I'm in STEM field for almost two decades. The company I belong to is pushing very hard with equalising men and women in our field. My company is using meritocracy in yearly employee performance evaluation for many years. Recently, with gender inclusion and equality, I've witnessed a lot of political move to promote more women. Now, as a woman, that's awesome. My problem with it though is that clearly some of the women who were being pushed for promotion are clearly not ready yet and everyone in the closed-door performance evaluation room knows it! I tried to speak out for a peer of that woman (a male) for promotion and iterated what he has done which is clearly more valuable, but I got shut down. This invalidates all the hard work of rising to the top by women like me for many years in STEM field. If I get promoted to the next level next time, now I have a doubt if its really about the good work I've done for the past year or is it just because I have female parts in between of my legs? So no, in my opinion, equalising the outcome is not good especially for those women in STEM field who tried their very best in rising to the top of their game.
@markwith140 Жыл бұрын
Well said. People in general regardless of gender, race or whatever should be treated equally. People should not be promoted to fulfill a quota, but because their performance deserves it. To do anything else degrades the person, is not good for the business and potentially promotes resentment in the workforce in my opinion.

And that is not only in gender department, but also in other stuff like the level of intelligence of someone (which degree/qualifications they have). Can someone explain the difference of equality of outcome and oppurtunity
@edwardpinder56343 жыл бұрын
@@riob7119 equal opportunity would say that if two people have the same skill set ie one man and one woman they will have a completely equal opportunity (ie likelyhood of success in interview) when applying for say a nursing job say (Jordan would certainly agree with this). Equal outcome would say that there should be 50% male nurse and 50% female nurses in a hospital (Jordan does not agree with this).This is because if you took 1,000 men and 1,000 women, a higher number of woman would want to go into a caring profession such as nursing. This is partly environmental, but also partly genetic. If you tried to equalise everything in the environment as they have tried in Scandanavia more woman would still want to do nursing as this is a genetic trait. So paradoxically if you decide equal outcome is essential people will have less choice at doing things they actually want to do.
@rclakmal3 жыл бұрын
@@riob7119 JBP explains it well in the video. But sure, let me give a try. Equal opportunity ensures that regardless of which groups you belong to as an individual, you are provided with the same rights and the same access to the opportunities. For example, say there are 10 vacancies for a job in a company. Regardless of your gender, race, sexual orientation or what not, you are eligible to submit an application in order to be considered for the job. Equality of outcome is about prioritizing the group identities. Your group identity takes the primary focus and your individual character takes the secondary focus. So considering the same example above, if the company wants to ensure equality of outcome, they will select the 10 hires according to the proportions of numerous groups in the population. If women account for 50% of the population 5 vacancies should go to women. If 30% of the population are from the minority race, 3 vacancies should go to the candidates from that race. If 10% of the population are gay, then at least 1 gay person should get the job. Equality of outcome completely ignores the individual capabilities, social, cultural and biological contexts. It simply talks about quotas. Quota for women, quota for colored, quota for gay, quota for this and quota for that. It is a never ending catastrophe, which could result in right person not getting the opportunity. Plus if you are an individual in a group, which they think that deserves a quota, even if you did get the job solely based on your merits, you will think of yourself, and will be labeled within your peers as a quota entry, which is highly unfair, yet cannot avoid as long as we practice quotas. If you are a girl, You wouldn't want to be a "girl" engineer. You would just want to be an ENGINEER.

Souls aren't real. Your value is your merit and ability. These are physical and mental characteristics. Some people are really smart, but are in a wheelchair. Some people are really strong, but dumb as bricks. Expecting Mike Tyson to be as good a physicist as Stephen Hawking, Stephen Hawking to be as good a boxer as Mike Tyson, or women to work as hard and be as strong and capable as men, is retarded. Equality isn't true of men, and it isn't true of women either. Percentile for percentile, men are better than women at damn near everything. And thanks to traps, we now know that "damn near everything" includes being better at "being women". There are biological differences in both the body and the brain that enforce gender roles and your biology doesn't actually care if your chosen politics find that problematic or not. You can get on board with it, or you can fight it and lose. That's why the gender roles exist. Women are emotional and manipulative and seek dependability and resources and commitment because they raise children, and those skills make them successful at it. Men are strong and responsible and logical because they have to take care of and provide for the family, and those skills make them successful at it. A woman's decisions and opinions don't need to be right, because when she's wrong the man fixes it. So she can be irrational and still raise children. But a man has to be competent, or his role as provider won't actually work, because there's no double-man above him to bail him out. The buck stops with him, which is why the man is the head of the household.

