I realize that this may not be of any use now in 2017 but I am a youtube guy. It is my main way of staying in touch w/ the world. Dr. Sproul was a fellow Pennsylvanian and was the single best teacher that I have had. I can never repay him , but I know he would not want to be repaid. He would want me to firmly rooted and a solid Christian with excellent Theology. Thanks to the Lord and his servant R.C. I believe that this is where I am. I can't wait to meet R.C. in heaven.

I consider myself extremely blessed to have come to Christ when and where I did. I was surrounded by Christians with good doctrine who turned me toward teachers with good doctrine, such as Dr. Sproul. I never got mixed up with the wayward evangelicals and the like. Btw, The Holiness of God is sn amazing book that I recommend every Christian read. I wasn’t saved whe R.C. went home, but I still learn so much from him. Look forward to meeting him someday.

There is no saving me. I feared I was not in the elect and now I feel more than ever that there is no hope for me. I want a relationship with him but if he doesn’t want me idk what to do now. I’ve spent hours a day listening to these godly men trying to learn I’ve mentioned to every Christian I know I want to find a church and not one of them has invited my wife and. I’ve begged Jesus to send me someone in my life that can mentor me and nothing has happened yet. In my deepest heart I am not going to give up though.
@JesusIsKing844
@JesusIsKing844 Ай бұрын
Brother, the doctrine of election is not meant to give us hopelessness but to give us assurance and to glorify God, it shows that God is ultimately in control, giving us hope, and that we could do nothing of ourselves so when we inevitably as believers see that we have nothing to bring we are not without hope. Also it may not have been your intention but you saying “there is no hope for me” and “there is no saving me” is completely undermining God and the atoning work of Christ on the cross, which I mention not only so you are aware of the error but so you can be reminded of the fact that there is hope and salvation on offer. It is true that according to Scripture God is sovereign, but Jesus also says “Come to me, all who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest…” which shows we have a choice as well, like a “yes, and…” instead of an “this one or that one”, which is the mystery of salvation, that God decides but that we also decide and are held accountable for our decisions. Jesus also says that if we knock it shall be opened, so if we want to believe and we want Jesus so much to the point that we are willing to sacrifice everything including our sin and if necessary even our physical lives for Him, we will have Him. There have been many times where i didn’t “feel” saved or “feel” loved by God or “feel” God’s presence and I still do to this day, but I KNOW these things because I believe God is who He says He is and I believe that when God says “whoever believes in Me shall not perish but have everlasting life,” He MEANS it, and i know that my feelings and how i feel on any given day has no bearing on reality, that because i have the very things i must have (being faith and fruits of the Spirit) for my conversion and as proof of my conversion and regeneration, respectively, i know for certain that God has chosen me, and has made me both able to and willing to believe in what I believe. So to summarize, you are not too far gone, there is hope and salvation in the person of Jesus Christ and His atoning work, and if we believe in Him and believe in His promises, both good and bad, that He is the propitiation for our sins and that apart from Him we die, then we will be saved. As for finding a church, that one is harder, but honestly this life is completely irrelevant on the scale of eternity so if i may be admittedly very bold, might i suggest moving to a state that has a good church like Ligonier or Grace Family Baptist Church and attending in person (i’m aware this is a HUGE ask but seriously this life IS completely insignificant and irrelevant compared to eternity seeing how 80 years isnt even a trillionth of a percent of how long eternity is, and if we don’t do everything in our power to give others the hope that lies within us then we are wasting our time and not bearing the fruit Christ demands us to bear before He returns)

