great video! I'll be typing this today to dye next week :). I prefer to tie damp ,then soak in soda ash, then let it dry. I used the method you do for awhile but the soda ash really took a toll on my hands. thanks so much for the detailed video, can't wait to see how mine comes out!

Yeah as long as it's gets ashed so the colors bond it doesn't matter the order. That's just how I've done it for decades & works for me. :) Good luck with your dyes!

Yes, but if you prefer dyeing damp you can mist your tied items up with a spray bottle filled with pre-mixed soda ash. I know it's pretty debated among dyers but I this is how I've done it for years & I just get better dye control when dying dry.

where do you buy the tread you're using? What is it exactly?

It's called sinew and you usually find it with leather crafts in hobby shops or order online.

I would personally love to know where you got those syringes from. They seem pretty ideal for dying the eyes and other details, and the rubber/silicone grips look like they would make them easier to use.

The actual syringes are pet supply kind; the other is a turkey baster with the tip filed off. It gives good control over the dye flow.

How do you get the dye to come out of your sink? I did a magenta and now my sink is pink 😂

Get some foaming bleach spray (pump style bottle) for bathrooms. Spray it on, let it sit a few minutes & it should rinse away. If dye is not gone- do again & give a little scrub.

+lilgamoma thanks! I read somewhere to use rubbing alcohol it lightened it but didn't completely remove the stain. I guess I could have tried bleach 😂

+Red Green I know but it was what I first heard it called in lots, more commonly know as, etc...we had a debate on the title of video but went with the more know to make it easier for ppl to find.
