i have been listening to this song since I was a child. I am 53 years old, now. Maggot Brain has always been my favorite song of all time. I am really picky about who covers it. I have never heard a version that I liked outside of the original. Even when Kidd Funkadelic plays it, it is to fast. The faster you play it, the more you kill the emotion. Well, this lady understands this song. She knows it is all about soul and heart.....not technical ability. It is a song that reveals the inner-quality of human existence. Ms. Haydn, great job!

Feel you, i was 16 and Maggot Brain was inside the One Nation album. It was about 6 of us in a friends room smokin'. The room went deathly quiet. I saw things. I see them whenever i hear it. I saw them listening to this.

Eddie Hazel used to put a crazy amount of relief (bow) in his Strat necks knowing they would play stiffer. He felt he could only say everything he wanted to say with a guitar if it was fighting him a little bit. But I don't like this cover of the song or any cover of it for that matter.

I get what your saying man i really do but have you seen mike mccready of pearl jams version. Personally my favourite cover and honestly i might like it more than the original. obviously im not putting hazel down in anyway as hes the genius who created this masterpiece i just feel as though mccready manages to capture the exact same emotion and for some reason i tend to come back to that version more than the original.

This cover is probably the closest to the original, even though it's on a violin. She has managed to capture that dark and indescribable feeling of Hazel.

@@felixplaza823 since shes not playing an electric violin and it's only mic'd it's more likely the mic is being run through a wah pedal so the actually violin isn't being wah'd but the sound of it going through the mic. But yup if its electric and has a cable you can definitely run it through any sort of effect

This song was created in the studio when Parliment Funkadelic George Clinton, surrounded Eddie Hazel with speakers and told him to play as if he just heard his mother died. Lili Haydn captured that sorrow

The first half is "Imagine your mother is dying" the 2nd part where it sounds super intense is "Now imagine your mother HAS died." The music is like a conversation of everything he wanted to say and SHOULD have said/ but missed. I can't believe the classic they got from the method used.

She used her incredible violin skills to do a cover of one of the most iconic, emotional rollercoaster rides of electric guitar tracks ever recorded and she absolutely killed it. The violin is probably the only instrument that can produce the same emotions, the sadness and the love and power as the electric guitar. What a wonderful job she did bringing all that out. Eddie Hazel is in Heaven giving mad respect and love to Lili for showing her respect to him and his musical talents.

@@saigonproducer ---- Art is subjective. I'm not saying your opinion is wrong, but I don't think I personally could pick one guitar track, or solo, or bass groove or drum track, or song and say it is THE best. There are too many different styles, and genres, to say that one is the best. I think it would be limiting one's self to think that there is nothing better than one of anything. Especially music. Or any art for that matter. I appreciate your reply, seriously.

this is by far my favourite version of my favourite song of all time. Words simply cannot describe this beautiful artistry being put on display for us to witness, experience, appreciate, and vibrate with. This is music. This is art. This is life, death, rebirth, and the entire universe. This song in particular speaks to me in a way that is so mind blowingly, soul resonatingly, impossible to describe. If music resonates with your soul like it does for us, you'll know exactly what I mean and I feel when I say this. This isn't JUST music, this is a spiritual experience, and I whole heartedly believe it and value it as such and

As I was listening to this, I noticed that many of the notes she was playing had a Wah-Wah sound to them, and I immediately asked myself how in the hell that could be, when she is playing a violin ? Well, upon putting on some glasses, and then watching the video very closely, I could see that her violin was plugged in to a Guitar Amplifier, and in between the connection of the violin to the Amp, she had plugged in a Wah-Wah pedal. Now, that's what I call Genius !

Greg Perez --- you have to listen to Maggot Brain by Funkadelic, the original track with the man , Eddie Hazel, who is the original guitar player on this amazing song. Lili does an incredible rendition on the violin in this video, but the original track and there are a couple live recordings that Eddie Hazel takes the listeners on an emotional rollercoaster. His guitar playing is among the greatest of all the rock and r&b and funk legends that got way more attention and fame. And if you are still getting high, I recommend getting high and listening to Maggot Brain a couple times then again when sober. LOL

I agree, the unwinding cadence of this piece brings you to your knees. To have a woman play it makes all the sense too... As it builds, you raise yourself and look to the Heavens. There IS a purpose, and the Great Mother watches over us all. ❤

I bought the album cosmic funk when it came out in the early 70s because March to the witch's castle and I'm a true lover of maggot brain just turned 50. Thanks the song . Love it 50 years. Thanks to Lili Haydn for a second helping now I have both and I love both. I start every day with a dose of Maggot Brain George Clinton turned 80 the same day Maggot Brain turned 50 years old

I saw this for the first time about 4 years ago and it still amazes me. I've never seen a wah on a violin and I've never heard a violin cry so much. This is truly a masterpiece

What a wonderful rendition of this Funkadelic Classic. She knows what it's about. Like George Clinton ever asked Eddie Hazel: i want you to think of the worst thing that couldt happen to you. Like the original, this rendition of Lili Haydn brings tears to your eyes..
