From the review on Android Authority's website, this is not a joke: "LG prides itself on keeping its phones extremely lightweight, and the V40 continues this trend. I like denser, heftier phones - they give me the sense I’m actually getting value for my money - but I can appreciate the engineering that went into making the phone so light. Sure, this is extremely subjective, but this is a review, after all. I like my phones heavy." Yes, he actually said: "I LIKE MY PHONES HEAVY" This makes no sense! Cell phone makers have put an enormous amount of R&D into making phones as light as possible, as well they should. Light phones feel better in the pocket, because you can forget they're there - heavy phones weigh your pockets down. And let's not forget HOLDING THE PHONE IN YOUR HAND. Who in their right mind wants it to be heavy? The last thing we need is reviewers from major review sites saying they want heavier phones.

the v10 (with dual front cameras) and v20 have the original notch, but it is on the top left, allowing uninterrupted use of the space next to it as a very useful second screen, instead of in the middle like todays phones. My V20 has finally recieved it's Tmobile 8.0 update, it's first update 2 years and 2 months after it was the first phone that launch with android 7.0 and stayed their all of that time, LG and samsung are the worst for OS updates with Tmobile. I think I will keep the V20 longer too. I love the ir blaster for remote. the removable batteries, no glass on back, much more durable phone, true 16/9, and most of the audio features of the V line. And the wide range of extended battery options that keep the usb c port open, and listen to good headphones and charge at the same time, and unlike apple the best quality hd bluetooth codecs. I will not buy any phone without a headphone jack and sd card, LG or otherwise. I was surprised LG did not put a larger battery in or start at 128GB storage and 8gb ram standard. Or upgrade their OLED panels, since they are now making iphone XS OLED panels. The point zoom and cinema modes are way to cool , like the wide angle, however if looks like the camera software is not finished. I think LG should have added different focus sensor for the telephoto than the wide and normal, however sofware may be able to fix that, asking one sensor to focus three lenses at the same time is a bit much. Slow mo and HDR video recording should be great as well as the best manual mode. But $1000, are they kidding? That is too much for Samsung, Apple and LG. It almost seems like the LG was released to increase sales of the LG G7, which is a great buy at $699 compared to $1000 phone and aside from Sony 4K has the sharpest screen resolution wise.

I was really holding out on buying the note 9 because I thought.... Look at the g7 and v35. Both of them have 2018 specs. So if this v40 comes out.... New updates for the camera helped with most of the blurring issues on the telephoto lens. Best 32 bit Hi-Fi quad dac available hands down. Memory should have carried over fro S. I know that it so those LG, which is why they call both second display. When LG was first accused of copying apples notch with the LG G7, they correctly said we have been doing this well ahead of apple. The lg v10 and v20 are the fist of the recent notch phones, I own one, if you ever change the brightness or change the display after it is broken, you will see that is true. the Sharp S2 beat the essential phone, than the essential phone and than the iphone and others, it is not something to be proud about. Apple's innovation was the thin chin at the bottom and adding microsoft like ir to face id for better security, not their copied notch. LG simply moved their notch to the middle like the Sharp S2, Essential phone and the iPhone, to only give apple credit for the notch or blame is simply being dishonest or misled like mpst of the media who give apple credit for everything innovative.

One possible correction: you refer to the third rear camera as a 2x zoom - isn't it actually fixed focal length 50mm equivalent lens with a f/2.4 aperture? Also, regarding the apparent softness, only the "regular" camera has OIS, so, what you might be seeing it a little camera shake, since a 50mm is going to suffer more from your involuntary movements than a wide angle lens would. The wide angle really shouldn't need OIS, except for video, but LG should have included it on the 50mm. Looking at sample photos of the same subject, the 50mm looks pretty sharp, but possibly it is either softer in the edges, or maybe does have a little finer depth of field than the other cameras do, given the effect of using a 50mm focused on a subject that's quite close. The depth of field will naturally be thinner in that case.

