5 thrift stores in one day and the find of the year. Come thrifting and decorating with me and let's find out what works. You don't need a lot of money to decorate the rooms of your home or apartment...but it helps to know what to look for and how much things are worth. Thank you to my dear friend Barb who showed me some new shops!!!
Thank you for your prayers for Jan last week. Thank you from the bottom of my heart for your kindness and understanding. Jan was my sister-in-law. I met her in 1971 and married her brother in 1973. I have been close to their family all my life. I will talk more about what happened next week...but Jan didn't make it. She was only 62. She was loved by everybody who knew her. I take comfort in my son's father John is here again from Tennessee and that is such a blessing to my son and the entire family. You have met Jan's brother John in a video I did last year and I will link it below. A beautiful family. My heart goes out to them. There were five and now there are three.
I hope you enjoy this video. It was made with great love and appreciation for you being here when I am hurting so much. When I am up or when I am down, you love always shines through. You are an inspiration to me every week. We are all just walking each other home.
Please know how much we love you!
Love you to the moon and back,
xxoo Susan & The Desi

I'm still trying to process all this. I know you've heard of Six Degrees of Separation. I to was saying prayers and grieving the loss of Jan Martin Mullins last week. Jan and I were both members of the Grandparents Raising Grandchildren support group on FB. My heart breaks for you, her family and especially little Conner. 😢💔. I lived and worked in Kingsport TN. I still live just a few minutes away, still raising my granddaughter alone. It was our biggest fears that we would pass before our grandchildren were grown. My heart breaks for everyone. Our group will continue to keep Conner and family in thoughts and prayers and if we can help in any way please let me know. From the first time I watched one of your videos I felt a connection. I did not know exactly what but just that there was a connection in some way. With time I came to recognize other names in your videos that made that connection feel even more real. The last names Buchanan and Mullins are very common here. In fact I am of Mullins descent. It is truly a small world and God holds us all in his hands. Love and hugs to all. Jan will be so missed. And we will remain in prayer for little Conner. These children are out world. ❤🤗

RE: your Weller Pottery basket/bowl, your friend is so right: you were meant to bring it to your home. So many simply view these as "things" to occupy a space; but you see how these items bring beauty and joy into your home. I also love the fact that you embrace color; and lots of it! 🌺

My mother who is long gone now once said to me, “ Marilyn, you think I color my hair because I’m vain don’t you?” I said, no mom I do not think that at all. She said, I color my hair, because when I look in the mirror, I don’t want to see an old lady. If I see an old lady looking back at me, I’m a start acting like an old lady and I definitely don’t want that. Now that I’m older, I completely understand what she was saying. She was always so young at heart.

I'll never understand why some people come to a KZbin channel knowing the content and then get offended by something in it and just dump all over the light it brings. There's enough negativity in the world as it is. Leave your grumpiness at home, please. We like the beauty this channel brings.

I'm your age, born in 55'. Back in my 40's I was talking w/my mom on the phone, as we often did. I remember the conversation so well, remember I was cleaning my linen closet when she called. We shared our day w/each other. Somehow we got on the topic of getting older. I told her I'm reminded of my age when I walk past the mirror. But inside, I'm really just the girl I used to be-- w/the same feelings I had as a girl. My mom listened, paused before speaking, then said, "I know, Karen, I feel that way too." Then I understood, most feel that way. I treasure the girl I once was, but the reality is, she is still here, inside of me. I get much comfort knowing that. Thank you for sharing. I do my best to share with my three grown children, pieces of me w/them. Love them so. ❤❤❤

Sue...I so enjoy your videos. You are so inspiring to me. I know what it is to lose someone you love...I lost my husband many years ago..we were newlyweds and his passing was the worst thing that has ever happened to me. He was a Police Officer and he was killed in the line of duty. The pain of losing him never diminishes, you just try to live you life as best as you can. ...I so look forward to listening to your positive views about life and about making the best of our lives...know that you are so admired.

