I was surprised how similar they all sat in a full mix, with only a couple of mid-scooped exceptions. I think that had something to do with you dialing the mids and bass, sometimes pretty extremely. It raises the question, do people who choose a brand on purpose use its idiosyncrasies to define their Sound or dial them to sound alike?
@germanmartynenko23504 жыл бұрын
I think it depends. In my case it's "dial them to sound alike") I owned a Marshall JCM2000, got tired of its spiky highs and switched to something completely different like Mesa DC-5 Dual Caliber. When I brought it to the studio and tweaked all those knobs, my bandmates said "so what's the point, you sound completely the same". So I do dial up the tone I have in my head on pretty much anything, Orange, Mesa, Diezel, Peavey, Marshall. The difference is very subtle and I rather feel it than hear.

I use to choose the Cali Lead for every heavy souds for almost 2 years, than I switched to the Badonk and got awesome results ,but now, I use the Revv gen Red, it's just the king.. EDIT : Coming back home with the Cali Lead. That amp just make me feel good.

I use both the Revv gen red and Badonk on two separate paths. haven't found a better metal tone
@lebebop16822 жыл бұрын
@@Kevn1215 Yeah I tried that some time ago, because a wanted to add those "highs and punch" of the Badonk to the Rev who got a more "full and thicker" sound, but I couldn't manage to make a better tone than with the Revv alone. But by scooping the mids of the Revv at around 3.0, I got what I wanted, which is kind of a Petrucci tone. Full and rich but with a lot of clarity, almost "liquidy".

Great shootout man! the Revv Gen Purple sounds massive!
@donovanrebbechi33344 жыл бұрын
I liked the sound coming out of the Mesas in this video (especially the Mark IV). Usually I don't care much for the Mesa rectifier sound (very scooped, a bit flubby) but you've really tightened it up here by pushing the mids very hard and near maxing out the tone. The "Panama" seems to lack the midrange punch of the real thing (not just here, in other videos too). The Badonk sounds really sweet as usual, leaves me wondering if there's some merit in the vendor building tones from scratch instead of trying to clone an existing amp.

When i want to play with backing track from YT, i have to turn down volume of backing track to 1/3 because volume of guitar from Helix is very low. How can i fix it? Meaby its normal with Helix?

Yeah, another great video! :) I've also been trying out all of the high gain models on my helix since I bought it. I ended up on the Revv Purple but also on the German Uber which is quite funny because you excluded it entirely. I personally don't like the rectifier model and with the Panama I always hear strange low end rumbles like digital artefacts when palm muting. 🤔

@@NickHillMakesMusic I think rig makes a massive difference to sounds. Im playing on passive custom 59 pickups on my esp horizon through mackie 50's and using OH 412 MES G80+V30 JS impulse which seems to sounds really thick and tasty to me. Soldano seems to give me some of the best metal tones but it could be a taste thing, I like that death metal type tone (really narrows it down). The tones you pull are amazing though man you really know what you are doing.

I have wondered, these guitar tones sound pretty bassy on their own, so does one have to employ some kind of EQ trickery to accomodate the bass guitar for the final mix?
@NickHillMakesMusic2 жыл бұрын
Hmm wonder what you’re monitoring on, because boy do I roll off a lot of low end. Also, I always roll off low end in the mix as well.

I usually use the REVV purple or the Badonk with guitars with hotter pickups ,but with guitars with lower wound pickups PAF style pickups like Gibson's , I don't really like how the Mids sound so for that i use the Friedman patch .
