Only the old Parker luck and Peter’s guilt complex means Ghost Rider can’t punish Peter because he already punished himself with the same intensity of the penance stare. Fun thing that he didn't cover. A tie-in issue has Hulk fight Ghost Rider. Strange is keeping an eye on the battle, and describes the Rider as one of the few beings that could take the Hulk. Or, more accurately, the source of the Rider's power. Johnny Blaze is knocked out, and we see this power, as Zarathos, the true Spirit of Vengeance, awakens and takes control of his body. Zarathos and Hulk stare at each other for a moment...and then the true Ghost Rider gets on his bike, and rides away. The demon Zarathos has a rule: he acts to punish the guilty, but he will not harm the innocent, even through inaction. AND THE ILLUMINATI ARE FAR FROM INNOCENT. It says something when the DEMON thinks you f*cked up and leaves you to your karma. As for no consequences, I'd argue that the blow to the public faith that Tony and Reed suffered was compounded by the Secret Invasion, and it opened the door to them getting ousted from their SHIELD-funded positions and the people choosing someone else to be the top cop. A pity that someone was Norman Osborn, aka the GREEN F*CKING GOBLIN!

Xavier said he would have done it but only until they found a cure and OWNS UP TO IT before surrendering to the Hulk. The XMen try to stop it and get curb stomped. The only reason Xavier isn't in MSG is because Hulk finds out about M-Day and claims that the X-men have suffered enough, that Xavier is in his own hell based on his own mistakes. Looks like someone at Marvel actually GOT THE MEMO

It's like how movie Thanos has a complete change in his goals and motivations, but it works perfectly well within the different context of the MCU and how its version of the Gems work.

As good as this story is, it reminds me of why I dislike Marvel so much in this era. Sure it may be fun for some to see characters like Tony get the shit kicked out of them, but for me it is not remotely satisfying. You can have characters do dickish things and border on villains all you want, but I wont really like seeing them pay for it, if them doing those things in the first place was out of character, or their reactions are out of character. Now I buy some of Tony's actions in Civil War and here, but as an Iron Man fan, i don't buy how he went about a lot of them. That's why I am so conflicted on there not being lasting consequences, sure I would like to see these characters pay in the context of the universe, but I know they did not make those dickheaded decisions; their writers did for the sake of drama and edginess. Seeing Tony get beaten up cause Millar could not write him properly is not fun for me, it just reminds me of why I prefer DC. Like the final crisis Batman example, Bruce's role in Ted's death made sense within the character, did not feel like it was done out of nowhere, he was not an irredeemable jerk about it, and he saw his mistake. Not only does Marvel rarely make their character pay long term for their mistakes these days, even when they do make them pay it feels off cause often those mistakes feel artificial or the characters react like assholes over it. Which does not make me hate them, but rather hate the writers. If you wanna have Tony make some massive mistakes and pay for it, that's great; but then have him actually pay for it in character and make an effort to change, and importantly make sure that said mistakes are not character assassination. Like the Brother Eye example, Batman making it was wrong, but he admitted fault, and even when he did so, you can still understand why he made the mistake in the first place. He does not become a straw man in order to tell the story is my point.
@richardthorndike66086 жыл бұрын
"I know they did not make those decisions; their writers did for the sake of drama and edginess" AND WE HAVE A WINNER!!!! part of the reason MCU works is that they know how to make things serious when they can ans goofy when they can't. Black Panther could be semi-serious because it's world is semi-realistic. You can't do that with hulk he's just too big and strong.
@redleaderantilles12636 жыл бұрын
That's a fantastic point. Part of why I love the MCU Civil War is cause it manages to have everyone's stance make sense for who they are, be valid, have none of them cross to much of a line, and at the end of the day give a good reason for why Tony and Steve are not handling this as well as they would otherwise. Both groups are right and wrong, and in the end they all still respect one another. The MCU managed to make a heroes vs heroes film, and a tragedy, while still maintaining the fact that these people are heroes.
@richardthorndike66086 жыл бұрын
meanwhile They know how ridiculous the hulk's premise is and how ridiculously overpowered he is so what do they do? [ut him in a giant planet sized play pen with monsters that match his strength and durability and let the cheesball role from their. Thor Ragnorok I felt was dragged by it's first half, but once we got to Planet Hulk it was a blast from start to finish. I still don't like Stark but it sounds like he's better handled in the MCU vs the comics.
@alexandrefrauches132 Жыл бұрын
Well said! Just because the hero is arrogant and flawed doesn't give writers free pass to just make the character a total jerk to point of being irredeemable. We should be able to see character flaws but also their potential to learn from their mistakes and becoming better person through their experiences. I think the best exemple of Tony being a jerk and yet still being portrayed in character is one my favorite Iron Man stories Armors Wars, in which the plot is about he discovering that his technology was stolen and sold to criminals, causing Tony go on crusade against this villains, to deactive their armors. However he so driven by guilt and paranoia that he makes many mistakes and questionable actions, from going beserk and beating and almost killing a criminal after hurting a civilian, invading Russia and causing a international incident, attacking the federal agent Stingray (who didn't use his technology) and trying to deactive the armors of the guardsmen (guards of the prison Vault) and fighting Captain America. The difference is that, unlike Civil War era, Tony actually feels remorse for his actions, he reflects on his actions recognize the damage he caused to the point he "fired Iron Man" (in that period, people thought Iron Man was Stark's bodyguard) from Stark Enterprise and leaves the Avengers, so his friends won't have to pay for his mistake. It's this moments and actions that help readers care for Tony and want to see him redeem himself for his mistakes.

