851995STARGATE Agreed about stopping the thermal throttling, if there was a good way to deliver a similar performance with the new cooling setup I suspect it'd run at a pretty nice temperature with those speeds. All things considered a fairly elegant solution to the problem and its a compartment that is useful for any future electronics that generate heat. Personally I'd just be lazy and have it out in the open myself but if I'm not mistaken Linus has cute cats to dump hair everywhere, so having it in there with intakes that can be filtered is probably more than worth it.

ToKeepTrackOfRandomSubs personally I have a mini itx rig with a 960 in it (similar to Linus) and honestly I went with aio cooling just so it could sit in my media cabinet hours on end. At least that way CPU heat doesn't make its way to the gpu. I feel he should do an aio setup similar to mine a seidon 120v or something as cheap and keep the cabinet the way it is now

Guys, i dont want to be pessimist but there is something i miss from you guys. I miss more Motherboards, Memory, CPU and more PC hardware specialized overviews as when this channel was part of NCIX. I know you guys are doing a lot of peripherals, Smartphones, PSU and Cases overview, and they all are very good. But i miss more variety and frequency on all kinds of PC hardware in general, as it was on the past.

Legend Hidde To be honest i think in the past there was more variety, now days most of the videos are either funny ones or the kind i mention. Not that they are bad and i am right, but it is something i do miss (i understand they had more acess before as NCIX is a store so easy for then to get all products, where now it isnt).. but still, i think it worth mention.

***** That's a little harsh; OSX is still definitely very UNIX and with enough (very many) hacks and mods and applications, the locked-down appleness of it *can* be lifted enough to use it similarly to open source UNIXes like BSD and Linux. If you see a security professional, a black hat or some other script kitty in general using a macbook, this is probably the case if they haven't done away with OSX entirely (at the moment you see them in case they use multiple OS) and put their own choice of distro on. Admittedly, I think even they are attracted by the hardware since many might not actually know enough about hardware to understand just how much of the money you pay for a macbook is shinyness and admittedly-incredible build quality.

***** Macs are for people who have a lot of money to waste but not much time to learn how to make or buy an equally good computer in both performance and build quality for cheaper. The money goes to the very good build quality and fancy seamless aluminum case if it's a macbook pro or iphone. When speaking of laptops, it is certainly true that macbooks aren't too overpriced when compared to a PC of similar build quality like the Razer Blade or something from Falcon Northwest (though they do intensely lack graphics power in comparison).
@user-uc9go9lo8y
@user-uc9go9lo8y 10 жыл бұрын
Christ, I do use a Mac. Because I don't need a lot of performance; I just need long battery life, a light weight and enough performance for some Photoshop, After Effects and some C4D. I do want to build a desktop; I'm building one for my friend in January if things go as planned. You have to look at computers logically. You can't just go "Oh mac they're terrible" then why the crap does Linus use a Dell XPS 12? You can get so much better performance for the same money! Because he probably wants something light, with good battery life and decently powerful. Which is what a Mac Retina 13 is. I would've gotten a PC if my shoulders could handle a heavy computer. Trust me, in the lightweight laptops, there's not much to beat a Mac unless you go into the levels of the Razer Blade which is not a very good laptop. Understand me.

Followed the link from the Aug. 6th 2020 video. It is amazing the improvements LMG has made in filmography, editing, everything. Good work everyone. Oh and the entertainment center mod was good to. I'll probably do the same thing in the future if I every build a media PC. I'll probably build my own entertainment center though and use small high filtration "furnace filters". We have six cats, good filtration would be a must.

Well I did this a while back, having a basement, I simple ran wires through the wall to a square wall plate for looks, down to the basement and mounted my HTPC rig down there, which is also a gaming pc. I hate noise, heat, and clutter - this fixed all of them. So I ran a 16ft hdmi, usb, and 4 wire power/reset. Hdmi goes into the tv of course- the 16ft usb 3.0 goes into a 4way splitter: for controller, m/kb dongle, and anything else needing plug in. I simply removed the power/reset switches from the case - added 16ft of wire, and drilled a couple of small holes to a shelf in the HTC cabinet - the switches look as if they belonged. Meanwhile in the basement, i simple ran power and network cable to the HTPC, and the three small cables : hdmi, usb, 4wire through the stud wall opening that leads to the back of the living room entertainment center. And since i change up my room settings every couple of years i - put in a square outlet with a hinged opening for the cables to work. MY gaming room slash office, I ran the same setup but this time 3hdmi cables, for pc and consoles. MY monitor setups allow the surround sound via optical cable through hdmi. Wireless controllers, mean the only time I have to walk to the basement is to change out the game disc. MY gaming room is dead silent, when nothing is playing and no heat into my room.

"His way" probably costed him 20$ .. what you're talking about might cost him around 200$ .. so in conclusion i'd prefer a 10c difference for a 20$ mod more than a 20c difference for a 200$ liquid cooling mod as long as it fixes the problem.

If you want less dust, you should have mounted one exhaust and two intakes. This means that it will create positive pressure, blowing air out through not just the exhaust, but through any cracks and what not keeping out dust if the intake is filtered. If you have a filter intake, and unfiltered exhaust in equal number, you will have negative pressure, meaning that air will be sucked in unfiltered through cracks causing weird dust buildups along cracks.

Also, no brainer solution here would have been to primarily abandon air cooling in favor of a water setup with a cooling tower. You would only have had to drill a small slot in the back, and would have excellent performance.

How about a watercooled GPU cooler where you can put the radiator outside the case?

thats actually a really good idea, most cases have holes in the back for external rads and it would work great in linus' situation

Those kind of solutions have a very low wife acceptance factor though. Small cases, which also look good, such as Linus has here, have a higher wife acceptance factor.