After I got my bachelors in physics (with astrophysics) I didn't go into it further because I didn't want to be fighting an uphill battle for the rest of my life, being viewed as "lesser than". I found some writing that I "wanted it" on the desks in the lecture halls, and even though I came top of Advanced Quantum Physics (shocking!) I just couldn't be bothered with the shock and awe that I faced everywhere that I studied physics and was a girl. A few years later I got a masters in clinical research and entered the life sciences industry which is filled with women. I have worked with 90% women ever since and I never feel out of place or like anyone is judging me. But I'm still aware that I was a more capable physicist than the vast majority of males on that course.

I absolutely believe what you say, and am truly angry that you got the way you were treated. Men in the workplace can still act like jerks, I suspect that you could still have risen up the ladder if your work had warranted it if you had stayed. Cream rises. As a young man I was treated similarly by women when I worked in a work place where I was the only man in a female dominated workplace. It needs a more balanced workplace, bur that still needs to be based on merit. Workplace impropriety needs to be addressed at the same time.

When was that? Personally given the affirmative action type of policy for the past decades, particularly past few years, when a woman or a minority excluding Asians got the job or won the highly contested scholarship, I wondered is it because of equity policy? That kind of mindset of course hurt women and minorities who got there by their own merits, but how an outsider knows, given so brazen equity policies. Like the SP 500 companies for the past three years only 6% of their new hires are white in a white dominant country.

My mom worked incredibly hard, building her business from the ground up to provide for her family. It was her dream to stay home and raise her kids, but as it turned out, she was always torn between providing and being present. Equality is having autonomy to choose your life and to be valued by society. It isn't about which gender makes the most money. Feminism in its current form is selling a bad deal.

It's not fair to say that particularly women are the ones to stigmatize men for being nurses. Some do, some do not--depending on the kind of person. Some men do it too. Conclusion: People, irregardless of gender, have a lot to say about other people. One could either choose to be affected by it or ignore the stigmatization. Same applies for girls in STEM fields. Trust me, they ignore all those barbs that come their way.
@AIenSmithee3 жыл бұрын
@@SeldomPooper Don't get me wrong I don't feel that the idea that women are stigmatised is what holds them back. I was merely pointing out the initial comment sounds like that argument reversed. I guess what I'm saying is that I don't agree that sexism is holding back men from being nurses. I think there's more stigma as a man saying you're a car salesman or parking inspector than a nurse. I just don't agree with the premise that men are stigmatised by women for being nurses. That does not sound right to me. Therefore, it makes sense when I say the reverse that is women are stigmatised by men for being in STEM. There is one difference though, men are taught to take rejection better than women generally. Therefore the few men that might scoff at a woman scientist would be more affective (generally) to discouraging woman than the reverse. It is ironically what is great about women. They are more conscientious than men meaning they care more what others think.

@Hello Bruh You thought 100 pound, 5 foot 2 girls would be good working in an extreme challenging behaviour unit restraining grown men that can flip out at any second that punch, kick, bite and headbutt? They are not their mothers so that "motherhood instinct" doesn't exist in this setting. What does exist in this setting is them shouting and screaming every time for help. Also lets say that you have an extreme service user that can display for 14 hours a day, that is extremely physically strong that requires 3 people to be around him at all times and you are put with two little girls for 14 hour shifts a day. Lets take the other day for example where the girls couldn't hold him down and let go of a restraint 12 times in 5 minutes leading to him sitting up and biting my neck area. Luckily I was wearing a hoodie and he only manged to bite the cloth but that could of been me done for. Something happens like this weekly. I have been threatened with sexual discrimination because I brought this issue up with my manager. What few men work at my job literally just run around all day saving these girls from being fucked up.

On the surface that would seem like a good arguement. but i can imagine already that her response would be that they are just fallling into the stereotypes that are forced upon them. Part of the reason that their arguements still live on despite the evidence pointing the other way is that they can easily disregard the evidence. The point in the video above where this is most obvious is when Jordan said that the Scandanavian countries are trying it and failing. She responed by saying, well they aren't there yet. She like all the equality of outcome supporters has built up a huge repository of arguements and counters that bypass the evidence. It makes them very difficult to effectively debate on short interviews because you dont have time to pull apart each arguement. but if She were put against him in a longform debate, I think it would be much easier to tear down her arguements.

