I realized this week learning the meaning of these 5 words, changed my life. Today I want to share them with you. I also hope you will share your 5 words with me too. I take you on a road trip with me to the backroads of Michigan. We visit old farmhouses, windmills, bridges, dirt roads, a few ducks, and a whole lot of deep history and stories waiting to be told. This was a very emotional journey for me and a tough video to film because I wanted to do the old landmark's true justice. The voice you hear is of my good friend Hal who was on the trip with me. I watched him take so many pictures and he added so much to this special day. Thank you Hal so much.
No matter what our age I think it's always a good idea to pick out 5 special words that tell ourselves and others who we grew up to be. For me, I thought I knew the definition of my 5 words, but I did not. I hope we get to talk about this and I hope we keep talking about it...I hope we never stop moving forward and helping each other along the way.
Thank you so much for being here today...it means the world to me.
I love you to the moon and back....always,
Susan & Desi

I never remember anyone in my life EVER said they were happy or glad to see me...So. I always made sure that my grandchildren heard that from me each and every time I saw them, even if for just a minute.....One day I heard my little granddaughter tell my little dog "I happy to see you"....So I was so happy to hear that....Now they are grown and I still tell them .....Even on the phone I will say I am happy to hear you.....I believe everyone should feel important to somebody, once in a while.....

TODAY, I would use a sentence. Help lift up the forgotten I took out a friend since we met in 1980. We were career woman until our life's journey took down different paths. My friend Mary is in a nursing home now for 5 years. She is in low place and I stepped up and took her to thrift stores and out to eat. I bought her some new clothes as she looked disheveled. My do I feel good I stepped out of myself to treat her. And forget about my burdens. It worked out great.

The actual 5 words my mother told me were "Don't depend on a man." Those words have helped create the independent person I have become. However, within that growth are my favorite words, persistence, perception, planning, passion, principles, all a foundation for achieving a good life.

I loved the memory that your friend shared about being on a train as a child with soldiers during the Korean war. My dad was a soldier during that war and several years ago I ask him to tell me about his military service and he talked about riding the train as a soldier to basic training and different places. Your friends words brought back my dad's words to me.

I would choose your words, but add one. Commitment! If I had committed my life to the Lord with all my heart, so many choices would have been different. I didn’t know him! I feared him and wanted to lead a moral life, and when I got to know him, I slid back by the world. There comes a time when you see he is your life! He is your hope! He is everything you need. Commitment to him is your shield! It is a path to wisdom. His word is a song, revelations, truth, packed with history, love, experiences, and a future! I want to hear him, so I listen, I talk to him, and I study his word. It is his voice that comes through and his Spirit that fills. I am his, and he is mine! Thank you Susan for a wonderful message!

You live in such a beautiful area. Mine were six words. I worked at a TV station in Lexington,KY and a famous psychic was in the building to be a guest on a show. I was a secretary and walked by in the the hall and he stopped me and told me "you are having a baby girl". I had just suspected I was pregnant and yep it was a baby girl and he told me the weight! !! lol So that was kind of interesting. I loved this. Have a blessed week, Susan. xox, Melissa

Susan, it was brought to my attention after watching this video, what a treasure trove you have and are leaving to your son and grandchildren. All your videos are just ripe with who you are and what your heart is made from and by whom. A minister once said that “tell your children everything about your childhood and life”, as that is how they will know who they are! When your time here on earth is done, what a gift you are leaving to them by all of your KZbin videos that you have made over the years that you have been doing them. I am blessed to have found you and to “know” you in such a personal way! I love you, my dear!

You know....I think you were born to do this!! The wisdom that you have garnered through it all is coming out just when women like myself need it. When I saw the American flag and the bench that was dedicated, I began to choke up. Life is going by so fast and I want to slow it down somehow because I have finally gotten to the age that EVERYTHING makes a difference to me. I understand choices now and consequences. The windmill broken but still listlessly turning in the wind, the chair onced used but then forgotten, no longer useful, now left behind. All of the memories left behind in the abandoned home. Your words and thoughts really help me and challenge me. I want to make a difference in peoples lives and live the life that I have left with all of the gusto that I can muster! Love you Songbird! The waters flowing in the creek were mesmerizing. Have a wonderful week. XO

Your backroads footage brought back so many memories for me. Our mother was a painter and photographer and would often take us kids along with her when scouting out the backroads of our town in search of old abandoned farmhouses and barns to photograph as inspiration for her paintings. Sometimes we would make a day of it and pack a lunch of egg salad and peanut butter and jelly sandwiches to eat as she would sit and sketch the country scenes to later paint. She would have enjoyed this video. I have five words that I have unfortunately just put into practice in the past few years. It's amazing how it can change the nature of a relationship ... Let someone else be right (even if they're not :) . Love to you and that darling little Desi. Laurie

Thought provoking. At nearly 67, I guess I don’t know me well enough for 5 words of definition. I have one...forgiveness. I must learn to accept the forgiveness of Jesus and forgive myself. That one word trips me up all of the time. I fail to achieve even just one day where I can say, Yeah, I did this one whole day correctly. But His mercies are new each morning, and I try again.

