Well you guys are all entitled to your opions and likes and dislikes. As for this old man I had the pleasure of spending time with these guys back in the 70s. I was traveling with a band and we played several venues with these guys and it was just unreal. Lowell is gone and no one can replace him, but I don't think he would want the music to die and I would like to think he is lookin down with a smile. We all die and life goes on, but the music never dies, it's forever!

One of my absolute favourite bands, loved the early stuff with Lowell George, saw them play at an American air base in the UK for the release of Chinese Work Songs and was privileged to go back stage, had an interesting chat with Richie Hayward, a really nice guy, said a brief hello to Paul Barrere and the other guys, congratulated them on a great gig, and came away with a signed CD and a couple of inscribed guitar pics from Paul Berrere and Fred Tackett. Willin was one of the first Little Feat songs I learned to play and always gets into the mix when I’m jamin with my brother’s

Paul has done a great job of stepping in as front man since Lowell's been gone. The guys have stuck together to play THEIR music. Shawn was a nice addition and then she moved on. No matter what, they have created some of the most awesome music of the last 40 years and they still grind it out, day in and day out. Still a live show worth seeing and still creating music worth listening to. I've met countless fathers at shows, with their sons and daughters, just to show them what a real band can do

What Lowell and Richie and the boys created way back when was fantastic but it in no way takes away from the Feat of today. I have seen them in many incarnations and they are always great. Basically, they are one of the origional JAM bands and continue the tradition now. For those who are offended by the girl I have three names for you - Linda, Bonnie and (of course) Emmilou. All sang with Feat and only ADDED dot the music.

Lowell George did a radio interview in 1979 that is here. He spoke of going on a "solo" tour, and as for whether the band was together or not, he had a laissez-faire attitude....Bill Payne was out playing on tour with Nicolette Larson. There was a lot of talent in LA at that time. To keep the band together, Lowell has signed a contract in 1975 to produce a solo album (I assume it was "Thanks, I'll eat it here." Little Feat was very eclectic, and fortunate that a major label took them. Lowell was playing the same small clubs that Little Feat started with. He seemed to accept it, some things work out, some don't, quoting Socrates. However, the "new" Little Feat just does not, in my opinion, have the same energy as the 1970s band. I recently bough a re-release of 5 albums on CD, and they didn't remaster it, so the vinyl albums sound better, with a few clicks and pops. I read an "authoritative" music commentator who said this was the best Rock and Roll band in America in the 1970s. I tend to agree, although the machinations of the Byrds was interesting and they made one of my favorite albums in 1968, "Sweetheart of the Rodeo". Lowell was a great songwriter, and in this radio interview with slide guitar he sings a solo song. He ad it all together, in my opinion. I would love to have talked with him, and tried to get him over the hump by which we lost him. But, he was 34, not one of those 27 year olds who OD'd in the 60s and 70s. Art Bell was born just 3 months after him, in 1945--just after the surrender of Germany. I recall testing speakers and amplifiers with Little Feat albums frequently in the 70s, and if they didn't sound good--well, the speakers didn't make it. I was in Germany in 1971 for 6 months. I really do understand why the Germans liked Little Feat--something very ephemeral....I saw a video where Lowell compared his style of slide guitar to Ry Cooder--he knew what he was doing and it was new and masterful. He was a great influence on my playing and performing.

Yes, his name was Lowell George. I'm dyslexic and prone to juxtapose. Too bad George's spirit of love and peace, politeness and the benefit of the doubt did not get through to some of his fans. I'm glad Little Feat remembered it, though, and carried that light on. Shame on you Heather. To everyone else, my apologies.

Lowell George - you have it backwards. No he was not the band, he was only the lead singer, songwriter, lead guitar player and front man. But the whole band was tight. Still, the halcyon days are always the best. Case in point; Monty Python. I still wish we could stretch those days out; they never last long enough, ever. I agree with you on Duane Allman. Another one is Chris Howe from Yes. But like Little Feat, Yes without the original singer is not quite right even though he sounds same