@christophersurnname99675 жыл бұрын
chambo1010 Yeah, we’re investing so much focus in pushing women ahead because they’re “disadvantaged”. How about some attention to males from low-socioeconomic backgrounds to reduce incarceration numbers?? That’s a more clear-cut pressing problem to me. Then the feminists will say “but they choose to do crimes”... but don’t women “choose to do lower paid occupations, degrees, hours, etc”?? Then they’ll say “yes but that’s because of gender-normative social pressure etc”... okay “what if that’s the case for low-socioeconomic male felons “... feminist: “but they choose to do crimes”... me: “okay but why”... feminists “because they just do”.. me: “no, be fair, you have to give *some* reason/s”... feminist is then logically cornered to say either male biology/hormones, or social conditioning/pressure for lower-socioeconomic men, or some combination. If they say biology, then that’s straight up hypocrisy, since I say biology is a reason women make lower paid career choices (ie having kids, working less, for “female” careers etc), OR if they say socio-cultural reasons, then that’s the same argument they are giving for females not enrolling in STEM university courses... or if they say discrimination is a cause, then same thing, that’s what they say about the gender pay gap - same thing, hypocrisy. Regardless of which reason they pick, male incarceration rates is at least just as much of a problem as gender pay gap. If they refuse to choose to acknowledge reasons for men’s “choice” to commit crimes (ie. the reason is just that they “choose”) then that means it’s equally valid for me to say the same thing that it’s just that across the board women “choose” lower paid work situations. The truth is, for both issues, it’s different combinations of all of these factors. I think there’s a much more solid case for lower-socioeconomic men being “discriminated” against by the system then for women being “discriminated” against in this day and age.

Really? In _'12 rules for life'_ Peterson argues why growing up in small towns is better than doing so in the (pesky leftist?) city, and coming up with a _survey_ that mentions that the vast majority of people who achieved great things for humanity (scientists, inventors, doctors etc.) all came from small towns. But when you check what survey he's on about, you find it was done in the early 1900's, a time in which almost _everyone_ came from rural places, to then move to the city. Talking about _'looking at data that support one's views only.'_ The guy is an utter demagogue. (and a very unpleasant narcissistic one at that) (Sophie IS of course a nitwit. Peterson seems to only show up, opposite TV nitwits. I'd say to ensure he'll always come out as _the reasonable_ one, afterwards? Cause every time he debates anyone intelligent, he fails terribly)

@@benjamindavidscargill5633 ps: please notice him, coming up with his _'metaphorical substrate of our culture'_ (later calling it the _metaphysical_ substrate of our culture). In our brains? He does this a lot: utter complete woowoo, to then pretend there's a scientific bases for it. There hardy ever (never?) is. And also (sorry for the edit): how he calls something _true/real_ if it's _useful._ Anything not useful, isn't real/true? Cancer isn't real? Plastic is useful, but now our oceans are full of the stuff; how does that work exactly? Is plastic real, till it started being harmful, or what? (forgot if that last part is in this clip, though). Oh, almost forgot: how he again claims that our morality is the christian one. It isn't. It's a secular morality, based on the ancient Greeks, that just got interrupted by the horridly christian dark ages.
@luciddreamer6165 жыл бұрын
The Scandinavian study isn't a list of surveys from the 1900's, and while I agree that Dr. Peterson often uses rosy, elliptical language to push narratives, pointing this out does nothing to disprove any of his more robust arguments. The basic thrust of this argument about Christianity forming the "metaphorical substrate of our culture" is that Judeo-Christian values undergird western societies, and we very often take for granted the extent to which these various principles, tropes and beliefs are a byproduct of Judeo-Christian influence (e.g. all men are created equal, we should treat all of humanity like our neighbors and tribes, children and childhood are sacrosanct, no one is perfect, the most vile and loathsome criminal can be redeemed if he sincerely seeks to mend his ways--these are all almost exclusively manifest in protestant Christianity.) He didn't argue for the existence of God when speaking to Matt Dilahunty because he doesn't believe in God. He believes that Christian values are unlikely to survive a hard push toward secularism and that their absence will be disastrous for anyone living in societies founded on such values. And you can't deny that as we become more secular, people become more and more enamored with ideologies that contain religious elements (e.g. privilege is original sin, micro-aggressions are venial sins, bigotry is the cardinal sin, your criticisms of feminism only serve to demonstrate why feminism is necessary, and so on.) Matt Dilahunty may not be wholly on board with this ideology, but he is very cozy with it. Notice the way his feathers got ruffled at the end, when Peterson alleged that early "humanism" was "pretty secular"? Dilahunty can see that other forms of humanism mirror religious thought, but he is totally blind to the manner in which his own form of humanism does the exact same thing. There are times when Peterson's arguments are specious. One of the biggest gripes I have with him is that he very often takes words with common usages and tries to retrofit them to concepts that have nothing to do with the way we commonly use the word. So, for example, we commonly understand "beliefs" as low-confidence dispositions (positive or negative) about the truth of a proposition or the existence of a thing, whereas Peterson very often argues that belief is a way of talking about propositions that motivate your actions, the nature of which you often aren't aware, such that they can only be reasonably inferred by independent actors assessing what you do. But this way of thinking about beliefs allows him to advance claims about his own beliefs that don't fit common usage (i.e. he acts as though he believes God exists because he adheres to the morals he believes to be the byproduct of Christian values, ergo he "believes" God exists.") That said, using his tendency to treat the categorical scopes of words as a great deal more elastic than they ought to be (even though he is always forthright about when he's doing this), and then using this as a means of casting aspersions on him during other engagements where he has used no such tactic is lazy, and disregarding him on this basis is foolish. I have yet to see anyone refute any of the arguments he put forward here, nor did he refute the data presented by his opponent, as it was already consistent with the claims he advanced in the first place.

