11:11 "It's why I found the concept of Final Fantasy weird as a concept, since it meant new customers might feel like having to go through 30 years of lore, and returning customers may not feel rewarded for the amount of time they have put in the other entries" - uh, what? That 2nd part, I get. But that first part . . . what? I mean, each Final Fantasy game is totally separate from all the rest. That's the core concept, that any new player can learn rather quickly. Why would, upon learning that, would anyone feel compelled to have to learn about other entries, when each is meant to be playable on its own, and is self-contained?

I think he met really new players who literally didn’t know that each FF was a stand alone game. They might see the high number and think they have to play 15 games to understand what is going on. Although, I am not sure those people still exist.

I disagree with what you said about Deus Ex’s New York level. You do know Deus Ex came out in 2000 and it wasn’t feasible to have a sprawling metropolis or skyscrapers in a 3D engine without having to sacrifice most of the fun of the level. This was a technical limitation of the time which only got better with the release of the GeForce 3 and programmable shaders a year after Deus Ex came out.

Great video. Human Revolution and the original Deus Ex are 2 of my favorite games.

One of the better RPGs of the previous generation. Hope the studio survives the Avengers plunder so they can keep the Deus Ex franchise alive.

I think you fundamentally don’t understand Deus Ex. You should play the OG Deus Ex again in a completely different way than you did before. Take your time. Consider a stealth character with training in pistols, low tech, computers, hacking, and lock picks. Try your best to pretend it’s 2000 and save your brother Paul this time on your second visit to New York.

it represents misunderstanding, or unwillingness to understand, the source material, and the early 2010s need to replace depth with artistry and pretentious messages about societal issues that don't exist in real life. that and putting a huge chunk of the story in a DLC

The problem with HR's bosses is that most of them are invisible bosses. There are few things more frustrating than an invisible boss.

Do you have much to say about Mankind Divided now that it's released?

I really want to get into The Witcher and Deus Ex. What should I play first? I will play all three Witchers, but I am not sure which Deus Ex games I need to play. The two newest ones of course... and the original, I guess?

Go for Human Revolution first, since the original has a LOT you need to take in.

I think you should only play Human Revolution and Witcher 3. They are the most complete games of each series and represent the series at their best. If you're compelled to experience other entries in those franchises, play Mankind Divided and Witcher 2. Only after those, if you're still craving for more play the first games as they are pretty archaic and dated both mechanically and technically. The stories of both are great, but at this point I'd recommend to just read the stories or watch a recap video.

@@K1LLeRc0ck HR represents the series at it best? it's a great game, but it's kinda like a fanfic for the first one in terms of experience.
@K1LLeRc0ck5 жыл бұрын
@@wrathchild7218 Yes. Like I stated in my previous comment, in my opinion the original games are pretty dated nowadays. It's still good though especially with the revision mod, as are many others. But without nostalgia I don't see it topping HR for a new player like the op from a gameplay standpoint. Deus Ex was great and still is and remains an important game for the industry but its mechanics have been refined in other games to the point where it isn't really relevant to play it anymore unless you're interested in the genre's history. Thief 2 to me is the pinnacle of immersive sims, and I also recommend playing that one.
@wrathchild72185 жыл бұрын
@@K1LLeRc0ck gameplay and graphics may be dated, but its charm is eternal, it hits all the right notes which HR failed to hit, but i get you, it's a cult classic, you either love it or you are not interested at all. and i would recommend you to play the GMDX mod, it's way superior to revision IMO.

great video but I do disagree with you on bosses. I think a stealth player SHOULD be punished when faced with a boss fight. it makes your augmentations matter more. you need to think what happens if i am cornered. I cannot always stealth away my problems or hack them. A figher build should have problem sneaking away and avoiding fights the same way in the open areas, there needs to be balance.