The five words that have impacted my life most are confidence, strength, integrity, independence, and self-worth. My Aunt instilled those words in me as young girl and they have carried me through my life, especially in the toughest of times. Lovely video, Susan! Hugs to you and Desi. 💕

That was a great video! For me...it’s the same 1 word applied 5 ways that has been very impactful to how I live my life. The word is ‘choices’. When I realized that in every moment, in every situation, I have a choice to make and that choice can impact me and impact others so I need to choose wisely, thoughtfully, and purposefully, not just be reactionary. As a result, more often than not I can extend grace to others and/or to myself. These are the 5 areas of choices: ...my thoughts ...my beliefs ...my words ...my actions ...my responses to everything Blessings to you! 😊

Susan, you are so special. You see the world in so much more depth and detail, far beyond what it appears on the surface. To many, an abandoned building is just dry weathered wood. You see history, a life once lived by pioneers, a life- giving windmill, a bench holding people! You have such a special way of seeing the world. Thank you for sharing and bringing your vision and wisdom to us, and helping us live fuller, richer lives.

My words are “not everyone has to like you”. I know I’m a people pleaser. It’s tough for me not to be. I worried for a long time if someone didn’t like me. I was in my forties when the thought popped in my head that not everyone has to like you. It was freeing. I also didn’t have to like everyone. I was taught to always get along with all. Many times people hurt me when I was growing up. Girls in school who I know now weren’t worth my time. People I worked with who I knew didn’t care for me. I would get a feeling they were just tolerating me. I didn’t do anything to them. I was always nice to everyone. I just suddenly realized I don’t have to like them. I would be pleasant enough but I didn’t have to talk to them. I wouldn’t waste my time worrying whether they liked me. My girlfriend would worry if someone didn’t like her. I asked her if they were important in her life. Of course she said no & I said then why care what they think? Those words helped her. Your video was beautiful. Seeing all the backroads & what was on them. Beautiful photography. Love you,Lucy

A'ho, 👘 Fortunately I just found you while doing a kitchen project . The ether sent you to me. You live in a magnificent area. I lived in the U.P. in a town called Houghton-Hancock on Lake Superior. The Portage River runs between the two towns. Of course I lived there in the 1970s so now they're probably cities. Thank you for the wonderful journey. I'm continuing to follow your journey about forgiveness as you travel across WHITES Bridge.

I watched your video with tears rolling down my cheeks, you talk so emotionally & you get me to think about my life & how great full I am but the self pity still emerges when I’m not feeling well especially when I’m in pain etc. There’s so much to learn from your beautiful videos & just to watch the scenery you film makes me want to go out & do the same. In the mean time I’ll wait in eagerness for your next video. 😊

For me, forgiveness is either immediate or in cases of deep down in the soul wounds; a process. But it's always a choice. I heard someone say we can choose to 'be bitter or be better.' I choose to be better. And what I've discovered is the root of unforgiveness is self-centered. Forgiveness I've found, is centered. 🌻

The five words for me are. Follow the yellow brick road. As a child I would have a troubling dream over and over. Dreamed about a hyway, it was new and black with a shiny white stripe down the middle. I would be walking on it. Then it would start breaking up like pieces of a puzzle, floating away. I would be trying to grab the pieces to put them back together. At 41 I found JESUS and he showed me the golden path. I have followed the yellow brick road ever Sence. Been to many country's and am now 84years old this year, living in the middle east. Helping others to find Jesus and his road home. Happy, contented, comitment, faith, last of all JOY are my 5 words now. God bless all of you dear sisters.

Susan, my mom and dad divorced when I was a little child. Mom always told me he didn't want children but she thought once she had me maybe he'd change his mind. He didn't. Later after years went by, he invited my family to his and my stepmom's house. Note: I had been there when I was 16. Long story. Anyway, while we were there my dad told me it was true he didn't want children. He didn't like the messy baby years but after that he loved having a daughter. He told me he was so proud of the woman I had become. And that he loved me very much. We planned our first Thanksgiving together for them to come to our house. But the week before, I received a call from my stepmom that my dad had died of a massive heart attack. I was so glad that I had forgiven him and we had a chance to talk.

When you were talking about the lady that could not believe that her husband was dead , brought me back to the time when my brother was murdered. I was only 23 years old and I had to bury him on my own. My mother could not handle it and except it. At the time I chose to do a closed coffin because he was shot in the head. The day of the showing , which was just a gathering of friends and family to show respect to my parents , she could not handle it. She was emotionally distraught and kept saying that her son was not dead . So I had decided to get together with the funeral director to let her see her son before he was buried. It was against my better judgment but I could not let my mother go through her life thinking that maybe her son was somewhere out there and we never buried him. I’m not sure if he gave her any closure or not but me being so young , I think I did the best I could. I don’t think she ever got over his death. I hope though my decisions made it a little bit easier for her in her life. She’s gone now but I think about her every single day. She’s with my brother now and I hope she’s happy !

Hi Susan:) I read most all the comments and didn’t have 5 words I could come up with on the spot but recently I truly found the meaning of grateful and blessed. I always go by what ur Mother said and I mentioned something almost exact in another video of yours in the comments-putting ur troubles and blessings in a piles along with others-and I always choose mine:). You son saying “I’m so happy to see you” was priceless 😊🤗❤️🙏
