March Favorites & a man from my past calls...so let's talk. Makeup, Skincare, and home decor...and a special painting are the subjects. I take you for a trip through my favorite park that is 3 minutes from where I live. I love it there...it feels likes home to me. So many people and dogs...and lessons of beauty, hardship, and joy surround me. I also share how an old friend called me and why we are meeting up tomorrow. Let me know below if you have ever had an old friend call and how did it turn out!

The Story of the Painting Grace was based on stories that were handed down to me and more detailed information can be found on different websites. Many facts are not consistent whether Mr. Charles Wilden was a " good" man. He was paid $5 to sign away his right to the picture and painting. He could have had thousands... but never came forward. Although it is not disputed he was a peddler who sold shoe scrapers some question where the original picture was taken. To me, all this is deeply irrelevant. The painting represents what we all see reflected back to us. We will see and feel what we need to in the painting. I see Mr. Wilden as a good hard working man going door to door selling show scrapers in the winter of 1918. Those that would later discredit him after claiming " they tried to track him down to give him money" make me skeptical of their claims that he was " difficult and drank too much". I love this painting because of the emotion it stirs and the inspiration it gives me to always remember to be grateful and hopeful...and I am not alone in my sorrow, fear, gratitude, and hope for a better day for me, my family, and my fellow human beings.

A great guy I had a major crush on in high school (we even went on one date - I invited him to a Sadie Hawkins dance) went our separate ways at graduation. (He never asked me out after the dance, because we were different religions (1964)! I lived in England and had left our home town for over 3 decades - and I became separated from my ex, and moved back to the USA. We had seen each other only twice in 40 years at HS reunions. My mother passed so I flew back to my home town - and HE SHOWED UP at her funeral to pay his respects and to see me! I was bowled over because I always assumed he didn’t care. He was divorced for 6 months and I was going through my divorce. I flew back to Massachusetts. He was in Ohio. He contacted my brother to get my address and began writing to me. Then he called regularly and it was like we’d never been apart. End of story: He asked me to marry him - that was 17 years ago and I have come full-circle, back to my hometown but with him! Life is so full of surprises - you just never know what’s around the corner! Susan, I 💕you and hope you have a wonderful meeting with your old friend tomorrow!! 🥰🙋‍♀️👏🙏💞

The sign - Family is Everything.... As someone who does not have family, when I see a sign like that, I do not feel bad. And as someone who has not had a close relationship for various reasons with my family it is kind of an issue of "You don't miss what you never had" . I think family would be great but I cannot imagine what it is actually like as I have not had that experience with a biological family,.. I do agree with the saying "You make your own family," I have had numerous people in my life that I do consider family and cherish that.

I agree, Cupcake...we make our own families. Many people have blood relatives whom they have very little in common with and very little connection or attachment to. Their friends more than fill in the gaps that family leave. I really believe that we can chose our friends, but not our family.

I did not receive a call, but I made a call. I stumbled upon my best friend from high school via Facebook. She was struggling with a second round of metastatic breast cancer. We connected and were able to spend good time together. I am so very fortunate to have rediscovered her and spend time with her before she passed away. I am so excited for your visit with Hal. Yes, I had a friend like you have. He lived 2,000 mi away and was my husband's friend. He would call and check on us and make us laugh and smile and send flowers for years after my husband passed. I was to see him last July and was so excited. Unfortunately, he suddenly became ill and passed away. He was the best and we so appreciated him. Love every moment with every chance you have with your friend. ❤

Susan, when I was 15 yrs. old I was so in love with this older guy. He was 18 and I thought I couldn't survive if we couldn't be together. Of course my parents would never allow such a thing. We'd sneak and talk on the phone every chance we got. I'd see him every day at school, mostly passing in the hall while going to class. He graduated and I never seen him again. 47 yrs. later he found me on face book. It was so good to hear from him. The first time we talked on the phone, my heart was beating just as fast as it did years ago, lol We had such a sweet conversation. He calls me at least once a month to check on me. It's so exciting every time I hear his voice. It is good to connect with old friends or boyfriends. I hope you have a lovely time catching up with your old friend. Have fun!

I get those calls or Facebook friend requests often. But just this week I missed a phone call while I was in another part of the house. When I checked voicemail, it was the voice of my best friend from high school (and beyond) saying, "I'm in Myrtle Beach, driving down 17, and I'm filled with memories of you and our beach vacations. Wish you were here." I called her right back and we had a lovely talk.

If I received a phone call from a old friend my life would be moving in a better direction. Today I thought of a old friend that I haven't spoke to in 16 years. I've tried several times with no responses. It hurts and brings 😢. But I said again to myself I'm a good person. And moved on. In addition to you question about family is everything 🙏. Those pajama pants are beautiful. I don't care that we cry at silly things, or beautiful things or just a song, a picture or a warm breeze. Those tears lets us know we are alive and that beauty is still in our world. What a beautiful story about the old man. I think when we see old things like that, it comforts us and the familiarity is a security to us. I saw a little ceramic Christmas angel in an antique store a while back that looked like it was made in the fifties. It brought such a feeling of home and my mama that I bought it. It was really nothing but a little piece of junk seemingly but I was so much more in it. Have a beautiful time with your old friend. Those friends are gold.

