Some quick info: The rapper, Jeon Soyeon, writes and composes almost all their music as well as some for other artists. She's alrguably the best rapper of her generation and yes, she can sing. Half of their members are foriegn; Minnie - Thailand, Yuqi - China, Shuhua - Taiwan. Soyeon, Miyeon, and Soojin are all Korean. The dark voice you pointed out, Yuqi (lead dancer, sub-vocal, sub-rap), released a cover of Shallow by Lady Gaga and Bradley Cooper last week that's worth checking out.

I, too, went into Queendom for Mamamoo. Mostly. I have a history with AoA, but stopped paying attention to them after Choa left the group. And I was already a fan of (G)I-dle since their debut. One of my favorite girl group debuts of all time. Although it's hard to top Miss A "Bad Girl, Good Girl". But, through Queendom, Oh My Girl rose up to become a contender for my top groups, haha. As a Kpop fan and also a moomoo, I would say Soyeon is the best female rapper in industry right now. Followed by Moonbyul and LE from EXID. All of them wrote their own raps. Plus LE and Moonbyul is the one of the most credited lyricist female Kpop of all time. Don’t forget that Soyeon is the one produced and wrote all of their songs since day 1. Queens.

That's why I view G-idle as the more performance based version of Mamamoo. All the members bring super different looks and voices to their music, their chemistry seems genuine, and they're all just very charismatic and talented. No one seems unnecessary to the group, and yet they gel together super well, which is what I look for in a group. That's why G-idle and Mamamoo are legit my top two Kpop groups. :)

Nice choices with those three songs, picking 'Oh My God' and 'DUMDi DUMDi' really allowed you to see both ends of the spectrum so to speak. Lion's also one of their iconic songs/MVs. If you get back to them their debut is 'LATATA', 'SENORITA' is good and has a great rap from Soyeon, and 'Uh Oh' will.. surprise you! Keep an eye out for Song Yuqi she's a real one.

They're definitely known for being a group where each member has a very distinct and unique voice. It's one of their main appeals. And Soyeon, the rapper you like, is the main force behind (G)I-DLE's discography. She writes and produces most of their songs, while also giving ideas for concepts and music videos. Minnie and Yuqi (the girl with the lower and darker tone) also have become contributors of their discography, especially in their japanese repertoire.

To clarify, she wasn't cut, she _left._ She joined YG at about the same time Jennie did. Jennie talked several times about how she cried and despaired if she would ever get to debut, as the debut was delayed again and again. Instead of trusting YG that it will happen some day, Miyeon went to fulfill her dreams elsewhere.

Omg you really are doing the lord's work. DC, Everglow, Mamamoo and now (G)i-dle. Idle are known for their range of vocal colours, they are respected as being solid vocalists and just insanely talented in general. I would love to see you react to more of them, they have tons of content. Soyeon is actually a capable singer too and would be an ideal subject for a future "can *insert rapper* sing?" video. If there ever comes a time you'd like to assess their individual vocals, I highly suggest looking up the clip of Minnie and Yuqi's rendition of Scared to Be Lonely on Idol Room. It's only around 2 minutes long but there is no backing track and the way they sing together is just heavenly.

Another one of my favourite girl groups. To answer some questions and give a brief overview of (G)I-DLE, while their vocals are pretty amazing they aren't really known for that reason. Vocally they all have a pretty different colour to their voice which, at least for me, makes their music more interesting to listen to. The most standout parts of (G)I-DLE are the fact that almost every one of their songs is written and produced by Soyeon (with 1 song being written and produced by Minnie and another being written and produced by Minnie and Yuqi), so they are one of the few "self producing" groups in kpop. Personally my favourite member is Yuqi because of her darker/deeper vocal tone and off stage personality, her charisma on variety shows is incredible and she's very humble, I think it's actually impossible to dislike her. Suggestion for the next group: Not really a group but a duo (brother and sister) their name is AKMU, I won't say much other than Suhyun has an incredible voice and most of their music revolves around acoustic guitar, piano etc. that kind of style.

You've already checked out 2 of my favorite groups, (G)I-dle and Mamamoo. They are 2 of the more unique sounding groups in the Kpop space. For a solo singer-songwriter, I would recommending checking out Bibi 버버. She has a fair bit of live performances you can check out, and I would recommend her appearance on the Korean TV show 'The Fan'.

Hmm, what can I add that hasn't already been said? First, another group, another rapper, another bias for you, haha. Jokes aside, this group is crazy talented. I've had my eye on Soyeon (your favorite) since she was in the first season of Produce 101. She was one of my favorites, but she didn't make it into the top 11 to be in IOI. I remember a moment during Produce 101 when her team was working with a producer who had them all sing through the song so he could figure out who to give what parts to that fit the best. Soyeon was one of the first to do it, and while she was singing he was basically like "If the rapper is this good at singing, where does that leave everyone else?" But she's not just good at singing, not just good at rapping. She also writes, composes, performs. And not just for her group, either. She wrote "No" for CLC (another group in Cube Entertainment with (g)I-dle). And recently "Bird" for Kim Namjoo of Apink for her first solo debut. I wouldn't say the group is known for their vocals, per say. They have good vocals, but they're more known for their creativity and powerful energy. They're not afraid to try new things. Monster rookies, I would say. Well, not so much rookies anymore. But still relatively early in their career. They were on Queendom alongside Mamamoo, Lovelyz, Oh My Girl, AoA and Park Bom (from 2NE1). I would highly recommend finding a way to watch Queendom, as there are some fantastic performances, as well as unique moments of bonding between the groups. I thought Soyeon would be my easy bias when they debuted, but Soojin had other plans. Speaking of their debut, Latata is one of my favorite debuts of a girl group, ever. If I had to choose one song from their B-sides, though, I'd choose "Give Me Your". It's not an extremely challenging vocal song or anything like that. I just really like listening to it. Also, check out K/DA "Pop Stars" live performance in 2018 League of Legends Worlds. Soyeon and Miyeon perform it alongside two other global artists, Madison Beer and Jaira Burns. They represent League of Legends in game characters as if the characters themselves made a group. Interesting concept, to be sure. Also worth noting that Soyeon was heavily involved in the composition of the song, as well as a newer, recent release called "The Baddest". Although it seems the other two girls, not the ones in (g)I-dle, were replaced by two other singers. You seem to be hitting up most of my favorite girl groups, haha. I promise I'm not this knowledgeable about all the girl groups.

