My baby is 10 months old now and thanks for your tips for sleeping routine I don’t know what a sleepless night is for a long time. One of the things that really has a huge impact on her sleeping cycles is the blackout room and the white noise. When I mention my baby girl sleeps from 7 pm to 7 am people say I’m very luck and an exception case. Maybe it is and gets difficult to tell (but it wasn’t like that at the beginning of course). But I’m sure also you helped me hugely. THANK YOU SOOO MUCH

Managing naps just fine, but nights became nightmare. 4 hours into night sleep he starts waking up every hour-hour and a half. 🥲 Last one at 4.15 am is almost impossible to put him back to sleep. Who is going though similar things and how are you handling it?

Your 4 month old schedule SAVED me. I had been doing the Ferber method to break sleep associations for 3 weeks (I know that was too long, but I was desperate for sleep.) Well, even in Dr. Ferber’s book, he says that you can go in at intervals all your heart desires, but if they’re in bed too long or have some other issue that isn’t sleep associations, it won’t work. At that point I understood that I didn’t really know how long my daughter needed to sleep so step 1 was using the 2 days she actually had slept through the night to determine the amount of sleep she needed. Then, I tried to understand how I was going to break that up among the day. That overwhelmed me because there’s a lot of conflicting information on wake windows/naps & it really can be different for each child. That’s why your 4 month video helped my family tremendously. I love the idea of going based off scientific want windows & setting the timer. That helped me understand how her “schedule” needed to go. This marks night #4 that she has SLEPT THROUGH THE NIGHT for 10-11 hours each night! She will be 5 months old this Wednesday, so I will be implementing this new schedule. I’m very much a type A, firstborn, also used to be an elementary school teacher & not having a schedule to go off of challenged me to say the least. Having some sort of consistent guideline to go off of , that I can share with family members or a babysitter is absolutely incredible. I feel like a regular human being again & now that she is sleeping through the night, I am, too & can serve my family in the best way. So, THANK YOU!

Hi, nice video with a fuctional knowledges. I have a 5 months old babygirl, and she sleeps like approximetly 10 hours(some times 9 sometimes11) each night without any need of night fed. I think im lucky about that. But i also think what i do daily helps too. 1st: I give her limitless love and full of smiles, im always there for her in needs and cries and, watching her every move and she knows im caring her and she is very trusting about that to me and she have no anxiety about me not taking care of her. 2nd: i feed her only moms milk since birth, (grattitude🙏🏻)which is also helping i guess. 3rd:I start night sleep routine every night at same time. including, massage with oils while singing her sleep songs, and little chitchat smiling, and when she sleeps i make sure no one makes sound at home(ım like sound police,i arrest everyone who makes noise while she sleeps like a psyhco :)) 4th: I feed her fully before night sleep,when ever she wants to stop sucking, we finish,its up to her. 5th: I make sure she burps fully. 6th:Holding on routine times but also I always watch her if she needs something different this time, what works for her may change time to time,like sleep on breast while feeding this time or she needs to have eye contact and smiles more before sleeping…etc Normally ahe used to sleep on bed, she doesnt want to sleep on my arms generally cos its very uncomfortable normally, she likes to lie on bed and sleep relaxed. About the daily sleep times, i never made a sleep time like 3.5 hours not more not less, i just let her sleep when she yawns and when she wakes she wakes:)) and she sleeps like 5 hours in the day time, (ı dont really count it but she sleeps more than 4 hours in day time)and 10 hours in the night time. Thats what work for my baby, and i think there is no standart times for all the babies… Thats my humble opininon from my experiences up to now. All the best:)

Wow! I’m more confused now 😖my baby will be 5 months on the 25th, he sleeps from 12pm right through to 6:30-7:00am. Our routine is “awake=>nappy change=>feeding=play time=nap time” We feed him every 3-3.5hrs. When he wakes at 7am, he’s down again by 7:30-7:40am and doesn’t wake up until 11-11:20am! He used to go down for his nap at 12:40 but now fights it so we let him skip it but then he doesn’t go down until 3:20-3:30pm- that’s 4hrs being awake! I know his sleeping cues and follow them but unsure now on what do, specially after you saying the morning nap should be the shortest! 😖
@littlezsleep
@littlezsleep Жыл бұрын
Hey, Igui! The morning nap should actually be the longest, but we recommend capping it to 2 hours so that your little one doesn't tank up on all their sleep at the beginning of the day and then protest/fight naps for the rest of the afternoon! We recommend following 2-2.5 hour wake windows, for a total of 3.5 hours of daytime sleep during the day, and a full 11-12 hours at night.

