Great videos Herbie and very informative, but as I watch yours and others videos regarding oil changes on the 200/250cc Lifan engines, no one measures out their oil in advance! In the US we use ounces, but 1.3 liters is easily converted to 1300 milliliters or its equivalent, 44 ounces US. HD sells 2-1/2 quart paint mixing buckets labeled in liters and ounces. I use one for draining the old oil into so I can check oil consumption or metallic debris, and the other for measuring out, in my case, 1.1 liters or 37 ounces of oil. This way I'm assured of the absolute correct oil quantity as specified by Lifan. Hope this info helps.
@herbiesgarage6812 ай бұрын
@@Kevin-mm6xm Thank you, the problem with using measurements only is that you never fully empty your crankcase oil. If you drain your oil and add the book value of oil to the engine, there’s a possibility of adding more than required. I find that the sight glass or dipstick is the most reliable. Over full can be as damaging as under full. But I do understand your point and if it’s on the full mark after measuring it out and running the engine then letting it sit then that would work also. I always rely on sight though because most engines use a little bit of oil although it may be just a tiny bit. Thanks for the information 👍🏻
@Kevin-mm6xm2 ай бұрын
@@herbiesgarage681 My KPX 250 manual states 1.1 liters oil, 1.3 liters if engine is empty of oil. In other words, in a brand new engine without ever having oil, use 1.3 liters. If doing an oil change, use 1.1 liters.
@Kevin-mm6xm2 ай бұрын
@@herbiesgarage681 Sorry, got cut off! So at least in the KPX they are taking into account the oil left in the engine. I would assume that when referencing an oil change, the amount of oil listed would be what is required taking into account what is left in the engine already.
@herbiesgarage6812 ай бұрын
@@Kevin-mm6xm Okay Thanks, point taken but I would still visually check it : ) Now when I do a car transmission fluid change, I measure what I take out then put fresh measured fluid back in, sometimes they don't even have a dipstick to check the level. If I measured the engine oil in my bike, I would still check the sight glass or dipstick, that's just me
@Kevin-mm6xm2 ай бұрын
@@herbiesgarage681 Of course you need to check just to be sure! But the point is, put in what Lifan says then check it! It should be right on. And in my case there is no sight glass on the KPX 250 as you know so its by dipstick only.

Great, concise video! I'm very impressed with the attention to detail on the Lifan engines. MOST small 125cc to 229cc only have the oil screens and no paper filter. Did you say that car oil can cause effects on the engine? I didn't understand what you said, but since I put new oil in my bike, sometimes when it's cold or I shift to 1st gear too quickly, or if I'm not gentle enough with the clutch, it turns off the engine. Thanks for the videos! Really useful!
@herbiesgarage6818 ай бұрын
Yes, some car oil has friction modifiers added that is bad for motorcycle wet clutches and will make them slip. It’s a good idea to stay away from car oil in your motorcycle. You might need to adjust your clutch cable sounds like. Your welcome

@ Hello, 10w40 Jaso Ma2 will be perfectly fine in the Kpm 200. I would change the oil 1700-2000 km if it were me. Could you kindly tell me the grade oil used and type? Seriously considering getting this bike and I've studied your excellent videos and you do a nice job explaining everything... I didn't catch the correct oil to be used here, would've helped a world if we saw the bottle
@herbiesgarage6817 ай бұрын
I’m sorry about not showing the bottle, many people have strong beliefs on which is the best oil, I try and stay out of that debate. What I use is Rotella T4 15w40, yes it is a diesel oil but it is high in zinc which is an anti wear additive along with other things and it’s also Jaso Ma/Ma2 certified for wet clutch operation (motorcycles). But the oil is your choice what to use. You should strongly consider this bike because it’s a great value for the money. Lifan builds quality bikes and the KPM is so fun to ride, I look forward to riding it every time I can. Good luck with your decision, let venom know that Herbie sent you 😁

How do you compare the durability between Lifan engines and other Japanese bike engines like Honda? How much of a difference do you think there is?
@herbiesgarage6818 ай бұрын
Hello, It is really difficult to do a direct comparison between the Japanese bikes and the Lifan bikes because there just isn't too many similar models, so anything I say will be purely speculation and my opinion. One that you can use is the Honda Grom versus the Lifan KP mini. Both are great bikes and both have great reliability. Those little bikes are usually run pretty hard and people report that the KP mini holds up well. I have seen on posts that the KP mini has thousands of miles with nothing more than regular maintenance. I can report that with the 3 Lifan bikes that I have that the quality seems to be really good and I haven't had any real issues with any of them. I had a small oil leak on my KPR that was repaired easily but that's it as far as any issues arising so far. Hope this helps
@thegreatoutthere8 ай бұрын
Did you know that the "Japanese" manufacturers no longer build most small engines? Honda, Kawasaki, and Yamaha along with Triumph and KTM all outsource engine production to Thailand, China, Phillipines, or India. Of course, ALL the manufacturers rely on China for their microchips, wiring harnesses, and other small components. The fact is, Chineese manufacturers like Lifan can afford to provide BETTER quality control (including dyno testing EVERY engine) than the "big brands".
@herbiesgarage6818 ай бұрын
@@thegreatoutthere Thanks for that information, I knew some but not all of that. I know Lifan has impressed me with quality to cost factors. Thank you for the comment 👍🏻

@@Haven_wayRBLX I ordered all my bikes from Venom motorsports and all of them came with oil. I even ordered my first Chinese bike from a different company and it came with oil in it. Is it possible to take off the leather strap on the gas tank without damaging it?
@herbiesgarage6818 ай бұрын
I think that you can, although if a person was going to do that it would probably be best if it was done right away so that the sun fading won't show marks where the straps were. I actually thought about taking them off too but the more I own the bike the better that I like them, It sets the bike apart from others as this is something that you don't see very often. No cookie cutter here : )

You can, I did it but be aware that you'll have to change two or three screws or add a spacer because they are meant to get tight with the strap beneath them. If you tighten it too much you'll start to pop up the gas cover.

Owners manual states 10w40 motorcycle oil. The oil must say it’s JASO MA/MA2 certified oil. That is for wet clutch application which is what your motorcycle has. If it says it’s for motorcycle then most likely it’s good. I wouldn’t use synthetic until 500 miles minimum