They are really amazing and, like dreamcatcher, they most of the time sound live even better. It Would be really amazing I you could react to more of their stuff. You're right gidle is know for their vocals and also their great music and live performances. I have the same impression about their vocal when i first know them. The first song I heard from them was Lion. I never know a kpop group that have different and interesting voices like like them. The transition between their voice made me addicted to the song. All member have pleasant voices as well. They have two most unique voice in kpop (yuqi and minnie).

(G)I-DLE is better known for their self-production, but many people do also ackonwledge that they have distinct and good vocals. The group name stands for them being six individuals, and you can hear it vocally. Soyeon, said that when she produces the songs, she tries to use each member's vocal strength in what works for the song. -However, despite the emphasis on the individuality you can definitely feel like the members care for one another. For example, Shuhua, the Taiwanese member, barely spoke the Korean language at their debut, and during their trainee days people hardly noticed or talked to her. Soojin, another member, was the first one to try and actually befriend Shuhua even if Soojin couldn't understand a word of the things said to her. From Vlives, we even got the information that Soojin met Shuhua's relatives a few times by now. But you can also see how in few of their earlier performances Soyeon was directing encouraging smiles towards Shuhua. I can go on about how genuine the camaderie between the members feel and how much I love it.

Soyeon the rapper you liked is my 3rd fave idol rapper after Dami and Moonbyul. also it gets confusing but the G is silent, more of a marker for girl in Korean they are "yeoja" idle. yeoja means girl, its just a play on words (G)-Idle = Girl idol. im not entirely sure but i think their company Cube had intended to release a (B)-Idle group for boys but scrapped the idea.

Not quite, it's a bit more complex. :) Idol is 아이돌 (aidol), they are (여자) 아이들 ("aideul"). "ai" = child, "deul" = plural; so they are "(girl) children" (though "idol" is certainly an intentional wordplay). This is also the reason the fandom is called "Neverland" - hoping to never grow up. There is another wordplay here, in their English name: in "(G)I-DLE", "I" is intended to represent the first person pronoun, so they are six I's, six individuals coming together as a group. This is reflected in their greeting, where the first "ai" is accompanied by a solitary thumbs up gesture, and the second "ai" (in "aideul") with both thumbs held together. The common speculation for the parenthesised part is that it would be extremely difficult to Google up 아이들 ("children") - or rather, to get results that wouldn't make you look like a weirdo or worse :P

@@Black3ight Sorry if I'm confused by your comment, but why does the way an English speaker pronounces their name matter when they, themselves, do not pronounce it that way? The "G" is in parenthesis for a reason in (G)I-DLE. That implies it is silent. Just because many people pronounce the "G" doesn't make it right. Even in Korea, many people pronounce the "여자" part that is supposed to be silent. But the girls have said, explicitly, that it is NOT supposed to be pronounced.

Just a suggestion, can you react on Apink? They have been in the industry for 9 years and are still active today, a group that has not much controversy either. I don't really know the songs, only know a few, what is clear is that their concept has changed from cute to more mature now. you should really watch their performance of Lion for Queendom. It was initially written for that show but soyeon had an entire concept for the MV so decided to make one since it was such a big hit at the live show. Its amazing as a stage performance.

Hi Sir Austin!!! I just finished binging your entire Mamamoo playlist. They're the first kpop group I stanned :,) so I'm sO happy that you're enjoying them so far. I just recently got into GIDLE as well so I was STOKED to see that you have a video on them. Their concepts and MVs are all so interesting. I recommend watching Jordan Orme's Video Editor Reacts to Oh My God. He goes a lot into the editing which suprisingly helps to tell the story so much. It's actually a wlw song!!!! I’m sure others have commented similar things, but oh well. Lol Soyeon is my bias and I’m so happy you recognized her talent and picked her out every time!! I’m going to watch your other video after this so I’m not sure if you know these things or not. But they won their first award 20days after their debut with Latata in 2018. Soyeon writes and produces the majority of their songs. Minnie has written a few songs and Yuqi has partaken in one I believe, that she wrote with Minnie, which they made it a fan song. Yuqi is known for her unique low voice, and Soojin for her incredible natural born talent of dance. Soyeon is just a Queen all around and whoever disagrees can fight me on this. Lmao. Minnies vocals from their performance of “All the Jazz” gives me lifeeeee. Miyeon is always hitting the high notes and I love how she always sings live no matter where they’re at or what they’re doing. She is Queen to me because of that. Shuhua’s vocals still get me the most though because her singing voice is so different from her speaking voice. Welcome to Neverland. We are hardcore fans and love our girls like no tomorrow.