@littlezsleep
@littlezsleep Жыл бұрын
Sometimes little one's don't follow the wake window lengths perfectly, and that's totally okay! These are a recommended length, and sometimes your little one will be awake for slightly shorter or longer amounts. If your little one begins to experience short naps, then I would jump into the full 2-2.5 hour wake windows!

If my baby is awake for 2.5 hrs but feeds every 3 hours, how do I get 3.5 hours of naps in? I can hardly get my son to nap longer than 30-45 min and I think it's because he's hungry. Then he falls asleep while eating, I assume because he didn't nap long enough? He's a great night sleeper but daytime naps are terrible.
@littlezsleep
@littlezsleep Жыл бұрын
Hey Aubrey! The foundation of my sleep philosophy is that baby is WIDE awake for all feeds. If your little one is sleeping on feeds, they are thinking that they need to eat to sleep, and that is a factor in the short naps! If you are looking for a step by step plan to improve naps, check out my baby course! littlezsleep.com/baby

Hi Becca, I have a question : I breastfeed my 5 months old baby before putting her down for her naps. It can take a good 10-15 minutes. Does this time is included in the "awake window" time? Exemple, for 2h awake time, then after 1.75h I go in her room, change her diaper, put her in her sleep sack, close the curtains, and then I feed her. So 15 minutes later she is down in her bed (awake), for a total of 2 hours of awake time? Or does the time I breastfeed her in the dark doesn't count as "active awake time"? Thanks a lot! 🤗
@littlezsleep
@littlezsleep Жыл бұрын
Great question! For newborns (0-15 weeks of age) their wake window will include their feeding, so if your little one takes 10-15 minutes to feed, then you will want to include that as part of her wake window!

Hi,Becca! My son is now 5 and a half months, he sleeps independently with 1 or 2 night feedings- breastfeed. Since he was almost 5 months we used to have the 3 nap schedule ( 1 hour morning nap, 2 hours lunch nap and 30 min afternoon nap, morning wake time around 6-7 am and bedtime around 7-7:30 pm, the wake windows 2-2,5 h) . It was all going really well up until a few days ago when he started to resist the last nap and the last 2 days he wouldnt nap at all,no matter what i did. Yesterday he had just a 30 minutes nap in the morning and a 2 hour lunch nap . In the last 2 days the bedtime was at 6:30 pm with him beeing awake 4-5 hours before. Today he woke up at 5 am and the first 2 naps were just 30 minutes each. Is it possible that he is transitioning from 3 to 2 naps? Is it possible at this age? Because i dont know what to do, with catnapping he is having to little daytime sleep and I feel that everything we worked so hard is now gone.

Hey Meredith, if you are not seeing the signs that she needs to move schedules, you can keep your current schedule. But once she is showing signs she needs more wake time. I would jump into the 3 nap schedule. It is hard for a few days, but just remember it is what she needs to get the best sleep she can :)

@littlezsleep Жыл бұрын
Hey Jessica!! 30 minutes is the typical length of 1 sleep cycle, so what's happening is that baby is waking at 30 minutes from a sleep cycle and unable to connect to the next without help from the contact. Essentially in this situation baby believes YOU are the thing that drives her to sleep each time. If you are wanting to continue contact napping, then definitely choose what you desire as a family! If you're looking to make change and teach baby how to fall asleep independently, 5 months is a great age to sleep train! My baby is in the same situ as both of these ladies babies: goes to sleep well at night but cries for 30 minutes before falling asleep for naps only to wake up after 30 min. I find it strange that my 5 month old can connect sleep cycles at night but not for naps even though he falls asleep himself for naps 😢. If I get him and cuddle or nurse he’ll nap for longer. I wonder if I should just let him put himself down to sleep after his first sleep cycle even if that means when I put him down for a nap and he protests for 30 min, naps for 30 min, wakes up and whines for 30 min and then naps again for another 30 min … totaling 2 hours in the crib but 1 hour of sleep (obviously the time to fall asleep would go down eventually).