At 21 minutes the ability to follow God and do what God ask is something that I mentally struggle with. R.C said that man wants the benefits without the relationship. I argue with that fact that Gods hand has the responsibility to give me that ability and desire in my heart to seek him because I know that my flawed self cannot. RC is answering every question I have pondered my whole life. I struggle with the fact that God has designed us to fall and has designed us to love him. How can I choose him if He denies that ability through me sometimes? It comes to choice and when choice is between self interest or loving God. What I do not like or enjoy is the fact that self interest overrides my ability to love God. I absolutely cannot stand that piece of me but that piece of me is how God designed me for the choice of the matter that I have the responsibility to choose him. I know and read that Paul struggled with this choice and also when I read about Christ temptation he did not struggle to choose God. I appreciate Gods creation of himself in human flesh to overcome the world but wrongly rebuke it sometimes that He did not experience sin but only on the cross when he took mine. I am thankful he did this but I seriously wish sometimes that God would always give me the ability to overcome but that would give me the divinity of Christ to not need what he did on the cross and the empty tomb. I guess my goal sometimes and what has been contemplated for ages since the fall, is that I want to be independent from relying on God to make personal choices and I can’t possibly do that and live. Then the cycle continues where I then place the responsibility on God to give me this ability to choose him in every situation. I do not like to fail God but he know that I will. I dislike having to say to him I screwed up when I place this responsibility on him to not allow me to screw up. I am human and I have to accept this as his divine plan and that I ALWAYS need him no matter what.

At 28:55 GOD is spoken of as having a Glorious Plan of Redemption. The way I picture this truth is to imagine GOD as being a playwright or a movie script writer, director and producer of a Glorious Story that spans the earth’s ages and ends when this universe ends. The cast is made of angels and humans and it is a drama that depicts GOD as knowable to man. The basic story is already sketched out in Scripture and you and I and everyone has already been given a part to play. Some will be heroes and villains and some will be there just for atmosphere or special effects. But whatever one’s role, GOD wrote us our part before the earth was created and we came in on cue! What a Mighty GOD we serve!!

Here’s where I have trouble “seeing” and “doing” which is living a lifestyle that puts ALL MY trust and faith in Christ alone. Do you see how conceptual this phrase is? What does that LOOK LIKE in daily LIFE is what the gentleman wants to know and I want to jump through my phone screen and say “this way”. .. read the Gospels and imagine Jesus was saying things like “Follow Me” to you personally. What if he said something you didn’t understand? Well, since He’s not here in the flesh, you can just sit down and ask the Holy Spirit to make things clear. Just get alone and have a conversation-that’s all that prayer actually is anyway. Ask Him what you should do and then do it without complaining if you can. Remember He’ll supply the things you need to fulfill His requests. If you do well, He’ll praise you; if not, He’ll tell you the plain truth and you’ll do it better next time. You’ll never feel alone because you are not alone.

I think the idea of "soul", "spirit", and "spirit being" should be made clear. What then is our "soul" that goes to God immediately upon our death? Or is it our "spirit" that goes to God? If our "soul"/"spirit" is already with God, then why do Jesus have to come back bringing his "gift" to the elects? And what is this "gift"? Is this "gift" the gift of immortality, or our resurrection from being flesh & blood to immortal "spirit being"? Or is it our mind the "spirit" that goes to God upon the death of our body? Our mind that is like the PC hard drive that contains the total memory of the person's life experience -- thus, every deed and thought of a person will be known on judgment day?

St.Paul : in Roman's 3:10 states the fact which Jesus explicitly affirmed in John 6:40 'no one CAN come to Me, unless the Father Who sent Me draws him/her' Still St.Paul affirms in 2 Cor 4:4-6 that the mind of unregenerate man is 'blinded' by the god of this world ( Satan), SO...as I understand Paul at Mars Hill among the Stoics, when he writes in Acts 17:26,27.../27 particularly, the description IS of a blind man 'groping'. That fits with the fact that every human has a conscience/ a moral compass AND as St.Paul writes in his 1st chapter of his letter to the Romans, that the 'invisible attributes OF God...are clearly perceived' through general revelation in nature/ 'the things that have been made' So, I think, St.Paul in his gracious wishfulness, knowing that God is Rich in Mercy, is affording to all men the plausible exception that God may, Freely of His own good pleasure, add one more soul to his elect. And knowing all that St.Paul wrote, Jonathan Edward's is ALSO, in his gracious wishfulness, inviting 'all men' to place themselves in the best position possible 'to see the light of the glory of the gospel in the Face of Christ : go to church !

