@@diananutt1517 You really think fishermen in extremely poor 3rd world countries have the money to keep buying nets? It all starts by the rich countries doing their part in eradicating economic and social divisions. Yet we see the opposite happen. During the pandemic, those divisions have only become greater and an increasing speed. It could be achieved by countries working more close together but as you've seen in the last decade in the US, UK, Britain, China, Russia, ... we're doing everything we can to make the situation worse each day.

@@jakke1975 🌿🐧🐬 Some "poor" fishermen are obviously replacing nets and lines, because they are routinely cutting the old ones loose where they become traps and slow, painful, terrifying death for some unlucky sea creatures. If an I.D. at the time of purchase were put in place on this plastic, fishermen would learn to be more careful.

We humans are learning, but like all things learning takes time . . . and we've only just now really seeing how much we've grown in the last 6000+ years. In 2000 years we've gone to using animals against gladiators, to setting up vet clinics. Has to count for something.

They are. This guy has a team as well that saves seals from whatever they are entangled with. They sometimes use nets for the bigger seals and even have to run to find specific seals. Search up their KZbin channel.

Naude, Denzil, Antoine, and Wally freed roughly 1000 fur seals from entanglements last year alone, as well as helping other animals in distress, up to and including a beached whale. They survive entirely on donations and the proceeds from their social media. I'd encourage anyone who enjoys watching this sort of thing to subscribe to Ocean Conservation Namibia's channel - they post a new video daily. Also, if you're able, they do accept donations and you can see exactly where the money goes (i.e. keeping four guys rescuing seals full time).

It is Ocean Concervation Namibia, OCN for short. They have rescue videos each day. There are só many entanglements from rubbish in the sea, sometimes 20+ resques a day! They are all volunteers that do this every day.