First I want to say that this summer, as a caregiver in a complicated situation.. I have enjoyed my gardening and I have enjoyed finding myself again and taking care of myself. Being a caregiver to someone on Hospice certainly reground’s you and makes you recognize that WE, ourselves are most important and only WE can ensure that we live long enough to live our fullest. Now, I want to say that I totally get the “Good at being young.” My son has a quote he always says that is just so simple yet eternal.. “Live Life.” Whether it be good or bad. Live it. Do not let Life live you just because we age. We do not loose our dreams, our hopes, our joys and our passions. We control all of those things and how deep we bury them as we age.. forgetting them. We would never forget a dear loved one so why would we forget ourselves? Why would we allow ourselves to be packed away and forgotten? So, Yes, I totally “Get” what Max meant and how you feel. I am sorry for your loss. But OH the memories you have!! Cherish those and the Blessing to have had someone so special in your life. I know you do and will! I always watch your videos when I feel I need for a calmness in my day or centered in my life. Thank you for your bright smile, your optimism in a world where that has become a rarity. So my word for you today is this… continue to “Live Life!” as you do!!

Oh sweetheart.... I will most certainly be back next Saturday and everyone after! You make my week, you make my heart smile, you make me cry...yes almost every week! However i wouldn't miss any of it❣️ How i miss my younger summer day's, weekends folled with getting up really early, taking my mom out to breakfast and hitting every uard sale our legs would take us to! My absolute favorite thing's ever! I remember one year we purchased an entire rattan living room set....it was $100!!!! Well...we eere just so excited to find it we forgot we walked and didn't have a car to get it home! Well......we carried each piece home, going back for another one.... laughing so very hard we peed ourselves a bit 😂 My God it was wonderful, one of my best memories of our time together. One whete i wasn't a young child but a woman and she wasn't a mom but a friend of mine. My mom passed two years ago just this past August 4th. I miss her so... even though we definitely had our rough time's. Im just greatful i was able to live with her her last three years and care for her after a stroke. She was always terrified of Drs and hospital...so i made it ok for her to pass quietly in her favorite chair in her home 💕 Love you Sussn and Dessi to!

The grieving process is a messy business. You can jump all over the emotions and back again. Sadness, bargaining, anger etc until you finally land in a place of acceptance. It has it's own timetable. Be gentle with yourself! Time helps. You have some great thrift stores there! It's hard to find good ones in Florida. I'm so happy you found such great finds! I lost my best friend months ago to Alzheimer's. The average life span is 10 years. She had to move up north to be close to her family because her husband had cancer. About a year later she passed. Many times in a good marriage that is when the spouse left behind passes. This has been my experience. Judy went to sleep one night & didn't wake up. At the end she didn't know any of us & forgot how to eat. The way she passed was a blessing and the answer to prayer. Stay strong, Little Poet. I promise it gets easier with time. Much love to you & Desi. 💜🌻

I love thrift and resale shops, but in the past few years, I downsized and decluttered into a one room studio. I have embraced my minimalist lifestyle. When I consider buying anything now, I ask myself: Do I need it, where will I put it, will I really, really use it/wear it? Yes, I still occasionally buy something I want but don’t need and I better be sure I have a place for it. LOL. Enjoy your treasured things Susan! Thanks for sharing.

I’m good at leaps of faith. I sought passions in my youth, sometimes it worked out, sometimes not what I had expectations of, and hard. I took a jump off that cliff 8 years ago, and boy did I land hard. Very very hard. But you know what? I didn’t let that stop me, from taking another risk, a leap of faith, a jump off a cliff, and I just landed in a place of all my dreams, a place that is perfect for me. I’m pushing 70, MS, and people thought the risk was too great at my age. But those were the people, that put thier heads down when they walk, never seeing the sky. I looked up, and jumped into the wild unknown. I’m good at being young. 🙏💜

I have no aches, pains, never had surgery and I don't think like an elderly person. I love your videos. I admit I don't comment much because one day I made a post about something life changing that happened to me. My parents were there for me. They did it with so much love. One of the people commenting started telling me how it wasn't my parents responsibility to step up and blah, blah, blah. The comment was me talking to you, but this person really upset me. After that, I did not want to comment again. I am over it. I love your thrifting videos. I love your house and of course, Dezi!