Should I go for this or note or op? Does having quad dac makes a difference in budget earphones? Both LG Samsung don't give os updates. But op doesn't have dac and that s-amoled screen! Really confused!
@theundead16006 жыл бұрын
The screen looks as good as a galaxy 9. The music through this phone, especially the quad dac. After going from the s8 + its running nice. The manual camera is sub par. Due to the manual mode in the s8+ is all manual while the v 40 you need to switch cameras to get to other controls. As far as worth. It so far has more customization then the s8+ is nice, the audio is far better head phones or not, the video recording is beautiful, the video reproduction is great as long as the source is good. As far as how the ui is. I was a samsung guy since the instinct. This v40 has been simple to get use to and learning how to use the same functions just meant learning the way lg and google want it phrased. Its been a great phone for know and i got mine on sale for 500. The only bad i have to say is battery. Since the screen is so nice i do keep it on the highest resolution. So maybe if i took advantage of the battery saver it may be a bit better. But it is a smaller battery. Have a good day .

I've made a tactic of buying phones. I bought my G6 for £200 used and the G5 is £120 used if I wanted to buy one. If the trend stays the same im hoping in like 8 months or something (I bought my phone like 4 mths ago) I might sell my G6 for £120 and grab a G7 so that would be an £80 upgrade (assuming trends stay the same and I will be able to get a g7 for £200 used)

Oh look, another phone with a notch. This is the reason I just stopped waiting for future phones and bought the Note 9. Even though I didn't want a big phone, now that I have it, DAMN is it an amazing piece of hardware. Can't wait for February for the S10 anymore.

Yeah they should have put like at least a 3800 milliamp battery in there. they probably need to link up with a camera manufacturer to improve their software for their camera as it seems to run very slow. I think with a really good software update and maybe LG maybe needs to look into some software optimization for applications and some things that might differentiated even more I would have liked to have seen the earphone speaker used for stereo although the Boombox sound is nice I think we're in an age where we're all hoping for stereo speakers.

Best part of LG phones os not only they continue with most dated technology hardware ,a 3.5mm headphone jack but further enhanced with quad DAc . Wired head /earphone are way better than wireless phones . Lg will sale there phones on this unique feature alone and 80 %people like earphones every now and then .

V30 with the same 3300mah would last me all day. Im a heavy user. Sd 845 is efficient, and lg has a better software optimization than Samsung, so it would be even better
@fightbackphonescams26826 жыл бұрын
Check the battery test. Note 9 only got 1 more hour more than the V40. On full brightness with WiFi on, the V40 lasted 9 hours and Note 9 lasted 10 hours. Kinda embarrassing and disappointing that fat battery that increased the weight and thickness didn't give that much more juice. Makes you wonder if it's actually a 4000 mAh in there... FYI Samsung still uses the slow Quick Charge 2.0 and LG uses the faster 3.0... charging to full from a 4000mAh is going to take 4-5 hours.

And if you care about price/performance the LG v30 from last year is even better. Better battery life, no notch, perfect size. And you can find it for ~400$. It "only" has the snapdragon 835. But that's still a very fast chip...

I like the camera preview option. I think I may wait for the LG v45 update. Is anyone really paying full price for phones? You just put down 100 or 200 dollars or trade in a phone and then pay 30.00 a month to lease any flagship phone. I don't even know why phones still have "price tags". At Sprint you can get the iPhone Xs 64GB for free right now so 0.00 a month!

About the price : if the same exactly phone was Samsung Huawei or Apple thes it would cost 200+ euro more. And then no one would say that this is expensive . I also dont understand why no one says about the sound and especially the boombox. this is the most amazing feature of my G7
@Tigerex9666 жыл бұрын
Wow, that was one of the most negative preproduction phone previews I have ever seen, even a price review is it worth it compared to other $1000 phones was included. Remember the iphone 5.8" 64GB has no expandable storage, no headphone jack, no fingerprint scanner, 2 less cameras, inferior stereo recording,, much smaller but better screen, much higher repair cost, no fast charger included, smaller battery. No headphone dongle. I definitely would like this vs the 5.8" iphone review once the software is final, to see which one is worth the $1000. I would say neither, even the note 9, which is perhaps the best ccurrent phone overall is not worth the $1000. The one+6 is getting there though, and possibly the LG G7. Remember carriers inflate the price so they can add it to payments and make more money, the unlock MSRP price from the phone company is usually the real price or lower.
@DavidImel6 жыл бұрын
This is final software. I'll pass on the vs request 👍