bigfatcarp93, the Leader and General Ross. The Leader could be under the impression he can control the Hulk, which Ross jumps at the thought of. They could have gone with the typical secret family that he loses, similar to Magneto in X-MEN: APOCALYPSE. But that might have been better suited as a sequel to AVENGERS: AGE OF ULTRON, and rather than Banner being on another planet for two years, instead he's been hiding somewhere on Earth. I still think it could work if they tried. It doesn't have been be exactly like the comic. Grief stricken, Hulk goes mad with rage trying to hunt down Ross and the Leader, with military personnel and numerous heroes who sided with the Sokovia Accords getting in the way. I wouldn't mind seeing Betty Ross again, and maybe Red-Hulk, but I run the risk of this idea being more of an INCREDIBLE HULK 2 than an AVENGERS: WORLD WAR HULK.

@EternalBooda6 жыл бұрын
Problem is, nobody knows what to do with his character. He's supposed to be a scientist, but to write a credible science character, you actually have to KNOW a bit of science. There was a while where Reed dealt with metaphysical ideas that sound sciencey, but the real-life culture those ideas were based on devolved into new age spiritualism. If they wrote Mr. Fantastic as the 10th Doctor, he'd be an appealing character. Someone who is plagued by his actions in the past, and while trying to atone for them is conflicted with the fact that he has knowledge and technology that, if he isn't careful, can have irrevocable consequences. But he's still charming, and still moral. He isn't detached from reality.
@dannybuckle37636 жыл бұрын
EternalBooda I agree with all of this. Personally I never saw Reed as a difficult character to write for, just have him work on his social skills whilst also dealing with being a father and a scientist. He should be a confident scientist but a social wreck who keeps a lot of secrets from everyone, but as the story pans out he should make more friends (Tony, Bruce, Hank (both Pym and McCoy), Charles) but also face his secretive past with dignity and regret, and not with denial.