Hello from Sweden! 🇸🇪🇸🇪 You asked us about favorite Summer Doings... I have plenty, but one thing I really love to do, beeing good at beeing young, is to lay down in the hammock "hiding from the world" under the cherry tree and fanasize about many things....or lay in the grass watching the clouds drift by and think about what they look like An angel? A Horse? etc etc.... Another (secret) favorite of mine is to jump in puddles of water after a Warm and Silent Summer Rain... I love that and that keeps my heart young even if I am soon to be 59!!!! Have a really good Sunday everyone! 🇸🇪🇸🇪👍🏻💖🙂🌱🤗🇸🇪

I'm 73. I don't act my age. This is my last chance to do what I want without control from husbands, relatives, bosses and social mores=expectations. I'm still adding to my antique art doll collection. I'm having even more fun shopping and thrifting. No one controls my time. I don't have to slave over a stove. I can have all the pets, any pets I want. Fun and life are endless. We're pretty much alike.

I'm so sorry to hear about your friend and sister in law Jan.I guess I didn't catch in last weeks video that she had passed. It's hard when we loose loved ones, and it seems like the older we get the more loved ones we loose. And wish if there was just one day we could spend with them again. This is why I cherish every moment that my children and grandchildren come to visit me. You never know if that's the last time. I love your quote " I'm only good at being young". I will be turning 71 in the fall and I don't feel that much older, ( maybe in my bones, but not my attitude). I still enjoy life, working out in my yard, thrifting, reading and spending time with loved ones. I know people younger than me that are already planning their funerals. Not me, I want to live my life to the fullest. thank you for your wonderful and heartfelt video's. I look forward to them every weekend.

Your plant benches remind me of the handmade ones we had on my Grandparents' farm that they used to sit on to milk cows. I'd love to find some of those, but not many thrift stores in my tourist town. I found some tiny ones on Etsy (one was actually called a Milking Stool, but it was from the UK - $51.00 just for shipping). I'll keep looking! The quote from Max made me tear up. I haven't let myself feel young since my husband passed 7 years ago (except the times when I'm a goofball with my Granddaughter). I have to try to bring more of that into my life. Thank you for the words.

Dear Susan, As I get older I realize that I don’t need to justify, explain, or look for validation from anyone on what brings me joy in my home decor 🤩. I don’t have to feel inadequate because it’s not the latest trend. And finally if someone was welcome to my home and criticized my home decor then they are not my friend and maybe in the future they may not be invited again. If a simple plate that reminds you of your Italian mother and brings you joy no one has the authority to give their opinion if they like it. It’s your home, a beautiful home you have with original style and warmth. What a boring world it would be if everyone had the same style and taste 🤮. I wish you were my neighbor we can shop, drink coffee and chat. God bless you 🌻

This video was so valuable in so many ways. I’m downsizing and moving soon. I’m trying to figure out what to take and what to leave. I was getting myself more confused by the minute. After watching this, a realization came to me. I’ll keep only the things that I made a conscious decision to choose. And I’ll let go of the things that I merely “ended up with”.

I'm 68, husband 69. We both love taking 3-5 miles walks most of the week. Love it when the daylight is until close to 9pm (CST). Love the balmy flowery breezes being outside. Now, August, which is kind of adieu to Summer brings us sunset before 8pm. That's the hardest part of getting closer to Fall (which I love that Season also), is the lack of daylight. Last Winter we started walking a lot, and it makes the Winter longness more bearable in the Midwest.

Thank you Susan for your words regarding holding onto your passions, hopes and dreams, no matter what age you are. I'm slightly older than you and still feel that flame of inspiration and creativity I felt at 20. I'm about to take up art again and learn to sew my favorite fashions. Life still provides glorious moments and triumps. Your flare for decorating is marvelous! I lean toward eclectic and you have carried that off so well. It brings such interest to a room as it takes on the character of the home owner. So I say, " Put your 💖 heart and 🌺 stamp on life! " ~ Diane

You asked us to tell you something about our summer…. It’s been another working summer for me. I barely notice the changing of the seasons or even the weather. I work indoors with no windows (I’m an OR nurse) and every day is tiring and fast paced…. one day melting into the next. Last night was the best night of the whole summer. A friend is out of town for a week and gave us permission to use his pool while he’s gone. My husband and I went there late last night. We floated and watched the Perseid meteor shower. We saw a huge sweeping meteor that went cross the whole sky. It was the biggest meteor I’d ever seen - it took my breath away. I almost tear up thinking about it. Not just because of the meteor sighting, but because it was one of life’s perfect moments. I’ll never forget it.