When someone has a hypothesis, they test the hypothesis a number of different ways, after they have tested it as many times as they can (not sure how many times, I don't know the exact wording here) it becomes theory, and it stays as such until someone disproves it, then other scientists test the new replacement theory till that gets disproved. No but they feel like they do. They often see themselves as the porte-parole of all their "kind" and that's dangerous when going online/live and being seen/heard by a lot of people.

You're actually wrong about that. There are droves of these aggressively dumb people advocating on your behalf based on wrong premises just as she is. You will be damaged by this thought process unless people like you, get up consistently and tell them to shut TF up. Don't believe me? Go as black Americans what the consequences of this exact thought process on public policy has gotten them... pure destruction. This is the reason and nothing else. Whether you agree with her or not has absolutely nothing to do with anything.
@LeavingGoose0464 жыл бұрын
@Johnny Pitbull He was saying that people attempting to speak on behalf of all black people worsens the groups outcome as a whole, not anything inherently wrong with the group as a whole. I don't think I quite agree with this view, but I can say it clearly isn't racist (if anything advocating for treating a race of people as a bunch of individuals rather than a unified group is a step in a less racist direction).

Inside, I can guarantee that he's fuming, he's just fantastic at maintaining his composure and being patient. He knows that if he listens carefully, he can better rebut any points someone makes because he won't misrepresent their perspective.

@@ianwulf24 I don't know about fuming. I find it difficult to listen when I'm angry. Also, its kinda hard to dwell on how something that was said makes you feel when you're constantly trying to be attentive to the ongoing discussion. Maybe JP got upset looking back on the things that were said here but I doubt he had time to in the moment.

I think the lady understands it... because of empathy, just because she didnt say all the ideas, it doesnt mean she doesnt agree with his point... and women are considered as great for taking care of kids, that women realised they have to be patient with the small kids, who create lot of mess in house, because kids from 0 to 7 are highly creative according to scientists, because kids brain is in state of theta which means imagination, so kids dont have ability to understand what is wrong what is good, so the mothers have lot of work with them all day to protect them........while men dont have the same amount of patience, and men desire to do creative jobs, to have potential of the jobs....instead of sitting all day with 2 year old, and feed the kid and bath the kid and wash the clothes..Women realize they also want the creative job to feel a freedom and not depend only on men, who bring money to house, but they also love motherhood, but its difficult to do both.. I think some women understand the hardships of men and their jobs, but women only dislike arrogant types of men, who are competitive but dont have other values... and of course there may be women who dont understand men, but its great if both understand each other.

Jordan said excellent thing...Men have most difficult job that women cant do, building houses etc..... I think he is right.. I am woman too, its great when someone says it honestly, and women understand it.. Women like honesty... but of course some fight for the equality for other reasons.. As in some companies, women work hard and have less money than men, who dont work physically so hard... For example my colleague worked 20 year in company of paper production.. She said they had also nice male collagues, but also not so good ones.. For example the guy got 3 times more money, but he didnt have to work physically so much as the women did... he turned on the machine and whole day was sitting in chair, just sometimes he controlled the machine, while the women were running around the room whole time, he was sitting... So she felt its unfair that he is sitting all the time and has much more money than the ones who are doing the physical work....So maybe if women will fight for equality for physical workers.... maybe even male physical workers may benefit from it... No workers should be abused male or female...Because then the women are exhousted and can not give as much attention to their kids and husbands etc.

@Lzb Lmvm Women aren't dumb. Certain cultures and societies have indoctrinated women into believing an illusion about how this world works. Overall I think women are smart but they have bought a lie that seems flattering to them that all their problems can be blamed on "men", and this "patriarchal" society. And if we can just remove men, or weaken men, or destroy men, then suddenly feminine problems will largely go away. They are wrong.
