Lifting One Another - Go Gossip Free

In an address at the Vatican recently, Pope Francis spoke out strongly against what he called the “terrorism of gossip”. The Pope compared talking negatively about others to “tossing a gossip bomb and walking away.” He stated that gossiping distances communities and does not bring us together. So despite the latest research that shows that gossip may be a “natural process” of social animals, it may not jibe with our highest values and aspirations. Here are 5 basic rules that could convert the “bombs of gossip” into the bricks that can build a stronger community and will help you to truly “Love your Neighbor” as yourself.

My sister has demonized me for years spreading lies about me. Her gossip is not even in the realm of my reality. But, has really just caused me problems in the community. Oddly, when I divorced, she actually told me that she was going to tell people that I slept around. Which, I never did. That I am a prostitute. Which, is beyond ridiculous. That I am carrying a diagnosis. Which, I never had. And on and on. Bully is right. She still tells people things that I supposedly say. Despite, the fact that I will not and have not spoken to her in years. But, I also found, prior to my divorce, and by our phone bill, that she had been speaking with my ex husband an hour nightly. She had also met him several times out of town. Apparently, she had to cover these tracks by demonizing me. Yet, years later, she continues to harrass amdbully me from a distance. Please, address the means to stop these things.
