When I was in my 20's I was selfish and it was all about me. Now I'm in my 50's I have learned to treat people with respect and grace because you really don't know what someone is going through.

Thank you for sharing that. I’m 27 now and have been obsessed with saving for a house, retirement, a car, emergencies, vacations, etc. Right now there are so many things I could save money for, but I’m trying to focus on being grateful for what I have. I am fortunate to be able to save for the life I want, and I want to do better about giving more to those who are less fortunate.

I wish my 20 & 30 year old self would have had access to a Ramsey plan! (I’m now 66). While I did have a few people tell me about the importance of saving (which I did eventually) and setting aside $$ for retirement . . I had no one to show me How to budget appropriately to ensure those things were Top priority. How to sacrifice. While I’m “ok”, I would be in a much better place now if I would have had some deliberate instructive guidance!!

I was studying business in college in the late 90's and watching financial news reports for some reason. Two things I keep hearing was: --Max out your 401k asap --Invest in the Internet since it is the future. 47 years old now, and life is so good! Thank You so much to my younger self for paying attention and actually following through with the advice!!

I had three kids starting at 24 when my career was barely getting started. We were so broke and then my youngest is severely autistic and kind of broke us for a while. We (and she) went through hell with no sleep, destruction, therapies and constant stress. She is now 10 and I’m 39 and I wish I could tell myself it gets better and she gets happier. On the money side I would tell my past self to keep working and that it gets better in the future.

Rachel do NOT feel bad about reclining your seat! You paid for the ticket and like you said the seat reclines. Enjoy it!! I’ve had the person in front of me recline and I deal with it!! I think it’s rude for people to say your not supposed to recline. If you are so tall and don’t want the person to recline their chair that’s on you, book a first class ticket then and get all the room you need! Don’t make someone feel guilty for using the seat like it was intended.

To Rachel’s point about figuring yourself out in therapy. a life as a Christian or with a faith in someone/thing other than yourself where you learn to be content because of your faith helps you along that path also. That’s my experience. You two are a great pair!! Love this show!!❤

I flew A LOT for work. I would recline my seat EVERY TIME! And pretty much the second we hit cruising altitude. Like you said, Rachel, the lean back is like 2”, if you’re lucky!! And that’s how the plane is designed! I might put it back up if an actual meal was served, but not for snacks.

I have an Eagle Scout and a Girl Scout. My Eagle worked very hard to complete his requirements and we are proud of his accomplishments. However, Girl Scouts is about more than cookies. My Girl Scout camps, travels, volunteers and does just as much as son did with his troop. As with any program, you get out of it what you are willing to put into it.

There's an equivalent to being an Eagle Scout and that's the Girl Scout Gold Award. 2 of my 3 children (now adults) were Eagle Scout and Gold Award scouts. There's lots of good benefits to becoming one! They both joined the military and had 1 rank higher right from the start because of that.

I was once on a long very early flight (like 8 hours) and as soon as we boarded the girl behind me put her knees up against my seat so I could not recline at all. She stayed that way for most of the flight. That was way more irritating than someone in front of me reclining.

From a financial perspective, I wish I understood the power of compound interest and learned to invest at an early age. At 64, I have a shorter runway so being debt-free and continuing to save seems like the only option. Otherwise, I wish my younger self took more risks professionally. I was scared to start my own business so I continued to follow a traditional career path and it wasn't until I launched my own business in 2020 (at age 60) that I realized I could be successful on my own.

GEORGE!!! THANK YOU!!!! I almost always read labels, but I was in a hurry in Costco and saw Liquid IV on sale. I’ve heard several people who normally promote healthy things refer it, so I just bought it. I love the taste and have been so glad to find another (what I thought was) healthy electrolyte powder. I immediately went and looked at the label when you said it has sugar…11g!!! That’s ridiculous! No more Liquid IV and I’ll make sure I read the label from now on. Thanks!!

Saving early has a lot more value than I realized. In college I spent what I had and figured I’d make more money after college so that $2000 was nothing. But that 2k in a Roth would 100x by retirement.

I’m with Rachel on the airplane seat thing! They give you the illusion of comfort and then can point to the Inconsiderate Passenger as to why someone is feeling squeezed but it is really the design of the airplane seats to maximize passengers. But if they do the logical thing and take away that little button, people will only have the airline to focus on. This is a cruel psychological thing, akin to putting candy bars a kid height in the checkout line. Look at the reaction in the studio. That is 100% intentional on behalf of the airlines

So I had to watch to see if it’s someone hitting a stack of papers on a desk but I couldn’t see what was causing the noise (happens 4 times between 38:30-39:15) - it’s very startling in the car!

The 20s were hard because you don’t know where exactly you fit in in life, you’re busy trying to establish yourself as an adult and in some kind of career, and George is right, money doesn’t seem real to someone in their 29s. That’s how kids get into student loan debt, car debt and credit card debt. They think that’s what they ‘should’ be doing.
