I love how excited you are at the end about your apron, you're so cute haha! You inspired me to start sewing and now I want an apron for myself even though I don't have any dress to wear it with x) If you want to change the straps maybe you could sew them inside the waistband for a neater finish, that's what I did when I made a pinafore dress, with buttons on top it could look great :)

I prefer French seams for most things, but for things like the ruffle on the bottom of your apron, I would have used binding. I use the French seams for all structural seams. I've made both a shirt with a ruffled peplum and a dress where I used self made binding tape to cover the raw edges of the gathered parts because I didn't want to loose length with a FS. Yeah, I'm partial to completely finished insides and I do all my sewing by hand, so no serger here either.

Firstly, I love the lace top you're wearing in this video! Secondly, my sewing machine AND serger are being serviced right now, this video makes me wish I had them right now!! XD I've been meaning to make an apron for a long time. My hesitation is that I have to do everything "right" ( I have a degree in apparel design, and over 10 years sewing experience) and struggle with just winging it! The result is SOOOOO cute!! ^_^

@sallysaindon37524 жыл бұрын
Lucy, it is so great seeing your excitement and skill grow with each sewing project you do!!! Also, I don't know how tricky it is for others when it comes to gathers in french seams, but one thing I do is sew the seam regularly, leave the gathering thread in and fold in the raw edges than topstitch at the edge to encase them. It's kind of like a fake french hem and I think it just helps keep the gathering in the right place.
@asaeparoissien58643 жыл бұрын
Hi I have a little question. This is my first time with gathers and ruffles. She said the width of the skirt should be the size of the waist and a half to be able to gather, so is the bottom part two times the size of the waist?

I want to make one. Love this! p.s. Next time you draft directly on the fabric, before sewing it together, you could make a paper pattern so you can make it again without all of the measuring! Sarah's mother here. Your enthusiasm and charm are very much appreciated and enjoyed. But I do not understand why you make things so hard for yourself. Generations of people who have come before us have already figured out how to sew beautiful garments. Hundreds of these people have written books, made videos, and created patterns in order to share that information with people like you who have interest and aptitude. Why do you not avail yourself of this knowledge? I feel you do yourself and your viewers a disservice by not exploring this wealth of knowledge and putting it into practice. I'll bet there are tailors and seamstresses near you who could teach you in person. Ah, well. There is one piece of advice my daughter and mother, both professional seamstresses, want to offer you: GIve yourself better lighting to work and film in. Look over your machine carefully and see if there isn't one built into it that just needs a new bulb.
@adriennegonzales26364 жыл бұрын
Sarah Compton....'s mother, she does not do her audience a disservice at all. There are other channels that do extensive research portions of their sewing projects. ... Loepsie dives in and shows her audience that's it's OK to just jump in and not be scared to try. Everyone has to start somewhere.

You did very well, I think it needs pockets. You shouldn't be afraid of trying new things even if they do not come out well the first time. Watch a few tutorials and videos and practice practice practice in order to achieve new ways of mastering your skills. Making buttons and buttonholes, grommets, etc. are very challenging and can take years to master them. It's ok to make mistakes, it is how we learn. Don't be afraid of making mistakes. Think of it as a way to grow from them. And you will be able to become better over time. Do not beat yourself up over the aesthetics of homemade quality. Sometimes, that is what is desired. A homemade quality versus a manufactured quality. Keep up the great job! You could also learn how to dye your fabrics next time in case you have a stash of linen lying about that you would prefer to be a different color. That is also a skill worth learning. I am also still learning it myself and am into making stamps onto the fabric with fabric paints for textile patterns of my own. Good luck to you, and happy sewing.

there is a fairly large population in the US that does re enacting as a hobby. Folks research certain time periods and create period costumes for themselves. They gather and recreate times in history for the sake of education and recognition of what our ancestors faced. Is there anything like that in Holland? I watch Townsends on youtube. They have very fascinating videos and include LOTS of hands on things.

I really want a vintage style apron, but I just don’t think I can justify it, given I’d have nothing to wear it for. I’m disabled and can’t cook or clean, and I wouldn’t wear it out. So it’s completely useless to me, unfortunately. I still really want one though. They’re so adorable! Edited to add: I just realised I could make something similar- a pinafore dress! Rachel Maksy has a floor length brown pinafore that I’ve been drooling over for a couple of weeks now. I think I’ll add it to my (ever growing) project list! But I do need to make myself some Edwardian inspired blouses to wear with it first, I think.

Cecily Erker I’ve decided to make one with a bit of extra lace floof on the sides, and pockets that are more to the front, so I can access them while sitting down. It’ll be my sewing apron, and will protect my (lbh, nightie) from falling threads and stuff. Really wish I’d had one before I sewed a bit of faux fur on to a hooded cape the other day- that stuff goes everywhere! So the apron is now officially on my project list. :)
