I'd say the latter group has a much stronger stance than the former. The former presupposes that the prevailing politics in societies throughout history have always been "good", so good people wouldn't criticize them. That is obviously not true, and the Left used to realize that and be the strongest proponents for free speech on the political axis. Once they achieved power, though, free speech was revealed to be not a fundamental value of theirs, but rather a tool which could be thrown away once it became a liability. The current development of the left is quite disturbing. We should not for a moment believe that modern society is safe from political corruption akin to the one we saw in Communist Russia and Nazi Germany.

How can anyone describe Lindsay: an honest, genuine, civil, intellectual, and responsible girl as a "hateful white supremacist transphobic devil"? She's a pleasure to listen to and hear about. Glad her story went viral. it's absolutely deplorable for a university who should uphold these exact aforementioned values to alienate her as the example of what they don't want you to be-- a free thinking individual. I hope the Canadian gov't, schools, and public come to their senses in face of this wholly deserved global backlash. This outrage isn't transphobia-- this isn't racism, sexism, hate speech-- whatever they'd like to believe. It's about the ability to express yourself, seek the truth, enlighten and innovate. Principles that are (for the most part) undeniably desired. We are holding an entire generation back by trying to be 'tolerant', it didn't work (or at least stopped working), it's time to move on.

Rollo May: The opposite of courage in our society is not cowardice, it is conformity. Communication leads to community, that is, to understanding, intimacy and mutual valuing. Depression is the inability to construct a future. It is an ironic habit of human beings to run faster when they have lost their way. Hate is not the opposite of love; apathy is. The relationship between commitment and doubt is by no means an antagonistic one. Commitment is healthiest when it's not without doubt but in spite of doubt. Courage is not the absence of despair; it is, rather, the capacity to move ahead in spite of despair. Freedom is man's capacity to take a hand in his own development. It is our capacity to mold ourselves. Human freedom involves our capacity to pause, to choose the one response toward which we wish to throw our weight.

Her mind is as gorgeous as she is. It's almost unreal what the debate has come to in this generation. Things like science, biology, free speech, the basket of values that made up the enlightenment, it's all being done away with by these boneheaded followers of Derrida and his ilk. You just have to stand back in awe, shake your head in disbelief as you utter... "wtf"

Honest thought is not without a price. You must define yourself by YOUR OWN ethical views, and refuse the labels. Seek truth and wisdom...You will achieve great things. You are not alone in this pursuit.
