I have worked with dementia patients in the past and it's interesting to see that when the dementia gets worse, more memories from when they were younger come up. The things that happened 2 hours ago are nowhere to be found in their memory but when you ask them about how they met their partner they can tell you all about it. You remember things the best when there's emotion connected to it. Something that made you happy, sad or angry. Brains work in mysterious ways :)

@@roofogato I have the opposite issue. To cope with trauma I just forget everything that bothers me, which is mostly anything to do with society. I forget what day it is, what time it is, what I’m doing, where I’m going, etc. I can recall thousands of factual things, like processes or procedures. What does pain feel like? I don’t remember. I remember I’ve felt pain, but what it is? Cant recall.

it is because bad memories are flashbulb memories. so like how the flash of a camera's flash "burns in" into your eye these memories are burned in. I know this is not the best way to explain but I tried

the better version of this question is why do they just come up literally at the most random times. even when it's not necessary

Takes me FOREVER to remember names and faces unless the name is super unusual. Sometimes I'll see a familiar face, and be like 'HEY! I remember you! Umm... what was your name again?' The interesting thing for me regarding memory, is that due to getting away with multiple excuses during childhood, one of my favourite ones being 'I forgot', as an adult now, when it comes to chores/being asked to do something I don't want to, etc... I genuinely forget to do it. It's like I accidentally trained my brain to forget about things I don't want to five seconds after being asked, or I tell myself I'll get to my laundry later... then I don't end up doing it for several days. Slowly trying to train myself out of this.

I find memory is difficult to organize… imagine you are trying to recall something specific, without any catalog system… ya need to associate memories with focus terms. I am a contractor… I can NEVER remember customers names, but even slight reminders about their home, and all details about the customer flood in. It’s weird… decades ago, a little hint about the place, and boom… instant recall about all the issues ever performed at the place…

a study ive read 2 months ago showed that we dont forget memories that were created at one point. these nerve groups/cells/clusters etc., just remain there silent, like a book stored in a very big library. i think that finding has value cus i also remembered the game where a song came from, after listening to it for a couple of seconds 2 months ago. and i havent played that game for 15 years and i know for sure that i havent heard that song ever since then. then there is the fact with 2020s knowledge that forgetting is good, too. so it shouldnt mean: "forgetting bad" , but rather " forgetting is an important function". of course, that doesnt make dementia less real, or not paying attention to something, if you have to create short term memories during problem solving or something
@domomitsune5920 Жыл бұрын
I love the fact that my brain remembers I forgot something, but doesn't remember what I forgot. So now I'm looking for something I don't know what I'm looking for. And those inconvenient brainfarts, where you're about to say something or you had something on the tip of your tongue just suddenly disappears and now everyone's looking at you weird trying to wait for you to say or respond to something. Good going brain malfunction when I need you for something.

We have a 2.5 petabyte SSD, with 2 gigabytes of DDR9 RAM, fast, but unreliable and deletes things very quickly. High rate of data corruption, and the compression-uncompression causes massive losses in data. Maybe a dual core, 6 thread i13 or Ryzen 9000 series processor. We're a pretty powerful beast, but with a lot of reliability issues.