Here's the fundamental problem with the entire WWH scenario: It requires the four heroes who Hulk blames for his wife's death (not to mention the collapse of his entire kingdom) to actually fight the Hulk. The original heroes Stan Lee created would have gone along quietly, preventing the risk of any people being killed or property getting destroyed, while making their claims about not planting a bomb in the Hulk's shuttle look WAY more convincing. But then, of course, we wouldn't get any boom-boom pow-pow action. It's a case of character sacrificed for the sake of spectacle.
@Fuzzy_Barbarian6 жыл бұрын
The thing with the Hulk somehow not killing any civilians isn't a matter of realism to me; it's one of consequence. It's saying that with all the times the Hulk has lost control, the damage was always just to property or injuries people could recover from? No. That is stupid. I called out Man of Steel for this and the Hulk as a character is no different.
@andyenglish43036 жыл бұрын
But Man of Steel did have people dying.
@rexex3456 жыл бұрын
Fuzzy Barbarian he never killed anyone doesn't mean people got off Scott free, if no-one died from his more extreme rampages then that means a sizable number of people were probably left with brain damage, paralysis, comas (they don't get counted in death tolls) or any number of far as far worse than death. People left, homeless, jobless, families destroyed by these injuries. This series was the cruel face of karma for all the main characters, but only hulk could realise that and accept responsibility.
@Fuzzy_Barbarian6 жыл бұрын
"Family destroyed"? Unless they're dead, it's not destroyed. Maybe their houses or possessions, but they themselves aren't destroyed. Maybe the story where this is mentioned does mention serious injuries, but the idea that the Hulk *never* killed a single person while rampaging *does* remove the feeling of consequence.
@Fuzzy_Barbarian6 жыл бұрын
Retroactively in BvS, yes. But when the movie first came out, there was noticeable backlash because it was never addressed in the movie itself, along with the collateral damage (i.e. when Clark moves to Metropolis at the end, it's perfectly fine).

I loved this storyline. To an extent with my most favorite moment being that fight between Ghost Rider and Hulk and yes I know it happens in a tie-in issue. But this fight results in Johnny actually giving full control to Zarathos which only happens rarely and even though technically Zarathos wins him and Johnny leave cause they realize their duty is to punish guilty and not harm the innocent even through inaction with realizing that most of the Illuminati are not innocent and leaves them to what they deserve meaning it's saying something when a demon realizes you're in the wrong. This combined with the Secret Invasion results in Tony and Reed getting kicked out of SHIELD and SHIELD being replaced by HAMMER which is led by Norman Osborne aka the Green Goblin which ultimately does more harm then good especially when Norman orders the assault on New Asgard and Aries the mythical Greek God of War actually calls out Norman on how this is a bad idea which results in Norman ordering a Void-possessed Sentry to murder him. And how does Hercules' half-brother die at the hands of the Void by having the Void rip him in half with his bare hands with no effort.

thund3rchild I call bs on that. When Hulk does what he does, there *has* to be a few casualties. Sure, they'd be unintentional, but it'd be a huge consequence to Hulk going nuts. Its not like Bruce is in control, therefore, can avoid citizens if need be, and the worst case scenario would be tons of destroyed buildings if he was fighting Red Hulk or Abomination(like Superman in MoS, he *tried* taking the fight elsewhere, but Zod stopped him from doing that. And before that, those Terraformers did so much damage). Its the mindless Hulk we all know, the one that gets stronger the angrier he gets. There would have to be tons of unintentional repercussions whenever Hulk goes on a rampage. All those rampages cant be handwaved to people not getting hurt(it sucks that its canon). Thats lazy af. Thats like the early DBZ English Dubs, where when Vegeta & Nappa attacked, there was a line after it saying that civilians were exvacuated, or something alone those lines, even though the two(mainly Nappa) wrecked shit.

I’m basically on the Hulk’s side and felt that these heroes and the government deserves what’s coming to them. Not just what happened at Sakaar, but what the government did that caused the Super Hero Civil War and those who sided with the Pro Hero Registration Act. A Thor Robot killed Goliath, just for fighting for the freedom of super heroes. Captain America was shot and killed just for fighting against the Pro Hero Registration Act. Black Bolt and his Inhumans just raided New York City and killed a lot of innocent people just because the Inhumans felt they can do whatever they want. And yet the people of this world fully supported these acts. They treated those who sided against the Pro Hero Registration Act as criminals. This whole Hero Registration Act started because the government failed to look into the actual cause of the destruction of Stamford, and instead, used the super heroes as a scapegoat. Hulk might be turning back to his old “Smash” habits, but he’s at the point where he can tell right from wrong and knew who was clearly in the wrong here.

The two thing that have limited Hulk's power: His anger was usually for petty reasons, anger that fades reasonably swiftly after the initial trigger and doesn't continuously build up Bruce existing inside of him, holding him back to whatever extent he's currently able to During World War Hulk? Hulk's wife, unborn son and kingdom just died right in front of him and Bruce is encouraging Hulk every step of the way by feeding him his own anger too An anger that can never fade and only ever grow, combined with the one thing that restrained him now vehemently on his side... The Hulk we see here is probably the most powerful incarnation that could possibly exist and that is TERRIFYING Given how in a much more passive state Hulk threw a literal mountain, I feel his title of Worldbreaker may be quite literal during this event

Hulk’s Speech reminds me of Dracula’s speech from the Netflix Castlevania series-Started by the loss of an innocent love, a speech towards the people who fears him, a condemnation of the supposed “good” force, and a warning to leave before he comes to bring ruin.

