Forty two year State certified pest control operator / owner here, great video. That Umaxx is a great product being slow release. Applicators must realize that urea works best during intense sun season, such as summer. That ammonical nitrogen (peters) works best when it's cold because it doesn't need the sun for the blades to metabolize it. Applicators also need to understand if you're going to apply high concentrations of Nitrogen your pushing the blades for growth, so in certain seasons you will be stressing the lawn, that stress can cause fungus issues, especially in the south where we have intense sun, heat and humidity. Also, understand if you're applying nitrogen, you need to increase the water on the lawn. You are spot on with the statement when applying herbicides to add a little nitrogen or even a little potash to help the blade take in the herbicide. I would refrain from doing nitrogen when applying a fungicide because nitrogen feeds fungus, so do not help it. My only other advice to all is always wear tall rubber boots, slong sleeve shirts, pants and gloves ( Nitrile) when applying any chemical, especially pesticides, herbicides, fungicides and Iron. These products will make its way to tour organs, especially your liver. Your lawn looks sexy great job.

I do like UMAXX but I also like to be able to control my rates and also control when it gets applied, I've been applying quick release AMS at .10lb N at a time instead of controlled release urea.

Great job Brandon on breaking it down. I originally wanted that sprayer instead of a backpack but for 1600 sq ft thought it wasn't worth it even though it's a great sprayer. My plan was a 100% liquid fertilizer program but after the first month of not seeing the results I wanted went with left over Carbon X to add some granular fert to the program. Will still keep the liquids for soil amendments and the liquid ferts as well now that the lawn bounced back but will also apply the granular to here and there as alternative feeding. Your lawn is looking great

Have you ever applied DEF to your lawn (I hope not)? How effective is baby shampoo?
@TurfCulture Жыл бұрын
No I have not, but you could apply DEF to your lawn if you wanted to.. it's just liquid urea. Baby shampoo or dawn have similar effects as a wetting agent to reduce surface tension in hydrophobic soils.

Does liquid fertilizer need to absorb into the soil and get taken up by the roots or is it absorbed directly into the blades?
@TurfCulture Жыл бұрын
Both, the advantage is that the nitrogen is absorbed through the leaf blades and whatever gets washed off is soil soluble.

How big is the tank attached to said boom sprayer? You can realize some great returns by using some urea or ams tank mixed with a herbicide as long as you have enough carrier volume.

@@TurfCulture What are you using now? I'm thinking about getting that sprayer and just using the single nozzle. The steady nozzle height and larger tank seem like good enough reasons to switch from a backpack sprayer.
@chrisyoung8062 Жыл бұрын
@@TurfCulture So I ended up getting the Chapin and modifying it with a two nozzle (Teejet capable) boom. It seems perfect for my 11,300 ft2 lawn. Three nozzles would be too much on this sprayer unless you changed out the pump for something with higher volume and then you would need a different battery setup. You would also need a different boom mounting system as there is too much flex when using the plastic mount that comes with the sprayer for a boom long enough to accommodate three nozzles.

Most of the debates i've seen on tlf was around the "liquid" potassium side of the equation. Seems like potassium nitrate is theoretically a good option for liquid application but not realistic in bulk quantities unless you want homeland security at your doorstep. SoP wasn't really doable via spraying from what i read. In your case you seem to go around that issue by mixing that 3x20 fert with your main nitrogen source ?

@TurfCulture3 жыл бұрын
I wouldn’t recommend that you apply 1lb of 20-20-20 with a backpack sprayer. You would need a lot of carrier volume to dilute that. Instead try doing .25 or .20lbs of N.. one pound of product will give you the .20lbs of N.