This was so touching. Wow!! I cry easy too. I was thinking as you were telling the story of the painting. I was thinking of this year , how tuff but wow such wonderful Blessing also. God opened doors from my ex ( who life’s out of town) I was able ( we worked it out) to move back into my house. What a blessing, so much to do, not much money , but fun and joy with what I can do. Does a call from a family member fit. I lost my uncle back in February and his death has reunited 2 of my cousins. And it's the best feeling in the world. We hadn't talked since we buried my dad 30 years ago. We grew up together and lost touch. Never from the mind or the heart. We spent 6 hours on a 3 way call one night last week and we caught up. I told them it was a gift from my uncle in heaven. If we hadn't come together to honor him, it probably wouldn't have happened. I'm suppose to be tough as nails. I'm from NYC..My son calls me toughy. Can you imagine? But guess what? I cry easy. Lol. I'm always crying with you. You have a wonderful time meeting your old friend. It will be like time stood still. My mother had a print of Grace hanging in her dining room. It meant so much to her and she would comment about it whenever I was at her house. It's so funny that you found one. I don't know what happened to my mom's copy. I really liked the music you played in this video. Desi is a charmer.

A couple of years back, one of my dear friends from High School sent me a friend request on facebook and I was delighted! We started spending some time together and it was like time had never passed, even though it had been probably 25 years since we had actually seen each other! I’m so glad you found those slacks. They do look wonderful on you. You look fantastic with a belt around your waist. That’s nice that you’re going to meet with an old friend. I hope he gives you all the slides. I love the scent of lilacs. I wish I could find a perfume that smells like a real lilac. My Mother used to mix different perfumes together. Women she worked with would love how she smelled. They always wanted to know what she was wearing. She couldn’t tell them because she would just mix things. Love the wall pockets. My favorite tree is the bare trees in winter. You see the beauty inside you don't see any other time. I do enjoyed the strong branches, the soft lackey finger of the trees today in tour video. I have that oil painting unframed and in my closet. It’s a Reproduction, My grandfather, a master painter whose paintings are all over the world , gave it to me. I think he painted in the 60’s but I never knew the story. Wow! I love your appreciation of art, your eye for art and beauty not to mention that eye for Desi. I just saw your video of you first getting Desi. So touching I cried. Something else, Susan, I don’t always read all your viewers comments, but I am so impressed by them. I liked your observation on the sign that read.. Family is Everything. It would be nice if we could all feel that were true but unfortunately that isn't always the case. I love my family members but they are not my everything simply because often times the one's you love the most can hurt you the most. Eric Enstrm's photo of Charles Wilden praying over his bread is a reminder of how " an attitude of Gratitude" can change everything. It is still relevant today. I try to maintain this attitude especially when I am trying to feel sorry for myself. The perfume oils... LOVE THEM ! I enjoy perfumes and oils. That is my simple pleasure ... along with the rose hip seed oil and carrot seed oil you have inspired me to try !!! :) Love the flowered embordered curtains and the scenery there up North. p.s. I understand how nice it is to hear from old friends... mine is my first true love... and we always stayed friends although we lost touch for a long time.. last year I reconnected with him on the phone and it felt just like we fell back to the way things were.. we just talk and talk and laugh and he will always be special in my heart. I make a point of only talking to him on the phone because he has someone in his life so I respect that boundary. He will stay so dear in my heart forever. Susan you made me cry. That painting of the peddler praying over his bread and soup hung in my Grandma's living room until she passed at the age of 97. Ever since I was a very young child I would stare at that painting for the longest time almost every time I was at my Grandma's. So excited for you to see your dear friend. I am sure this meeting will bring so much joy. You always touch my heart Susan in a new way. I loved every second with you. I received a call from an old friend about 20 years ago. My dearest friend in high school was born with cystic fibrosis. We met in the tenth grade. I spent my high school and college years hanging out with her. I was the maid of honor in her wedding. When she was in the hospital I would visit her or call to check on her. We were pretty close. When I had my first child she stopped calling me. A few years later she needed help with something and she contacted me. She told me she was jealous that I could have children and she could not. That she was jealous of every woman with kids. That was why she wasn’t my friend anymore. I told her that it was ok and I was sorry for what she was going through. She lived into her 40’s, which is miraculous. We never spoke again, but I am glad she came back into my life and I received the gift of understanding. Love you... Laura 🦋❤️

That painting of the old man praying over the loaf of bread hung in our local bakery for as long as I can remember. I used to go to the bakery with my mother when I was just a child and I remember that painting hanging up on the wall. I knew exactly what it was when you described it.