So Hulk blames the illuminati for sending him to a planet where his rage inspires an alien sidekick so much that the sidekick believes the anger is his only true side; therefore not stopping the secret construction of a bomb intended to kill the Hulk, because the Hulk made peace on said alien planet. I'm not sure I agree with Hulks/Banners reasoning here as much as you are, Linkara. Inspiring your alien sidekick to the point where he's ready to blow up a city to stop world peace is kind of on you.

This has one of the best intros Linkara has ever done. The music and tone are brilliant.

Goodness, if only Thor Ragnarok was a planet hulk movie instead, letting Hulk get the main character slot, and showing him having to live with himself, and the struggle of being alone, after having built up a private life for himself and losing it all, maybe going into the beginning of the gladiator section in Ragnarok, and keeping the Thor elements later on. Or maybe if it was done before Ragnarok, giving both characters an important role in the greater story. I just really feel like hulk takes a MAJOR backseat in the MCU, and it sucks that they're treating him like he's a less interesting character than he actually is.

I'm not trying to say the Hulk isn't responsible for his rampages. I firmly believe that justice is a case of "when you make a mess, you clean it up/you make it right". For example: you damage someone else's stuff, you pay or it. You kill a person, you pay your debt to society in jail (and after, but that's a different conversation/fight). And if your actions lead to a planet dying, you take full responsibility for your war crimes, whatever action that may be. It may have been Meek's rebels or whoever who set off he warp core, but it doesn't change the fact that the warp core would NEVER have been there if they hadn't sent Hulk there. Keeping Hulk on earth may have resulted in more "rampages" as they seem to be the only way most writer have to justify "popular hero versus the Hulk" fights, but Hulk hasn't and likely wouldn't have killed millions. No matter how you slice it, Marvels Illuminati are in the wrong and need to clean up their mess, instead of hiding behind their excuses. They made a mess, they make it right. On the other hand I do have to give Marvels writers a tiny bit of credit. People who are rich/famous/in a position of power getting away with their crimes is a much more realistic outcome.

@@jesuschrist22409 Thats a terribley wrong way of taking my rant... It would only be your fault if you personally built the house there 😀. Shitty, barely "able to called a joke" jokes aside, all I meant was that Stark, Richards and anyone else involved with sending Hulk to that planet deserve some of the blame for what happened, but they never get any of it (outside of this event). While typing this out, I was trying to make an example about having a villain make Hulk rampage and then having the villain get away with it and giving Hulk all of the blame, but I realised I don't really care enough about this argument to continue it. Stark Richards and the others who chose to send Hulk away against his will deserves some amount of blame for the destruction a world, that is my opinion. If you disagree, deal with it. If you agree, deal with it. Either way, have a pleasant evening.

24:27 that speech explains so well why I hated this era of the marvel universe, these heroes we loved and cared about were turned into liars, traitors, and killers, and we're supposed to root for them? No, mother of God, NO!! They need to pay for their crimes, learn from all this to become better heroes and try to make up for their sins so that they can regain the trust they've lost so mean spiritedly!

Okay, next week will be time for the ultimate continuity check for this show. If linkara’s past self shows up, then he will truly be our champion.

And thus about a year ago, I had finally caught up with this show. I went on a HUGE binge of AT4W so I wouldn’t be bored my second semester of sophomore year of high school. (I’m a senior next year) I watched the sleepwalker arc blind, was surprised as all get out when the twist of the new entity was revealed when Comicron one made a fantastic return, and was surprised by Margaret’s new appearance yet again. Learned about so many new heroes and villains and origins thanks to this show and I thank you for that Lewis.

And now, another excerpt from the revised Marvel dictionary... "Krakabathroom" 1: An exploding toilet. 2: The sound a reader's mind makes when reading "World War Hulk" while doing some "nasty business".
