Another wonderful video which stirred so many thoughts and imparted so much information about Italian tobaccos that I was unfamiliar with. Early on you brought back a memory from my school days (a staggering 60+years ago).I was living in the north of England and our history teacher was telling us about Hadrian’s Wall. I said to him how awful it was for those poor Italian soldiers to be subjected to the rigours of our northern climate (like your poor Olive Tree!). “Not so” he said “their letters home reveal that they really liked it here”. I have my doubts to this day.

Splendid video! My girlfriend’s father is Italian and her neighbor is German. They have a wonderful friendship. It’s always an enjoyable time when we all get together for dinner and drinks. I’ve often thought about what an ideal neighborly relationship they share. Maybe that German heart still beats for Italy in America

Italians and germans get a trusting sense of security among each other. I can't point it out so clearly, but it is quite the universality if you as me to tell. Distinct and consistent

Beautiful tree! You might consider trimming the “suckers” the new young branches at the base of the trunk, they “suck” nutrients out of the tree and won’t produce fruit. It’s a common trim for trees, beautiful garden.

Thanks for the hint... already thought about it... but I'll give him some time to recover first... and do the trim... Thanks for taking the time... and be well! Mark

Hi!! I m a French Smoker and this video is very interesting I ve smoked Comune, Forte.. And it s no "similitude" with caporal.. I often smoke caporal scaferlatis red ( there's cigar leaf in it) but nothing to compare with toscano The special size of a toscano was "made" to cut cigare in two to share with friends I often cut a extra vecchio cigar to smoke it pure in a pipe A good stuff but tough!! 😊 Toscanello are lighter in nicotine But toscano pure Kentucky is a great experience Great video as usually Be well Joël

Hi, Mark. I always look forward to your videos. Yeah, so my pipe club in Long Island, New York, meets every month at a cigar lounge (Maxi's). They don't sell much pipes. And, the pipe tobaccos they carry has been there in the cigar humidor so long that the tins are actually rusty. All the good stuff was picked through maybe decades ago. So, in appreciation for letting us meet in their lounge, I always purchase a cigar there. Usually a Dominican Fuente. And, many times I bring a cigar blend pipe tobacco. Most of those have Latakia. A couple don't. Like, the Warped lineup. Now, I am super curious about Italian Kentucky. Thanks for the introduction. Hope too see you here again, soon.

Hello Mark my good friend! Glad your olive tree made it through the savagery of winter! There were many connections between Italy and Germany throughout history. Perhaps the most important...or beginning of this connection was with Charles the Great and his Carolingian Renaissance, bringing the idea of the Holy Roman Empire to western Europe once again, and his desire to unite the Germanic tribes and territories. Interesting history, between Italy and Germany...thanks for that! Generous package from your friend ...all kinds of good stuff. I really enjoyed the Toscanello cigars you sent me, really intense flavor, which like you, I normally don't go after. Take care my friend...we'll talk soon! Corey

Germans love Italians but don't esteem them; Italians esteem Germans but they don't love them. Funny stereotype that just scratches the surface of an incredibly deep and complicate love relationship. Like Germany, Italy too is very different from north to south. Whatever it is, it works ! Just traveled through Germany, starting from Donau river spring(s) in an attempt to follow the river till the end in Romanian-Ukranian border. And I'm in deep love of German countryside, and people too. Same feeling in the past decades in Berlin, Bremen, Munich and wherever I'have been. Like it happens in Italy, or France, or Spain (you name it), the longer you travel the more you feel the privilege to be European. Thank you for your dedication, Mark, and your entertaining videos. Please keep up.

Wonderful seeing you again! I apologize that it has been so long since I last watched your. Especially, since I love watching your videos. Anyways. How your dad is about fixing up a place where he would stay. My dad was the same way. German (Grindle), and he never stopped fixing up something. He passed away 2 years ago at the young age of 68. He worked on the railroad after the Vietnam War. He was constantly building or fixing something. He even built a house for him and my mother. That Italian pipe you are smoking is absolutely gorgeous! My most favorite pipe to smoke is my Savinelli Octavia. Again, always love your videos and I try to keep up! Take care my friend.

My son took me to Italy, and I also love that country and the people too. I didn't know about cigar tobacco used in pipes. Interesting and practical idea. Italian pipes are neat. However, after your video on Vauen pipes, I had to get one. I really love that pipe. I wondered if you'd ever make a tamper out of olive wood and you did. Stay well and thanks for another nice video.

You don’t insulate a tree like your body by covering it up, because your body releases heat and you trap it by covering it, but plants don’t release heat so simply covering doesn’t help unless you take the cover to the ground where you can capture some ground heat. When you put the heat around the roots you should of adjust your upper plastic so the heat could rise to the top of the tree…

We Europeans have been fighting each other for so much time that we can't help being brothers, in my opinion. I am convinced that we will enjoy our brotherhood in a more peaceful way in the future. We've already started. And it's not true that we respect you Germans but don't love you. We secretly do :-D As to pipe tobacco, I'm not a big Kentucky fan. But there's something I like very much, like many Italians. This is what we call the "tosco-virginia". I can say that this is the true Italian mixture. You take your favourite Virginia and mix it with some crumbled toscano. Cimette Tornabuoni are perfect for this homemade mix. Press them with a pasta press or pollen press, let it rest for a couple of weeks, then crumble again and smoke it. My favourite mix is, guess what, a German Virginia, Hal o' the Wynd made by K&K, with 15% of "antico toscano" (you see, we Italians and German can do great things together ;-)). Smoke it and, I assure you, that will bring you under an olive tree in Tuscany, or Sicily, or whatever.