As a catholic in reference to the Mary question I would respond the reason why Jesus was born with out the stain of original sin is not only because he is God but because his mother was preserved from the stain of original sin by God so that she can be the pure unstained God barer and the pure unstained ark of the new covenant
@JesusIsKing844
@JesusIsKing844 Ай бұрын
Jesus is the new Ark of the Covenant, a man i saw put it much better than i so I’ll just paste it here: @BasedZoomer: “…Jesus in the hypostatic union carries the bread of life (His flesh), the Kingly authority of Aaron’s staff (His Kingship), and [instead of the tablets of the Old Covenant,] the blood of the New Covenant (His blood). All carried within His body! And in John 20:12 when Mary Magdalene went into the sepulcher weeping, she looked in and saw ‘two angels in white sitting, one at the head, and the other at the feet, of where the body of Jesus laid.’ Those are the cherubim of the Ark, at the head and feet of Jesus. (Also might I add, John’s goal of writing his Gospel account was to prove Jesus was God, and he very intentionally kept these details in to show Jesus as the new Ark to prove His deity, so we shouldn’t say Mary is the Ark because it detracts from the Bible and the deity of Christ! Also i added this part, it’s not in BasedZoomer’s comment) He is the New Ark. Not only does He carry all [of] the aspects of the New Covenant, He is the New Covenant. And, like [BasedZoomer] mentioned, it brings so much more meaning to the New Ark that people were able to be close to Him and touch Him. It shows the true closeness of Immanuel.”

So what do you do if you don't live within driving distance of a bible-based church? I'm in the hills of highland Scotland surrounded by liberal theology, social justice churches and all the baggage that carries with it. The closest baptist church has only one service a week, sermon is 20 minutes max, music is very loud and pop band, and no prayer meetings . No one around me ever talks about Jesus. People talk about their "faith" and how it helps them through life....

Alexandra I have a similar problem. We have no choice but to teach ourselves with the aid of the Holy spirit within us and read our NKJV or KJV bibles by ourselves. Occasionally I get to speak to people at work or my wife about true Christianity but for the most part I am alone with God on this. Better to be alone with God than popular with Satan and his seed. If you want to listen to some solid Baptist preaching listen to pastor Steven Anderson of faithful word baptist church. Very very Bible based and a no tolerance stance on anti Christ ideas. I am not with him on the trinity as I don't and now never will believe Jesus is God but I am with him on nearly everything else. May Jesus bless you and your family, Christopher.

Joshua Theo Yes there are Free Churches but the closest one to me is an hour away so I don't know if I should sell up and move to that town. Because I have no church family or close Christian friends, it is hard to find sound advice on this. I emailed Alistair Begg about this two years ago and never received an answer. I wrote a letter to Sinclair Ferguson a year ago and also did not receive an answer. It's a difficult one! Meantime, I long for Christian companionship and fellowship and also being a member of a church family.

How do you explain Rev. 20:4-5 on the first resurrection of the dead? Is this figurative or literal?
@sasharaj
@sasharaj 3 жыл бұрын
Could it be that the first resurrection of the dead is when we -- who are born in sin and spiritually dead -- come to believe in Jesus and are born anew, born again, becoming spiritually alive? We go from dead to alive by the work of the Holy Spirit and are therefore alive in Christ: our first resurrection is literal.

So was Dr Sproul saying its not enough for Jesus to have paid for our sins because though that would cleanse us back to being like Adam in God's eyes pre fall but without his imputed righteousness then when we sin post salvation we would have just returned to our post fall state without his righteousness being put into our accounts? So that the moment we are saved, we have already reached the finish line so to speak?

Truth is so lacking in the church today. Truth takes a backseat to the pursuit of "building relationships" and "loving others". How can we truly love others and build relationships if truth is not at the center? I once heard someone say "The facts dont care about your feelings". The truth is offensive to some but its necessary for healing and growth.

He was always Triune He never split, He was always the Son because He was predestined before the world began to become a Man (without ceasing to be God nor diminishing the divine nature of the Son) and to be crucified, and thus has always been the Son because He was always meant to have flowed out from the Spirit and unify His nature with the nature of man in the Hypostatic union

Definitely some people seek God, even the apostles of Jesus were earnestly seeking for Jesus the messaiah before they became the apostles of Jesus, if you are seeking for the messiah that you know is a God-sent, it means you are also seeking for God because the messiah will teach you about God.. When God said no one seek after God, no not one, what He meant is no one seek Him and obey all His will, but because man is a fallen creature inherited from Adam no man can obey all the will of God...

