomes standard across more of LG's 4K monitors. Even if it's just a bump from 4K 60 up to 1080p 240 that would still be awesome. I'm not a resolution snob in games but I prefer 4K for the desktop experience so I can use scaling for super sharp text and video. I would love to be able to switch over to 1080 mode for gaming and get the higher refresh rate and higher frame rate by dropping the resolution. It's just such a great idea and totally makes sense to do on a 4K panel with the way the pixels naturally scale.

This can be done with a lot of high refresh 4K monitors. I had a 4K 60Hz monitor that I could overclock to 120Hz, but only at 1080p. I have since tried it with a few friends 4K monitors and it seems that cheaper monitors are capable of this whereas higher end brand names like LG or Samsung aren't capable of this (I'm assuming it has to do with the on board software). The best results I got were on a 4K 144Hz screen that gladly ran 1080p 290Hz, with a temp difference of about 3c measured with an IR temp gun at the hottest spot on the back.

Still too spoiled by my LG C2, 42" 4k OLED @120 Hz. The size is perfection, glossy, the colors, HDR, everything is immaculate, and 120hz is a perfect happy medium with no noticeable competitive performance decrease in games. Will wait until they come out with an OLED at 240hz or so at 40+ inches. Great too see they're heading that direction quickly with PC features! Awesome review.

This 4k 1080p thing is actually really cool:D u get almost double the pixel density and you could also roughly half the viewing distance and still see the same sharpness level like 1080p 24inches because every mm^2 has ca. double the pixels. Right? I would love to see this on a 27inch monitor. That would be insane. Native 4k on 27 inches for story games and like upgraded 1080p for shooters with immense fps on a more suitable size for that.
