I think I would like living in Paris if I had the chance. I live in NYC (born and raised) and I noticed that when people talk about New York, they are really just speaking about Manhattan which is only 1 of 5 boroughs. The outer boroughs are completely different both in housing options and pace of life. My lifestyle is very quiet and slow paced compared to what most people would expect. I think the outer boroughs offer more of a sense of community and real New York culture, whereas Manhattan is for people who are living out a “Sex and the City” fantasy and don’t plan to stay for too long.

I agree! I live in downtown Brooklyn and what she describes is my life in Brooklyn. Community, I know my neighbors and shop owners, quiet, diverse. Thanks for pointing out the fashion differences. I love French fashion, as you said, it’s chic and effortless. Love how French women carry very natural make up. It’s all about skincare. I do love the edginess of NY fashion though and urban fashion especially black folks have their own thing going on over here in Brooklyn. I think I see more “diverse” fashion in NYC. There’s a wider spectrum in my opinion. Food wise, in Paris you will find more African and Middle Eastern food. In NY you will find that in addition to Latin American food. You would be hard pressed to find a good Mexican restaurant in Paris or Europe in general. You can find them but they are mediocre IMO. Other thing, the service in NY restaurants is significantly betterthan Paris. Paris is such a beautiful city but the vibe of course is so different from NYC. Both are awesome in different ways.

Thanks for your stories! I've been living in NYC for 2 years and Paris for three months over a summer. I prefer Paris! Architecturally, I think Paris is a much more stunning city. I also relate more to the deeper appreciation for the simple things in life. In Paris, you also have easier access to other neighboring countries, which is a short flight or an easy train ride away (Belgium, Switz, Netherlands, etc). While U.S. is vast and diverse, and you can still explore the Northeast by train or car from New York, it's simply not the same as visiting a new country.

That 5 weeks of vacation in your first year working in Paris, gets me every time, lol. I love New York, but don't think I could live there with the fast pace. Besides the common language, I think Montreal probably takes after Paris in that it has all of the amenities of a big city, but a slower pace of life. When I do finally get a chance to visit, I think Paris will definitely be my preference.

I lived in Manhattan for 38 years but, I prefer the Parisian way of life. For starters, whenever I am in Pairs, I come back 10-15 lbs lighter and looking 10-15 years younger. My hair grows like a weed and is shinny and my eyes even change color. I never watch what I eat in Paris. Love Paris- I would be happy to live in a small town in France if not in Paris. Love pretty much everything in France. This Latina just feel so comfortable with the French. Tif, you are so lucky to live in Paris. Be healthy, happy, safe and, prosperous! You are just adorable!

Paris is not one of them. A lot of people want to visit Paris, but I'm not one of them. I've been to a few cities in France, but you've got Paris covered and I enjoy your perspective! I'm heading back to the States this summer and am very much looking forward to that. After having lived in Asia and Europe for the last 10 years, American city life is calling me. I look forward to living in South America and Africa some day in the future. Keep up the good work and "Grüße aus der Schweiz!".

Yaaaasssss Hair. LOVE! Thanks for sharing. I've always wanted to live in Paris. I currently live in NYC, so this video is spot on. NYC is the only U.S. I would live in. I'm originally from Texas, and have lived in DMV. I love the energy and diverse culture that NYC offers. I've always said that if I were to leave NYC I would move to Europe. No shade to other US cities, but once you've lived in NYC everywhere else is a step-down. Not a bad thing, but very different. Some of my New York friends that moved out of the City, because they we're tired of it, have all moved backed. They energy here is undeniable. It's far from perfect, but the opportunities out weight the imperfections. That said, as I get older I'm getting more and more interested in moving to Europe. Paris is my # 1 favorite European city. What are your thoughts on personal security in Paris. Paris gets a bad rep for personal security. I would argue that NYC gets the same rep, and I totally feel safe here. Funny, but I feel uneasy when I go to other cities here in the U.S.

Triggered New Yorker here (Brooklynite to be exact) lol....even in Manhattan there are many other nice parks aside from Central: Riverside Park, Madison Square Park, Hudson Park on the lower west side, Morning Side Park..that’s just off the top of my head and not even going into the other boroughs. Also that fast paced, go crazy life style is more of a corporate style of work life...I’m a government employee, have great benefits such as 4 days work weeks and amazing discounts for leisure activities, lots of time off and a comfortable wage which allows for financial stability. I also drive cuz with 2 going on 3 children, the trains and buses just ain’t it! Parking is not always easy or cheap but it worth the comfort of private travel....also after only 2 years there’s no way you’ve “seen it all” cuz I’m born and raised here and still discover new Gems all the time, Hi Queens! I live in Nashville right now but also lived in NY and compared to the prices in Brooklyn they’re practically the same and places are not small at all. I lived in Paris for couple of months and I can confirm that the prices are the same but apartments are half of the size. I love both Paris and NYC but I guess Paris can be more expensive because you actually make way less money but pay a lot for a tiny place, it’s a great experience if you’re young and student but if you want to start or already have a family living in a tiny flat is not the best option.

Cost of living not totally agreed. Median net income in Paris is about 2,000 euros vs New York City $4000 . The rent is a bit more expensive in NYC but not as much the gap in incomes. And even at the same proportion it will still be a bit more money left for a New Yorker. More opportunities in NYC too, economy is so stuck in France, at least for the French. As foreigner you may more opportunities maybe..

/I visited NYC summer 2015 and I loved it , never been to Paris before . My family visited both NYC and Paris. We are Arab Muslims so my mom wear a hijab (head scarf to cover hear hair) .unfourtunately people in Paris are sooo racist and rude to them, my sister get harased and attacked by old french woman just because she wears a hijab, a woman verbally attacked her and called her a terrorist. they faced racist when they ordered food or a coffee, the guy in the cashier insisted that they order in french and not speak eenglish ( they don't speak the native language). most of the taxis that white french men drive refused to accept the ride just bc they are Arabs and Muslims. Paris is a beautiful city but I think NYC is way better, both in the attractiveness of the city and the people. I saw a lot of hijabi Muslims in NYC, my mom visted NYC in her honeymoon and she did not face any racism or discrimination whatsoever. New Yorkers are nice, maybe they are always in a hurry but in general, they are waaay nicer than Parisians. Also London is better than Paris.

It really depends on your experience and the industry. You should check on glassdoor, it is generally pretty accurate. Overall if you take into account the benefits (such as the fact that you health expenses are 100% covered, a full pension plan is included as well as 5-6 weeks of paid vacation each year) salaries would still be higher in NYC than in Paris, but not by a huge margin. And then there is the exchange rate. When 1 Euro was worth 1,45 Usd at some point, salaries were pretty much on par. When it went down as low as 1,05 a few years ago, not so much any more... Today it is about 1,20 dollars for 1 euro.