My understanding was always that every woman had the ability to carry the sinless savior, as even Eve thought she might have done. What made Mary unique was that she believed and was in the right place and the right time to be the Messiah's mother. Further, my understanding is that the man's seed brings the sinful nature. Woman's seed vs Man's seed that brings life to her egg. By some process we don't understand or know, God gave life to Mary's egg. Is this wrong to think this?

If you want a blank DVD, it is probably about one dollar. When you purchase a DVD that contains music or teaching, it cost money for producing it in many different ways. In the case of Ligonier Ministries it is not the normal cost but helps to support the ministry. I am sure you are smart enough to understand that.

I think one possibility for Jesus being born without original sin is that God miraculously gave Mary a divine seed and at the same time temporarily removed the curse from her during her gestation period and the birth. I do not know if God has DNA but if we could examine the DNA of Jesus I think we would see either DNA from Mary alone or DNA with aspects that have never been seen in any other human.

Contradictory verses in the bible: Exodus 20:8 vs Romans 14:5 Exodus 20:12 vs Luke 14:26 Matthew 19:26 vs Judges 1:19 False prophecies in the bible: Ezekiel 26 Ezekiel 29 Joel 3 19 Isaiah 19 Isaiah 17
@Psalm146-2

Exodus 20:8 “Remember the Sabbath day by keeping it holy.” Romans 14:5 “One person considers one day more sacred than another; another considers every day alike. Each of them should be fully convinced in their own mind.” There is no contradiction here, only misunderstanding on your part (which is true for any scripture you think is contradictory). When God created the world He gave all mankind the Sabbath day to establish a pattern of work and then rest. But when Jesus came that pattern changed, because Jesus has brought that ultimate rest to us. So we begin with rest, and then we work out of that rest. I didn’t look at the others you mentioned because the larger, more important, problem is that God has not opened your ears to the truth of His words. Until He opens your ears to the truth you literally cannot understand the Bible - you will find many, many things confusing. It would be like if you were janitor and you picked up an advanced electrical engineering text book - you could read the words with no problem but they wouldn’t make sense to you because you have not been “enlightened” as an electrical engineer. Instead, if you truly want to know God, start with the premise that the word that He gave us (the Holy Bible) is inerrant and humbly ask Him to help you understand - ask that He would open your ears to the truth of His word and pray that He would give you a willingness to embrace His word. Right now you are in essence calling God a liar by saying that His words are wrong - we don’t have that option as sinful human beings. By the time you read this I will have said a prayer for you.
@JesusIsKing844
@JesusIsKing844 Ай бұрын
First isn’t a contradiction, Jesus is the embodiment of the sabbath day, being the rest for our souls, therefore we don’t break or contradict the 4th commandment. Second, I can tell you googled this one because it is obvious Jesus doesn’t mean to literally hate them but to hyperbolically hate them as in if you do not go as far as to love Me so much that it looks like you hate them, then you aren’t worthy of Me, which is supported by when Jesus says to love your neighbor as yourself. Jesus was not saying to hate your mother as He Himself didn’t hate His mother. Third one is easy, cross reference verse 2 and God calls the tribe of Judah a he instead of a they, as was common practice, so its not saying He couldn’t as in God couldn’t, but as in Judah couldn’t. As for Ezekiel 26 I’m assuming you mean the verse that says “you will never be rebuilt,” let me ask you this: if you nuke New York City and completely flatten it, then build a little hut in the center and call it New York City, is that rebuilding New York City? No it is not, that is calling a hut NYC which is what the people of Tyre did when it was destroyed. As for Ezekiel 29, I don’t even know what you are referencing, Egypt was captured and desolated and they did move back, all of what was said there happened, Egypt went from basically ancient Dubai to just some country. Joel 3:19 did happen, Joel was prophesying before the events in Ezekiel 29 happened, and Ezekiel 29 expanded on what would happen and said that the remnant would return and it would not return to it’s former glory. I feel as if with the previous two I already addressed Isaiah 19. As for Isaiah 17, same with Ezekiel 26, they got destroyed, they came back with the remnant, and built a hut and called it Damascus. The church has been around for 2000 years, and do you really think that not one honest theologian went “hey everyone here’s a contradiction we’ve been wasting our time” if these were so obviously contradictory and without alternate explanation and theologians study the Scriptures so closely? This is totally pointless the Bible does not contradict itself anywhere
