Did Life Reappear? Mini Ecosphere

Life in Jars?

Life in Jars?

Күн бұрын

It's been four months since water was added back to this mini aquatic ecosystem. Has that been enough time for life to reappear in this tiny jar?
Enjoy!

Have you considered doing a jar with mixed seasons? To be fair, this would take several years of planning. Get small samples of Winter, Spring, Summer, and Autumn. After letting each stabilize for a year or more then dumping them into a medium/large jar!

Youd think all of the ingredients, being the same elements, would turn into the same thing as they are in spring or autumn sitting in water. Snow would just be water, leaves would just be waterlogged leaves, so unless he refrigerates it, itd be all the same.

i was looking at water from my backyard pond in my microscope today, and i found this half heliozoan / half ciliate that despite these structures, jumped like a flea! i was so darn confused and i had no idea what it was. i think its okay to not know what things are, but i also think its a good idea to document things you dont know. i wrote down everything i observed about this organism, and im glad i did- moral of the story: its okay to admit you dont know something 👍 you can still learn from these experiences

I’ve just been binging your videos, do you think when an ecosystem becomes stable it may be a good idea to introduce some kind of ‘disaster’ to it in order to change things up? When there’s major extinction events on our planet it leaves niches open for new creatures. It may be interesting to see the same in a closed terrarium
@blizzardkiehn2508

I like the idea, but the creatures that would fill the niche were probably outcompeted beforehand due to the limited size and diversity of the jar. Also, no evolution.

Last year I made 2 tiny echospheres in bottles but one of them didn't took off and the other one got overtaken by fungi and all plants and organism died with the exception of algae and some white/orange fluffily mold that grew on a piece of wood... I am assuming the moisture level on the 2nd one was too high. and on the first one was too low. I left both bottles by my window garden and forgot about them for almost a year Bottle number 1 had a tiny growth of algae on the side and a lot of condesation on the bottle. bottle 2 was completely overtaken by a layer of algae 75% of the soil is a green blob with the exeption of a tiny corner that lets you see a layer of water settled out into the gravel layer and the fluffy mold had little hanging strands like you see in the jungle... I guess at this point they both achieved humidity balance but they where "sterile" as in no plants or visible micro organisms where around. So I inoculated them both with some top soil to see what grows on my tiny worlds. after typing that long winded rant, i came to the conclusion you need a discord for us to share with you what you inspire us to make. (btw this time I got weeds growing and I've seen spring tails on one of the bottles.)
